Although some of the street safe driving instructors are helpful (1 out of the three I used), the majority of them are either completely non-effective, or outright hurtful to bettering your driving abilities. Out of the 6 hours I spent driving with street safe instructors, 2 were spent with a man who consistently passed gas without so much as a single apology and whose only comments about my driving (instructive and not) were "nice turn," and "cool." Yet another 2 hours were spent with a man who -- after taking my driver's test and failing -- I realized knew absolutely nothing about the driving test. Not only did he tell me that I had to change the way I turned the wheel or else they might not let me pass (which was proven to be 100% false by a large sum of my friends, the majority of whom had taken the test less than 2 months ago), but he also instructed me that under no circumstances was I to touch the curb. So, come test day, and when asked to parallel park, I took his advice to heart and did as much as humanly possible as to not touch the curb. This, however, landed me an inch or so onto the white lines circumscribing the appropriate area in which to park, thus causing me to immediately fail the test. Although the blame is not completely their's (I could have turned tighter, etc.) if offered information that actually happened to be correct, I would have had a significantly higher chance of passing the test. All I'm saying is that if you're paying top dollar to be taught by an institution claiming to improve your chances of passing the driver's test, the least they can afford you is information that is actually correct.
