My son took 3 lessons with Ahmad from All City Stick Driving School.  Ahmad made my son feel very comfortable, he was very good at explaining everything that he needed to know when behind the wheel.    He is a great instructor - very thorough, and especially on his last lesson Ahmad showed my son the route he would be taking when doing his drive test at the DMV. Don't spend a dime for unprofessional and rude instructor like Maurice. I was a beginner, and signed up for automatic driving lessons.On my first day, I was so nervous but he told me not to worry because he'll tell me what to do every step of the way. So I was like ok, I'll just listen to his instructions every step. Few minutes later, I was approaching an intersection and waited for his instruction. He yelled at me and said, "Turn left! I'm not a robot here." I'd rather pay a robot than him. I'm sure a robot would be nicer. When he yells at me, I get more nervous. Then he'd yell again and tell me to calm my nerves. How am I supposed to calm down if he keeps yelling? Seriously, he shouldn't be a teacher.2nd day. I mentioned to him that I took few driving lessons 10 years ago but since it's been a while and I never practiced driving, I totally forgot everything. When I did a mistake during our driving session, Maurice scoffed and said, "Is that what you learned from your driving school?" Rude!3rd day. I couldn't believe I endured his presence until the 3rd day. I just didn't have a choice because it's non-refundable. I got more comfortable in driving so he was calmer at this time. I thought this was going to be the best day until he asked to to pull over to the gas station. He put gas in his car. How unprofessional is that?! I pay him every minute, and that was for me to learn how to drive and not put gas in his stupid car. After gas station, we went to the bank. He left me in the car. He spent 10 minutes inside the bank! I couldn't wait for that day to be over just to get him out of my sight.I would rate this ZERO if I could. You've been warned. Read Less

Maurice is awesome! He took on the task of teaching  our THREE kids stick....I had tried, w/o success, a few years ago with our daughter, but he managed in just a few hours to teach all three kids. Not only that, he gave our boys the confidence to pass their driving tests (their previous lessons with All State had NOT achieved this). He was reliable, patient, and easy to work with. Yesterday I completed my 6 hours of instruction and today I drove my stick shift car to work successfully!I have been driving automatic transmission cars for 11 years but when my husband bought me a manual I thought I would NEVER learn. Maurice said he was 100% positive I would learn how to do it and he was 100% CORRECT.Maurice possessed the most important aspect of anyone teaching stick shift: PATIENCE. He helped to calm me down while I was being honked at by other drivers when I stalled. He told me specific step-by-step instructions on what to do. Plus, he has a sense of humor which should be required for his field!I would definitely recommend Maurice to anyone that needs to learn stick shift. I passed my driving exam from the first time thanks to this school! I was so happy, and it's all due to Maurice's good teaching. Even after two lessons I was already able to drive stick shift,which was exactly what I needed. I was very nervous when I just started, since I had never driven before, but he helped me gain confidence in myself. The lessons would start a little late sometimes, but we still would stretch it to 2 hrs. On the third lesson we actually practiced the real rout that you have to take during your exam in the DMV on Normal st. Online for our teenager was just fine. Trying to set up appointments for the actual driving lessons was like pulling teeth. Multiple no shows and not returning calls or emails. Finally got  2 driving lessons done. Maurice showed up at he door, said "let's go" then took off. No come in, sit down, talk about the plans, etc. The only way we could tell where they were was by GPS. Maurice never said where they would drive, what they would work on, etc. Doesn't instill a lot of confidence. Set dates for the 2nd and 3rd lessons, no show on the second then showed up after rescheduling. No show on the 3rd lesson and never returned emails. We finally just said forget it. P.s. Be sure to check the Yelp shaded "not recommended reviews" at the bottom of the page, I don't know why their not recommended but they are very relevant. Read Less

I am an experienced and licensed driver but have always been interested in learning to drive stick. After only two hours with Maurice, I can say I'm proficient enough to comfortably get from A to B. He is very knowledgeable, makes you feel completely comfortable, and is very patient. Learning to drive a stick (especially with people honking behind you) can be a daunting task at first, and Maurice really does a great job keeping you calm and focused on the task at hand so you can really learn. I am now comfortable enough to order my first stick-shift car and will be taking some "refresher" lessons to brush up and practice before the car arrives. Highly recommended 5/5 for Maurice! Simple, got the job done. I was functional after 6 hours. However, it is a pricey compared to other driving schools though very few in Socal teach standard. If the course was longer by a couple to few hours, it it would be great. I would have liked more time on stop and go on hills, properly downshifting, rev matching, and maybe heel toe. There are 3 methods for starting on a hill: ridung the ckutch, e brake, and regular. Parking is actually not that simple esp on an inckine and especially if you have back up the hill to park. Also, the car would have helped to have a sticker that said "STUDENT DRIVER" in the back and on the sides. I enjoyed the stories though. That helped calm my nerves. He was right about 6 hours. 6 is enough to able to get around public roads. It might look bad, but u will get from point a to point b safe and sound. Its a good service. Its just missing some parts from making it great. For what its worth, i still recommend Maurice. 3.75 out of 5. Read Less

I never learned how to drive stick shift because there was never really a need.  During my husband's first deployment, I had a friend occasionally drive his truck for us to go get ice cream or something to keep it running well.  Once my husband left for his second deployment I didn't want to rely on someone else anymore.  I found All City Stick Driving School and decided to go for it.  Maurice was a very good instructor, very patient, and I was shifting manageably well on the first day.  My the second lesson I was driving much more comfortably and we were working on hills.  By the third and final lesson I was doing great and knew that I just needed to keep practicing to get everything right.  I would say that the lessons were good to get the very very basics down.   I am an experienced driver so I didn't really need lessons on how to drive so I can only speak to those that are simply looking to add the skill of driving standard.  I don't know how new drivers are worked with.  As others have noted in other reviews the professionalism isn't the highest, but I think Maurice's patience when teaching me outweighed that.  He is the only one in the area that offers lessons on stick shift probably because it takes a special level of patience and clarity with instructions to be successful.  He was very good humored which really helped when I was nervous or stalling out with cars honking behind me.  I know I still have a ways to go before I am as confident with standard cars as I am with automatics, but this fit my needs.  I was very satisfied with my results and would recommend this to anyone who has already been driving and doesn't have someone to teach them standard. These guys also operate as A AAAfordable Driving School on 33rd St. We signed up with All City but had our teenager was given online lessons from A AAAfordable, strange. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! We paid for the entire online course AND the driving lessons. Our teenager finished his online course 30 days ago and he (Maurice) hasn't done a thing since. I reached him twice by phone and he promised to send the certificate of completion the next day, never did. He said he would email practice exams, never did. He has NEVER returned a phone call, an email or even a note left on the business door. Sign on door says mainly 9-5 but they were closed every time. Driving is a big thing for teenagers and this guy hasn't shown an ounce of caring. Our teenager spent THIRTY hours on lessons then has been waiting another thirty days to take his DMV exam. FOR NOTHING. Now he'll have to repeat everything.Read Less

After moving from Europe I had to get my American license and that required going through the same process as any beginner. Maurice ( instructor and owner @ all city stick) made it very simple and smooth. I got my license really fast, I've never thought that it would be so easy. Not only he assisted me in my driving practice but he also took care of all the paper work, all I had to do was to show up . Maurice was a great teacher.  I needed a new car and wanted a manual.  My husband tried to teach me to drive and in my experience nobody should attempt this.  I was driving within 15 minutes of being in the car with him and completly confident after all 3 lessons.  I think everyone should learn to drive stick and he is the best teacher!  If I could learn ANYONE can! My manslave grew up in Kaneohe, HI (where I guess people aren't really required to drive)and REALLY REALLY needed his license because heck to the NO I'm not driving back and forth to Camp Pendleton no mo!Since I had duty today I couldn't take him to the road test we had scheduled. Luckily a fellow shipmate who recently got his license recommended All City Stick Driving School.I called Maurice and the price for taking a road test was more than reasonable. My manslave told me that Maurice went above and beyond by practicing him extra (which wasn't included in the price).And best of all...HE PASSED! When my husband asked me to learn stick, I figured I'd take classes to humor him but never really "get" it. After 6 hours with Maurice, we're looking at buying a standard. I have to say Maurice's best trait is his patience. Always calm and professional. He put up with me with a smile, and that's sometimes very hard to do.
