I got out of the HVAC program after 1 week. It was very clear I would likely not get the education needed for this field. Instructor let class out early every night, sat and played on his phone and gave no explanation or demonstrations to what was needed to be done and to be honest probably didn't care. Who could or would pay 12,000 dollars for that? Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Read Less

My fiance went there 2016-2017. For $12,000 He got a C+ education (one of his instructors had never even held a job and had no experience in the field he was teaching BESIDES his schooling from NCST) and their "great job placement program" did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in helping him get a job. Absolute waste of time and money. Read Less

I enjoyed my experience at New Castle School of Trades. I highly recommend any student to come if interested in learning a new trade. The instructors are always very supportive and eager to help their students. If you have any questions or concerns they will help you in any way possible. I enjoyed learning about Welding. I had zero knowledge about welding when I started. I've learned that I absolutely love it and can't wait to begin my career as a welder. Read Less

I originally started off going to a different college but because it wasn't hands on, I felt lost. So a friend mentioned NCST. Definitely something I would recommend to anyone who likes hands on experience. I decided to go through the Automotive class, my first day they handed us an engine and told us to dive in, I literally had no clue what I was doing, but six engines later I can tell you every part of it. The evening instructors really made my time here something worth while as did the entire staff. They all go above and beyond for you if you ask. Read Less

I spent 15 months in the HVAC/R program and let me tell you, it's a mixed bag. The instructors are generally pretty good, however during two quarters it seemed like we went on an awful lot of "Field Trips" which equated to free labor for people who knew people associated with the school. A few are fine I get the value of real world practical experience, however after the 6th furnace install in a 10 week period it just seems like we were getting milked for free labor. It seems like the instructors are afraid to fail people for any reason. Multiple people should have run out of hours and failed a quarter multiple times but it was glossed over. The Gen. Education teachers are a mixed bag. At the beginning of my 15 months they were ok with one being exceptional. Mr. Hill was the best math teacher I've ever had. But since then the quality dripped off badly. Mr. Unks being a prime example of a bad teacher, reading off of slides while your entire class watches videos and plays games on their phones is really pathetic. The guy is obviously just collecting a check. Career services did a whole lot of nothing for me, finding me a low paying entry level gig I didn't even end up getting. Applying myself did much better, eventually landing a job my girlfriend found for me making a great deal more than that. It seems like the school has a bad reputation locally and the further away from the Youngstown areas I looked the better opportunities came about. Did I get an education? Sure, but not 15k worth. I would not recommend anyone waste their time with NCST. Read Less

The electrical program is very good, but you will learn only as much as you want to. If you put in the effort to learn as much as possible, your opportunities are endless. I earned an associate degree in Electrical, had mechanical and welding backgrounds, and have been working in field service for 10 years, and earn GREAT money! Machine repair, PLC, and robotics are all growing fields. I am now an Applications Engineer, and have more specific technical training.Read Less
