Instruction on driving in snow: don't do it. Seriously? That sounds like neglectful instruction to me. Classroom time is wasted on multiple videos meant to scare the kids rather than useful information which should empower them to be good drivers. I'm surprised there is not better oversight of driver education courses in Oregon. Read Less

I bought a group class/lesson package which included private lessons with Penny Kayser as the teacher in Fall 2014. I have spoken to ODTI about a partial or full refund twice due to the instructor's repeated lateness, teaching of incorrect driving techniques, and problems with the manual that ODTI uses. Many people pointed out that my driving actually became worse under Penny's instruction. ODTI offers a refund of the course fee-a $50 admin fee on its website if customers are dissatisfied. I brought up this issue with ODTI before the 6 months had passed from my first lesson with Penny and again at a later date. I spoke to Taylor both times. At first, she said that she would not take any action regarding Penny and would not be issuing a refund, even though I had contacted within 6 months of my first class. Then she said that she might put something in Penny's file. She asked why I didn't complain right after the first class. I pointed out that 1) there are some group classes before the first driving lesson 2) I did not know that Penny would be consistently late, build incorrect steering techniques (IMHO), and give me advice about turning, passing, and skills that seems to be dangerous and in some cases conflicted with the advice given in the DMV manual. The ODTI manual seems irrelevant/wrong in many areas. After taking lessons with other people who teach driving professionally and some that don't, I passed the exam and obtained a driver's license. The majority of people that I have taken classes with or practiced with are better at teaching driving than Penny. ODTI won't give any refund. Read Less
