I do not recommend this place if you do not speak Chinese well. I took about 18 classes at this school. My instructor was Mr. Wong and I thought he is a pretty nice guy. However, I think the language barrier got in the way and he got frustrated when I asked too many questions (but it was difficult to understand him...). Although he did take some bathroom breaks like some of the other reviewers said, the breaks weren't long at all and I don't hold it against him.PROs:- The lady who signs you up for the classes is very sweet and it seems like she really cared about the student and tries to help them past the test. She will call you the day before the class to remind you of your appointment- Mr. Wong will draw diagrams to clarify the conceptsCONs:- Mr. Wong spent too much time talking... there were classes when we spent about 20 minutes just talking and looking at diagrams- There are too many cars in Queens and the roads you will practice on is much wider than the roads on the actual test. I was unable to past my exam both times in Queens (this school is only able to do road tests in Queens), so I took classes in Brooklyn and took the test again in Staten Island. Go. To. Staten. Island. The roads are much wider and I personally thought the test sites are easier than the ones in Queens.- This school is more expensive than other Chinese schools (I shopped around a bit when I decided to change schools)- If you are scheduled to have a class with Mr. Wong right before the test, he will let you drive to the test site, but he takes about 30 minutes out of your class time. So, the class on the day of the exam is really just for a quick review. - Mr. Wong accidentally ended one of my classes 20 minutes earlier than he should have and did not give me extra time on my next class- If Mr. Wong teaches you to swerve when you are driving, do NOT do it on the test. He told me to drive closer to the sidewalk if there are no parked cars and to drive away from the parked cars. This is practical in real life, but once again, do NOT do that on the test. He got frustrated at me when he asked me to do this and I forgot, but if you do this on the test, the proctor will give you points for not driving straight - I had not realized that I was very tense and rigid when I'm driving until I changed schools, but I guess it was very obvious when I was taking the test. Other instructors will help you calm down and make sure you don't appear as nervous as you areThis review is from the experience of someone who does not speak Chinese well. It is possible that Mr. Wong is a better instructor if he is able to teach in his native language. Go here if it is convenient for you, but I also recommend taking classes at another school. Passed my driving test after failing once (using a different school) with Joe. While Joe has the demeanor of a typical asian dad (quiet with random loud outbursts), he is also very helpful in pointing out your mistakes. He is also good at describing what you should be seeing, etc. BTW, I would recommend this school for someone who understands the basics of driving already and needs more practice. I passed my road test today, and I really appreciate all the instructions from Mr.Joe. He is extremely helpful, and even earlier on the test day, he kept providing useful info both for the road test and for other general road rules. Here is my driving background for your information: I bought a 5-lesson(1.5 hour per lesson) package including everything and later, I had an additional lesson before the road test day. The front desk lady asked me whether I am timid to a instructor speaking very loud and quick but he is pretty good at teaching. I said as long as I can learn, I do not care how demanding a instructor is. So the lady recommended Mr.Joe to me. I had all my lessons with him. Here is my study method: I scheduled driving lessons every week. After every driving class, I would write down the tips and notes which Joe told me. Sometimes I referred back to the driving manual to make sure my notes is correct. Sometimes I checked Youtube to get an idea from experienced drivers. Since I do not have a car, I asked my friends for help. I had two times intensive driving with my friends in a very busy road. Remember that with a learner permit, the supervisor must be age 21 or older who has a valid license. You'd better bring learner's permit with you. Practices on a busy road is really good training your psychological quality. Be prepared that there would be a lot of people beeping, as I experienced.About the test on the Fresh Meadows: parallel parking, left turn, right turn, pull over and then U-turn. I lost 10 points because in a two way lane, I drove in the middle. So do not do that. For left turn, you have to wait until it is safe to turn. (Be patient if there is a car approaching)I selected this school because of Yelp Review, feel grateful for all the reviewers. Read Less

I drive all the time and feel perfectly at ease. This driving school, Mr. Wong, deserve ALL the credit. This review is long overdue but to this day, every time I'm sitting in traffic with the impatient animals trying to get into the Holland, when I drive for 3-4 hour road trips, when I'm able to give a friend a lift or while taking myself home after a long day (from a remote area where public transportation is not feasible or timely,) I feel absolutely indebted to the lessons I took here. Let me start from the beginning. I first took Driver's Ed as a teen and could not ever get the hang of driving. Of course youth trumped everything back then and as a result I took to the road when I wasn't ready and got into a minor accident. Feeling foolish and freaked, I banned myself from getting in the driver's seat. That lasted about 12 years.I realized how many benefits would be gained by learning to drive so I signed up for classes at a place recommended to me by a co-worker. Only problem was it ended up being too far and I ended up forfeiting the rest of the classes in my package.I began auditioning driving instructors near my neighborhood. I  needed to do this because just like any other one on one encounter (doctor, dentist, hair stylist, etc..) you have to see eye to eye with this person; you're paying good money and you will be seeing this person repeatedly, you don't want to be locked into a 10 lesson package and not get exactly what you're looking for. One instructor kept barking directions at me, one kept commenting on how experienced I was and how nervous I must feel the whole time and then I found my match: Mr. Wong.  I DON'T care what the other reviewers say; he gave me tips, always gave direction and clarification and when it became necessary, (because sometimes it will need further explanation,) he would pull out a paper and pen and draw what he meant!!! I used those notes in between lessons, that's how I learn best, repetition, asking questions and going over the lessons over and over.  He was patient, he was persistent in making sure his message to me was absolutely clear. I'll be clear, there was a language barrier. I speak predominantly English whereas English is his second language but if you make yourself clear and speak up, you will get the most out of your lesson because he is the best teacher I ever had. A excellent teacher will make himself understood regardless of language.I took as many lessons as I needed, there was never an issue booking him. He is scheduled with people, back to back and sometimes he is supposed to have a day off and he still gets scheduled people. Maybe there is a wait for the first appointment i honestly don't remember) but I took him 2x a week, I booked the car for the road test and I booked 2 highway classes. I was sad to graduate and also  the secretary was so sweet!!Don't search anywhere else. Book Mr. Wong, communicate your questions & concerns, whatever, he is an invaluable resource.Lastly, the lessons may begin a bit late sometimes because he is leaving straight from his last appointment to you but YOU GET YOUR FULL TIME. In a city where we are always chasing after the next appointment, I can definitely let that slide because the service and results were exceptional.I am a DRIVER because of this school, ultimately that's all that matters!!!! This school was amazing! I loved the secretary Alice because she was so nice and helpful. She was able to schedule my road test as soon as possible and called to remind me of it. I bought the 5 session package, which was the best price I've seen among driving schools in Manhattan and Queens. I only took 1 session with Morris and 3 sessions with Joe and I PASSED! Joe is amazing! He is so patient and teaches you exactly what you need to pass. He made me feel confident and he never gave up on my weaknesses. We just kept practicing my parking over and over until I got it. He has the best methods for driving and was always on time. I highly recommend this school and the instructor JOE. They were all so supportive and encouraging. I still can't believe I passed after 4 sessions. THANKS AGAIN JOE! -Hiba A. Read Less

I first heard about this driving school from some friends. I had no real experience before coming to this school/first time driver. I practiced driving in my dad's car maybe one or twice a year. My first visit at the school was a little awkward. It was a bit difficult for me since I did not speak mandarin. The lady DOES have an accent but its not so bad where you cant understand her. I would just asks twice to make sure you are on the same page and confirm dates. Since I procrastinated to last minute to get my license, I was looking for more of a fast track course. She was willing to help me figure out what dates I was able to take since Joe had a busy schedule. My advice is to give yourself a lot of time before your test date because you may not get the dates you desire. She also will call you the day before to remind you of your lesson. So I picked Joe since he was recommended to me. He has a very technical teaching style and he does give you some tips here and there. What I've noticed is, some of those tips such as parallel parking only work for his car. When I tried them in my family car, i wasn't as successful because the car was longer/bigger. He will also give you tips on what to watch out for during your road test. He was overall a good teacher. He was strict at times but he never ever yelled at me or got angry when I made a mistake. He was also never really late to my lesson and waited for me once when I was 10 min late. I also appreciate that before my road test, he texted me to remind me of the time.I took 10 classes (which really was 5 since you take 2 lessons back to back ) and the safety video certificate for $270.  I also used his car to take the road test. And I passed :-). Read Less

I had experience with another driving school before this (though I still wasn't good enough since I'm planning to be the first one in my family to drive thus I don't own a car to practice constantly). I took 10 classes here (5 classes really, 90 mins long each session). I chose instructor Joe. He has an accent yes, but I did not mind at all. However, I wasn't expecting him to yell at me each time I did something wrong, small mistakes. Plus, there were 2 or 3 sessions where Joe arrived late. Joe was not friendly towards me, and did not give me advice on areas to work on more. Basically spent ~200 for 10 classes and 60 for the car rental for no reason. Still on the hunt for a good and affordable driving school. One good thing, the receptionist was very sweet! Read Less

My friend recommended me to this place so I checked it out on yelp and decided to sign up. One of the previous reviews says that Mr. Wong was easy to communicate with in English so I decided to request for him as my instructor mainly because I'm Thai and I don't understand Cantonese or Mandarin at all.He was a really nice guy, very caring and patient. He was also really encouraging. I failed my first road test mostly because I didn't had enough practice and because I was really nervous and often do bad under pressure. On the day of the second road test, I was a little more confident and Mr.Wong let me drive to the test site and made me do some parallel parking and a couple of u-turns along the way so I passed! That day I went with 2 other students and we all passed so I would highly recommend this school and Mr.Wong himself. Read Less

Thank you Yelp! I was a bit hesitant about going to Ten Ten even after all the reviews; but let me tell you, these reviews aren't sugar coating anything. Prior Experience with Driving:None but I've often sat next to the driver's seat in the family car so I was already familiar with the general rules of traffic. Details:10 lessons for  $180. There are other packages to include more lessons, the 5 hour licensing course, and a car rental for driver's test. ($200+) I booked 20 lessons (2 lessons per appointment for 90 minutes) because I already had the 5 hour licensing course. My family wouldn't let me touch the car so I wanted as much practice as possible before my test. I had Mr. Wong as my instructor.  Driving Lesson Experience: With no previous experience behind the wheel, I was very anxious during my first lesson. In fact, Mr. Wong told me several times to loosen my grip on the wheel so he could help control it. I was taught on quiet streets with little traffic. IN fact, I saw another driving school practice in the same neighborhood (Murray Hill). Important Points:1. Cash/Check only. NO credit/debit cards. If you're looking for a bank, there's a ton along Main Street. (If you can't pay the entire bill upfront, you can make a deposit after the first class and pay the rest the next time.)2. They will call you the day before to remind you about your appointment. 3. Bring a notebook! Although Mr. Wong wrote down notes for me at the end, I ended up bringing my own notebook to jot down any tips/tricks to review by myself. Read Less

I read the reviews on Yelp and decided to go try Ten Ten for a first time driving lesson package, the 10 lesson one with 2 road tests and the mandatory 5-hour safety video for $268. The front desk woman was exactly as the review said. Her English was heavily accented and hard to understand. Thankfully I spoke Chinese so I was able to talk to her without any problems. She put me down for my first two lessons and everything seemed great. I didn't mind that my first driving lesson was two weeks away. Then as the day of my first lesson draw closer, the front desk woman called me to cancel my appointment. My next "first lesson" was to be a month away. That was when I started getting angry.Long story shortened, they continuously reschedule lessons due to Mr. Wong being a busy overscheduled teacher with too many students. I was switched to Joe, who was just as fine a teacher I found. Because of all the rescheduling, my road test zoomed closer with me having only taken two lessons. Finally I confronted the front desk lady (I will not talk about how a new woman was hired and there was miscommunication about my lesson dates with the original front desk lady) and scheduled the rest of my lessons (8 lessons) in the span of 2 weeks (Mon, Tues, Mon, Tues). I took my road test on the next Monday, knowing I will fail, and did fail. It was a waste of my money for the package that only resulted in a rush driving course and also resulted in my having to spend more money buying individual lesson to hope to pass my second road test, included in the original package I bought. Overall, I was dissatisfied with Ten Ten. They move my dates around continuously, rush my lessons, and wasted my money and are getting more of my money for their poor service. I feel bad that great teachers like Joe (more scientific, precise, and to-the-point teacher) and Mr. Wong (more descriptive, humorous teacher) are wasted here with the office's poor management. It was a bit hesitating going to this school since it was located in a little office on the 2nd floor.  But that isn't important to me, all I needed was a great instructor who would teach and help you improve your driving.  Initially, I asked for a different instructor but the secretary told me he doesn't work here and she gave me two names and Mr. Wong rang a bell in my head since I did some research before going.Luckily for me, Mr. Wong was also in the office at the time on his lunch break so I got acquainted with him a bit before he left to teach.  I then picked my package (10 lessons for $260 + two road exams, $240 if you have a video certificate already.)My 1st day with Mr. Wong, he let me drive right away to get a sense of my driving since I told him I have experience driving before.  During lessons he drew very detailed diagrams of the road to help you understand what to do under different circumstances.  My biggest weakness was my turns, which I told him about and he helped me turn the correct way.  It used to be really shaky, as mention on my previous road test results printout. On the road test day, I had two lessons in the morning before the exam which helped a lot.  It let me warm up and practice to get my kinks out.  I went with two other girls who both went with me.  During the wait I met my old instructor which was a bit awkward as first but we chit chat for a bit and he was cool about me going to Ten Ten Driving School.  I went with two other girls to take a road exam, both of those girls passed and it was the first time for one of them.  Being a guy, that would do collateral damage to my Ego if I failed lol.But I passed over two weeks ago after failing twice with another instructor.More about Mr. Wong:- He drives a Toyota Corolla-  Very patience and genuine man, he will teach you everything you need to know.-  His English is limited but I was able to understand fully and got the meaning.  I don't speak Chinese at all, I speak Vietnamese so take it from me.- Give you great tips on the Road exam.I highly recommend him, I was happy to pass and sad at the same time to say goodbye.

Terrible driving school, my instructor was not patience. Mr. Wong is nothing like the other reviewers have described. Granted I am a terrible driver, but i am paying for a service and I expected more. Like other reviewers have mentioned my instructor liked to come late to my lesson. The worst part is that my instructor did not even teach me how to parallel park before my road test. ***Save your money and invest in a better driving school. Read Less

Read Less

I had to get a new 5-hour class certificate, so I searched for other driving schools and found Ten Ten Driving School. He was always on time and very nice. He knew what he was talking about and gave good driving tips. He even explained things for real driving (after you have your license). He speaks chinese and english. I highly recommend him. Thanks to him, I took my road test today, and passed! :) Read Less
