To get a driver's license, everyone has to go through a series of classes and in-car instruction. Although there are many driving schools out there, I had a great experience at Jeff's Driving School in Blue Ash and highly recommend it to others in the area.Jeff's Driving School was founded in 1999 by Jeff and Gayla Tussey, and they really have established a great program. My older siblings went to AAAA, but I knew lots of people around my age who were going to Jeff's so around age 15 and 1/2 I enrolled in their classes to see what the hype was about. The complete course is $475 and you can start one month prior to the minimum temporary license age of 15 and 1/2. Six different four-hour classes on weeknights and on Saturdays isn't a lot of fun, but I really learned a lot from the great and experienced instructors. They just don't teach future drivers about every day driving, but they also promote their teachings of "defensive driving," preparing the students for all situations. At the end of your sixth class (you can take them in any order and at your own pace), a simple written 20 or 25-question test is issued, with a minimum passing grade of 75-percent. Those who ace the test get a Jeff's t-shirt, which may or may not be an incentive to pass with flying colors. The in-car instruction is great too, as they ease you into driving, both on and off the highway, in a "new or late model car." I had a Mustang, while I've seen other newer cars such as Toyota Camrys (Camries, anyone?). They also prepare you for the maneuverability portion of the DMV driving test. They even set up cones in the parking lot on Saturdays, so anyone can stop by and practice. While much of what has been said doesn't completely distinguish Jeff's from the others schools, I truly think it stands out. Not only have the Tusseys set up a great program, they also try to get to know their students on a personal basis and work with them too. If you personally go or send your kid through Jeff's Driving School you can really tell they aren't just trying to make a few bucks, rather they truly care about their students and our nation's future drivers.
