Loved it . The training is good . The challenges for riding a motorcycle gradually increase during the curse . The instructor (Vince) is there with you all the time answering all questions and guiding you with feedback to improve . Austin Moto Academy (AMA) is the real deal for a beginner. After registering for the class, I thought maybe I shouldn't attempt to get a motorcycle license. After all, I am not comfortable with this whole new experience so why even take the course. I convinced myself why not, I already paid. I stuck to it. Gradually I felt comfortable both in the in-class and riding sessions. Now to what I experienced. Read and follow the email instructions. Tom taught the in-class session and the group was split up to two riding locations (Highland Mall and Dart Bowl); I was in the Dart Bowl riding session that was taught by Tom. For both sessions, listen, listen, and listen. In-Class session, Tom was excellent! The class was setup to better comprehend the material with group discussions. During the Riding session, Tom will give you superb riding instructions, listen to his instructions and execute. Please know Tom is there to help you, encourage you and give you the support so don't be afraid. At first at many attempts and the natural feeling of failing Tom will continue to encourage so push through. Don't give up! You can do this! You're doing great!  Is what you will hear from Tom! I am glad Tom was my instructor because two days of training I can say I have a CM License. Seriously, AMA is the real deal to get your Motorcycle license and ask for Tom. Bryce in the classroom and Vince on the range.  Both were absolutely top notch trainers.  Of course this is a necessary class to get your M license, but regardless of being required, it was a fantastic initiation back into motorcycling.  Very educational from a safety perspective and confidence inspiring.  Highly recommended! This class was hugely fun and challenging. I realized how patient our instructor Bryce was when he stayed cool. Regardless of the class.  Bryce must be Angel because he taught 7-8 challenged individuals how to ride. Never once did he frown or lose it! 2 students even dropped their bikes!This class used a part of my brain that had been dormant. If I could give them ZERO stars I would. Sherry is the worst and most prejudiced instructor! Please spend your money elsewhere! This class does not teach new riders how to ride. Just finished the course today and I still am reeling from the heat. Texas is HOT! WhewI came in with some experience, so my primary concern was to eventually get a license. Nonetheless, I picked up many nifty skills and screened out few bad habits I picked up over the months. First shoutout goes to Miles Stone, who I believe is the founder/owner of Austin Moto Academy. He patiently answered the million emails I sent to him prior to the course. Thanks Miles for setting up a great academy. Our teachers are some of the most important people we meet, and in the case of motorcycles, for us, it was Tom. He taught us both in the classroom and in the riding range. Covering a bland, boring syllabus with his quick wit, he finished classroom work over an hour earlier than the deadline. But all the true learning happened in the range. Not only did Tom have decades of riding experience under his belt, but he also broke it down into digestible chunks, especially for the newer riders. I understand the course is designed well, but a lot depends on the instructor. In one sentence, he was great. Taught us everything with his lively sense of humor and his entertaining stories. Thank you, Tom. From a few others, I heard that the other instructors are great, too. I've come to deduce that this is a quality place with experienced riders. I'd recommend this place to anybody looking to get started, as well as more experienced riders who're coming in for the myriad of reasons you all may have. I did Schedule C, which I liked because the classroom part was knocked out on the first day, leaving me to focus on riding in the following days. The classroom session didn't feel like five hours at all! As for the other schedule structures, I thought it would be terrible to start riding in the first day only to fail the classroom test in the second day. The day before my class started, I skimmed an online basic motorcycle riding guide and found online Texas practice tests. In hindsight, this was a bit overkill since the class is well taught and nothing was tricky on the test. (I got a 100, and everyone in my class passed.) But I rather come in prepared to pass the test and understanding certain nuances than blindly hope for the best. I actually enjoy missing questions on the practice tests; it helps me pinpoint topics that I overlooked or misunderstood. It's not about merely passing the course; it's about building a foundation for safe riding outside of the course.I have never ridden a motorcycle before, so I came in fully expecting to get some first-time experience/practice before re-taking the course. Sometimes I felt slower than the other students (both in grasping concepts and my physical speed on the bike), sometimes my motorcycle would stop and hold back anyone who was unfortunate enough to be following me (because I continually fully let go of the clutch), sometimes I could sense an oncoming total mental block because of all the multi-tasking involved like letting go of the clutch or throttle when appropriate, deciding when to apply brakes, figuring out how much to accelerate to kick into a high gear, etc.Luckily, Vince was the most encouraging, patient teacher ever! I'm already hard on myself, especially in group settings, so I don't need someone to make me feel terrible for repeating the same habitual blunder over and over. Vince would point out my mistakes as they occurred, suggest tips specific to my erroneous tendencies, and make gestures/friendly reminders to me as I re-attempted tasks until I perfected them. He kept up a great attitude for all three days, from the early morning through the hot and humid afternoons. I might have even thought that he was retired and just giving back to his community for the sheer fun of it; he was that nice.The riding test goal is to have a score of 0. Points = errors. You're allowed to make a total of 20 points worth of mistakes, which is generous. During the entire class, I could never ride a figure eight perfectly inside a box; I'd either ride outside of the boundary lines or go so slow that I'd drop on one foot/momentarily stop. I got completely discouraged and nervous because we had to move onto learning the next task, and I kept thinking to myself, "Good grief, I can't do one of the five or so tasks we get tested on. I'm screwed!" In the end, I still couldn't complete the task perfectly, but I received only 3 points for accidentally touching a foot on the ground. With enough practice and trust in motorcycles, I feel like I can eventually crush all sorts of tasks and scenarios. Which is to say that the course isn't going to make you immediately ready for road (though legally you could immediately get onto the highway), but you'll have a good foundation. I believe the bikes are anywhere from 150cc to 250cc, which is all I wanted to learn on in order to be able to ride a bike in another country. Most places, from southeast Asia to Europe, rent out these less powerful bikes. All I wanted was a crash course in riding a basic bike when I travel, and this was the perfect opportunity. Despite the class consuming a lot of my weeekend, it was a pretty fun experience. I learned so much and the time flew by. Dwight was a great classroom instructor, as well as,  my riding instructor, Vince. They both made learning fun!! I had no interest in learning how to ride a motorcycle, so I did my practical riding the scooter. in my opinion, if you're riding the scooter, pay attention to the functions of a motorcycle!  it will do do good during the test! Since I was mainly focused with learning to ride the scooter, I didn't pay attention during the riding portion  how the motorcycle riding students manipulated  the clutch, gear shifting, throttling, etc  so the test was challenging. lucky I took time to re-read all the material and passed! ...however, if you're paying attention in class and take time to review the study material given, ya'll should do well! as for the riding portion, it was a great experience. you practice over and over and learn all the basics!  you'll defintely be ready to ride safe, and defensively in our Austin roads =) good luck! thanks austin moto academy! This was probably one of the easiest ways to get you on your way to a Motorcycle License or just having basic skills on how to operate a motorcycle. Bryce was a great classroom instructor pretty sure he's also a great riding instructor too, but my riding instructor was someone else(Tom). Tom is a great instructor and may seem a bit strict at times but that's only if your not doing the right thing (being stupid) or not paying attention. I felt like the classroom part was a bit rushed, meaning it felt like it went along quickly so for those of you slow learners I would advise preparing weeks in advance by studying the book or just taking practice tests before taking the course. I have been learning and studying since before the class so it was a breeze. Next up for the riding part of the class (my favorite) they provide the bikes for you and the helmet and gloves. THE GLOVES ARE HORRIBLE!! MY HANDS WERE UNCOMFORTABLE IN THEM BECAUSE I FELT LIKE I DIDNT HAVE A GOOD GRIP ON THE BIKE. So I bought real motorcycle gloves before the next class started (Remember the class isn't all in one day). The helmets were ok but most of them are open - faced so make sure you bring some kind of glasses (shades are fine) because you need "eye protection" or just bring your own and make sure you have shoes that cover your ankle or they'll drop you from class (they will mention this in the email) But overall Tom taught us some great basic skills but I'm telling you now. BEWARE OF THE BOX aka DEVIL'S BOX or in other words FIGURE 8. It was one of the hardest maneuvers I had to do and it's on the test. Will be taking an advanced/intermediate class here in the future! You definitely get your money's worth from this class.These people love what they do.They are there to help you get the basics to riding on the road.The Instructors are experienced and follow curriculum set by the State and MSF.The riding portion exercises were well explained and demonstrated by the Instructors.When you make mistakes (And you will) guidance is constructive, clear, and understandable.I was very tired at the end of both Rider Course days, but smiling.Over all...I think everyone in my class had an awesome experience. Taking the Basic Rider Course was a great experience.I was a longtime passenger on my dad's bike as a teen, and knew that I liked riding, so when I moved to Austin, I was thrilled that there were courses that were scheduled around my work routine(nights+weekends)! I had just a few backroads rides as an operator under my belt, and this course helped me develop good habits in a safe, informative environment.Vince is a great teacher. It's obvious how much he knows about, rides, and loves motorcycles, but he's a wonderful educator as well.This course was an excellent experience and I'm grateful for everything I learned. Right after going to the DPS for my endorsement, I pulled my bike out of storage and rode. The difference in how safe and confident I felt riding before and after this course are worlds apart. Amazing, amazing experience! Sue and Bryce were outstanding. We had Sue for the classroom portion...she is a no-nonsense bad-a**! The pace was nice and easy to follow. I hope to ride with her some day. Bryce was our riding instructor. What can I say. He was so patient, kind, and he made the whole experience a blast. I hope to take his Basic Riding Class II as soon as I get more time on my bike. Don't worry if you are a beginner. This class is made for you! I have quite a bit of riding experience since I was a kid, but did not renew my "M" license a few years back. Getting back into motorcycling, I had to take this course to get my license again, and I was annoyed. However, after taking the class with Justine, I totally learned some new skills, especially with low speed manuevering. She's hard, but "Just" (her nickname), I loved her no B.S., get it done attitude. I aced the written and riding portions, and I can safely say I would have failed if not for Justine's excellent teaching. I'd highly recommend Austin Moto Academy for your license training. I had a great experience with Austin Moto. I am a new rider wanting to build a solid foundation in safety and proper technique. My classroom sessions with Vince were informative and easy to understand. Our range coach was Just and she was very knowledgable and eager to make us understand the importance of safe riding. It was August in TX, so it was hot, but I definitely recommend picking the schedule with morning rides to beat the heat. While this class doesn't magically turn you into a good rider, it does build a solid foundation to start. I plan on taking what I learned and practicing the heck out of it before any major road riding. I definitely recommend this course and company. Read Less

This was the best class anyone could and should take.  Just was the best instructor ever.  I took their beginner motorcycle safety class with them two weeks ago.  The first day on the motorcycles was nice and sunny.  Then the second day typical Texas weather occurred and it was pouring down rain.  This did not stop the class.  There were several things that occurred but overall it taught me the most important things about riding in the rain and how your braking is effected.  The entire class passed. We were all soaking wet and cold but it was a valuable learning experience. That same day after class I went out an purchased rain and plenty of safety gear.  If you are going to take a class in Austin.  Take is with company and if you can, sign up with Just, she's the BEST.Tisha Read Less
