I am 33 y.o. and i have never driven before. My husband tried to teach me but it didn`t work out. I was very frightened and couldn`t handled being mentoring from somebody beloved :) We hired 4 Lakes Driving School`s instuctor, Bob, and he helped me to get rid of my fear of driving, made me to drive on such busy city`s streets where I never thought I would be able to drive, he was patient, respectful and very nice to me, supporting in all ways, and after just 3 2-hours` lessons I passed my test and got the licence with just 2 point down! No Ratings because they force you to take classes only to make more money. I took one class with them and the instructor keeps telling you to book the class and ask only for her when I reschedule, she kept repeating that throughout the driving time. She also told that I will need more than 7 sessions to be ready, but I couldn't agree as I already have driving experience. I wanted to take the class so that I can be perfectly ready for the test. I joined a different school and it all went well and I passed the road test in just 3 hours and they charge you less as well. Read Less

Have a really great time driving with 4lakes! Before driving with 4lakes, I didn't have any driving experience. I took several lessons with Pierre and successfully passed the road test on my first time!  He is a wonderful guy, very humorous and knows well how to teach. I came from a foreign country and the rules are very different from those in us. Pierre explains everything clearly and is very patient. Besides, I use their car to take the road test. They will pick you up and help do a little practice before the test. After passing the test, they will also wait for you at DMV and drive you home. The management & specifically instructor Vicky is rude and condescending. One instructor, who no longer works for the company, taught her class incorrectly and not according to the Four Lakes rules. Somehow this became my child's problem and a lecture ensued about proper teaching. I was then lectured that I need to make sure my child knew what she was doing while driving. Thanks Captain Obvious. Before enrolling with these guys, I was terrified of driving because I come from a foreign land where driving is pretty much 'survival of the fittest.' In the USA, driving comes with so many rules and it's just impossible to keep commuting here without a car. That's when I decided to enroll with Four Lakes. I enrolled as an adult driver with 14 one-and-half hours lessons (initially 10 lessons, I later added 4) on the road, no classroom lessons. Yes, they are expensive, the only drawback I can think of with 4Lakes. I scheduled pretty much all lessons, timings, payments etc. over the phone. They have different people who answer their calls, most of them appear to be their own driving instructors, but not all. My very first call was with a young lady who forgot that I wanted a single instructor for all my lessons and so I ended up being scheduled with three. Other than that, she was very patient with the million questions I had on my first call. I rectified the several-instructors situation down to two instructors, Crystal and Pierre. Unlike what I read in other reviews on Yelp, both these instructors came to my driveway from Day 1 and I never had a situation where they didn't show up. Both my instructors had different personalities and ways of training me with driving, but they were both wonderful, gradually instilling me the confidence I needed in my "drivo-phobia". They are clearly trained to handle nervous drivers like me. Both of them thought me how to drive all over Madison and surrounding cities/towns, having me drive in various speeds etc. In other words, they didn't just prepare me to pass the road test but prepared me to be an effective driver in real world situations. And of course, I did pass my road test thanks to them and my "drivo-phobia" no longer exists. For a fee, they do let you use their car for the road test and if you pass the test, they wait at the DMV till all your paperwork is done to take you back home. Before taking the actual road test, the instructor schedules a mock test simulating the real road test and gives you a score. My instructor was spot-on in both the simulation and final score with the actual road test. My final verdict is that these guys are everything they claim to be. I'm a happy camper. Just couple of things: 1) they are expensive but their fees are all displayed on the website for you to decide. 2) Make sure you're clear on your first call if you want one instructor or you're okay with several. Jot down the times of every lesson and the names of your instructor. It's only when I asked for the names did I find out that I was initially scheduled for 3. Thanks Four Lakes! Read Less

The lessons were fine-- we went over what would be on the test, etc. Each lesson was only an hour even though I paid for hour and a half lessons. The first lesson, we spent 30 minutes getting gas. The second, the instructor was 30 minutes late, yet we ended at the scheduled time. Considering each lesson costs $80 for an hour and half, this really is not okay. Read Less

I was quite apprehensive given the other recent reviews. I had driven before but that was like 2 years back in CA and I did not take n number of lessons from them. All I did was to sign up for a 2 hour class 5 days before my DMV test. Yes, the instructor comes to your place and will park his car, but he WILL NOT give you a call to let you know he is there (i told them this is strange but dunno why they do it) but they are on time. Given the fact that I had driven quite some time back he made sure I went through all the maneuvers and gave me some good feedback - and he finished off everything within the 2 hours. I also registered with these guys for the actual DMV test. They picked me up an hour before, for some practice and last minute tips and it all worked out well. Ask for Drew, he's the best!! As an adult learner, I learned how to drive within a few months (15 lessons or so at 2 hrs/lesson) due to Drew's great teaching skill. I passed my driving test the first time. He was patient and articulated my trouble areas. He's been working there for 3 years and has been driving since he was 14 or so. Since I don't have a car to practice on, I practiced with a friend a couple of times but the bulk of my learning/ driving was mainly from my lessons with Drew.
