I don't normally write reviews, but my experience here provoked me to this time. As a student going through the course, it made my life miserable. First of all, the building the classroom is located in is old, water damaged and mildewed. Second, the curriculum itself is designed poorly. It wastes time, isn't as effective, and is boring. Not to mention that you are required to do numerous projects at home which is absolutely unnecessary. Going here felt more like a chore than a educational experience. My instructor wasn't very inspiring either. It was like they didn't want to be there, but who could blame them. Their customer was atrocious as well. Seven months after I successfully completed the course and it was time for me to take my tests to get licensed, they let us schedule the tests in the wrong order! Shouldn't an employee know their own company well enough to not let obvious things like this happen? After we got that mess sorted out, I passed the tests and went to get my license, but it couldn't be that easy. Apparently, I didn't complete the course even though I did seven months earlier. Someone had to have known something when we were scheduling things. Talk about uncommunicative. Since things were getting so screwed up, my mother wanted to talk to the supervisor for the customer service lady, who was on vacation. Parents, if you want a driving school that will cause you anger, frustration, and complaining from your son or daughter, this is the place! Students, if you want an unpleasant two months that will make your life a living hell, this is the place! If you don't want those things, keep a hundred foot radius from this place. Read Less

Monroe Defensive Driving School is a great program and has really helped my driving skills. You learn everything you need in a classroom and practice all those skills one on one with an instructor. The staff is kind and patient and help you feel comfortable driving. I would recommend it to all new drivers. Read Less

Its a great school and I met lots of good people here. I had the class taught by Isaac and most of my drives were with Michelle but the place is fun and they show plenty of examples of what happens if you make a mistake behind the wheel. This was a horrible experience for my teen daughter. We signed her up for this school largely because of the location and convenience to our home, but the instructor traumatized her so much that she refused to return to class for day 2. In fact, it is now two years since our aborted attempt to teach her to drive, and she is STILL afraid to get behind the wheel. The first day, the instructors show lots of "crash" videos to try to "scare" the teens into being careful. Unfortunately, the instructor added additional YouTube videos of spectacular accidents, some of which showed fatalities of semi-trucks crushing small cars. To this day, my 18-year-old still refuses to even sit in the front seat, let alone attempt driving. Additionally, they rent space in a very old, musty building. The room has clearly had water damage and smells strongly of mold and mildew, which many people (including myself) are highly allergic to. The entire situation is extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional, and I recommend that all prospective drivers look elsewhere. They also charge significantly more than all local competitors. My one positive comment about the company is that they DID refund our tuition money. Of course, this doesn't make up for the psychological damage done to my daughter. Read Less

I am the mother of one of the students. My older son took his test for his license here also. I chose this place after reading the reviews on DDS and safe 2 go. Even though DDS is $40 more than safe 2 go, I chose DDS because they had such good reviews whereas safe 2 go receives pretty poor reviews. DDS has been awesome!!! My daughter was very nervous mainly because any type of school environment stresses her out, but Isaac (the instructor) is great. He is very personable and down to earth. He makes the kids feel comfortable and confident. Anyone reading this I strongly suggest paying the extra money and putting your kids here!!! Read Less

We've put three kids through driving school  here in Monroe and our first and third went to Defensive Driving...the same instructors were there for my youngest daughter which is a testament to their office/program.  My middle daughter when to Safe 2 Go and our experience with the owner was dismal.  Defensive Driving has newer vehicles (one of which is a Mustang that the kids enjoyed driving) the teachers are thorough and personable and the office staff is professional and friendly.  They also offer a variety of classes, DOL testing, have a software program that helps you track and schedule your drives, and have a large window of availability and flexibility within reason. This place is so difficult to deal with. All they want is more and more money. We paid for my sons course,  the schedule agent online said he had completed and passed everything. I called DMV and they didn't have his records. I called the driving school and they said the account shouldn't be saying that my son has completed everything and that their paper files say differently. So they tell me my son haS to retake a test and go to more classes and wanted $75 more dollars on top of the $590 we already paid, I asked the man if he is sure that was everything we had to do and he said yes. But what do you know,  After that was done they said he had to retake a drive and wanted another $60. And they couldn't send his file over to the DMV  until it was all finished and paid for. Not only that, the teachers here have been very rude and disrespectful to my son  they give him crap because he does not learn at the pace everyone else does. If anything they should be helping students and encouraging them instead of treating him like he isn't doing his work. If we hadn't already had paid so much money to this place we would have Just found somewhere else to go. I don't recommend this place Read Less

10 for both of my kids experiences.. Both of my sons used Defensive Drive this last year at separate locations. Both situations were good, however I felt the Everett experience provided a little more traffic experience, but both the teachers were great and the behind the wheel teachers did a good job training them on rules and now they are great drivers as well as great back seat drivers.. amazing how many little rules as a parent we forget, good refresher for me as well. They were great at doing their best to accommodate drive time that worked for us in both cases. I would recommend them.. I was a bit sticker shocked at all the market prices for this, in my day, I am old I know, behind the wheel was paid for by the school and part of our high school curriculum, which I would prefer over some things that are currently required.. other then cost and theirs is very much the going rate, I thought it was a very well taught course for both of my kids. We loved your Defensive Driving School! The coarse was very well organized and informative. My son was very complimentary of his teacher (which is not usually the case.....). He learned a lot and was appreciative of his teachers patient manner during the car rides, irregardless of how good or bad the driver was behind the wheel. As a parent, I found the evening that I spent in the classroom very interesting. I have two more children and we will be back! Read Less
