I took this class at a community center this summer to get some driving experience since my parents aren't around much to teach me. I already had my permit, so the classroom part was mostly things I already knew; however, it was refreshing and Mr. Hubbert was an excellent teacher. I did not have an enjoyable experience with one of my driving instructors. He was an older man and he asked me if I got practice at home and I told him I didn't. He seemed frustrated about that but the whole reason I took this class was because I needed HIM to help me. He would yell at me a lot and critiqued me harshly on every little thing I did. It was obvious he was very uncomfortable with me driving and that made me feel uncomfortable, so I didn't drive so well with him. He had me pull over to a donut shop so he could get something to eat and I went inside with him and sat down with him so that we could talk about my driving and he told me to sit at another table away from him. I was upset about that but I did anyway. We got back to the car after he ate and I asked him what I can improve on and he just said, "The stuff that we're working on right now." He was really unclear and unhelpful. After another hour or so of me nervously driving and him acting like I'm trying to kill him, we got back to the community center and he just ranted and ranted and ranted for 5 minutes straight about all the things I did wrong. I felt like I gained nothing from driving with him except that I should not be confident in myself on the road. Luckily I didn't drive with him any other days and my other instructors were very helpful and supportive. Overall, the class is great! I just got unlucky with my instructor. Read Less

I took classes as an adult, a foreigner coming to US a couple of years ago. Shannon Jr. listened carefully to my requests, and couldn't have come up with a better instructor, Shannon Sr.!!! Shannon understood that I needed some time to get used with the car, speed (I used to get dizzy while driving with 20 miles an hour) and explained to me new rules every time we met for a lesson and practicing parking in different situations almost every day. It was worthy for me the fact that I work quite close to the driving school, so Shannon could come and pick me up from work. In a month (I think) I got my driver's license and a car! I am driving every day and I am getting better every day. Shannon, thank you for starting this school and for having so much patience with your students. I wish you all the best! Read Less

Both of my children have attended Pitner Driving school. My son has a hardship license, so he could drive at 15 to and from school. His back tires hydroplaned, and he steered the car into the curb instead of into oncoming traffic. He told me "Mom, I credit Pitner Driving school for teaching me what to do when you lose control of your vehicle. I did exactly what they told me to do.". He took out a mailbox and a trashcan, but no one was hurt and there was minimal damage to his car. Highly recommend Pitner!!! Read Less

I just though I should mention here the excellent experience I had on enrolling for driving classes with Pitner Driving school. I am new to Memphis and had made phone calls to enroll for the driving classes to many other driving schools, with Pitner school I felt they were the most professional to understand my requirements and explain me the classes and time available for the driving classes. The best part was my driving instructor Keith, he was the most patient ,reasonable and knowledgable person I have met in a long time. He expalined me all the driving rules and signs and gave me good driving tips from his vast exeprience. I had driving classes for more than 2 hours each day for 3 days and I am fully happy that I have got the best I could have got for my money. Thanks a lot Pitner Driving School !! Read Less

I do not understand what mommia1971 is talking about! I have put two kids through Pitner Driving school and could not be more happy with the results! She complained about the amount of driving time? Let me tell you, I have had friends put there kids through other driving schools that used backseat observation and 'video games' as substitutes. They ended up paying more money and getting less behind the wheel instruction! I know that my kids received six hours of individual behind the wheel instruction from a licensed professional. I'm sure that her daughter did too! As for the "95% of the time listening to speakers and watching films" I have to say that is an exaggeration. My kids spent 30 hours in the classroom and 6 hours driving. I'm glad that my kids were in the classroom for 30 hours! I want them to learn about things like: the rules of the road; drunk driving laws; how to handle tailgaters; etc.... I want them to watch films like the 'Red Asphalt' that I saw as a kid. I would highly recommend that you send your kids to Pitner! I've already enrolled my 15 yr. old daughter for this spring! Read Less
