After having gone through a traumatic experience with another driving school to fail my first test, I decided to give it another shot with a new school. Joel was assigned as my instructor and he is the best teacher I could have gotten. He is friendgly, patient, punctual, understanding and excellent teacher. Joel deserves a gold medal. The administrative team is also excellent and always responsive. Did I mention the school PICKS you up and DROPS you off anywhere you want below 23rd st? It's incredible. Never took a course here- this review is based solely on customer service, particularly the woman who answers the phones. I called to inquire and schedule just the car rental for the road test and a 60 minute lesson which is advertised in the "our services" section on the website and priced individually. According to the woman I needed to buy a package for $245 to get the road test packed (car rental, 90 min lesson, road test apt) I did not need the apt, I already scheduled it myself and I only need a 1 hr lesson and the car. This isn't offered. Please do not have false advertising and please train your staff to be more professional in answering legitimate questions regarding your services. Read Less

I had a great experience with this driving school! They were very professional and made the whole process extremely seamless. It was easy to schedule my lessons and road test, and they were very accommodating of any changes in schedule.My driving instructor was Joel and he was great, especially for a beginner driver (I had never driven before these lessons). Had a wonderful experience with this driving school from beginning to end.  They made the process of booking the lessons, courses and test seamless and were very helpful in accommodating in what worked for me. Never never come to this place for any course. I took the safety class there on June 10th. A very old man gave the course, and I could hardly even hear him talking sitting in the second row of the classroom (maybe shouldn't been called as a classroom actually). What's worse, the company is extra slow and arrogant at dealing with potential problem you may encounter, so I get my certificate after even two weeks' time and with lots of efforts and time spent arguing with their staff. Overall extremely unpleasant experience. I would give a zero star for them if there's an option. Read Less

This is a well organized driving school. Made it very easy for me to get my US driving license by purchasing a combined 5hr classroom lesson and 2hr lesson before test - I could already drive from UK. Joel was a great instructor. Having not driven for many years, I signed up for some refresher lessons with Professional Driving School of the Americas and would not hesitate at all to recommend them.  My instructor Joel was absolutely terrific! He provided all the guidance I needed and yet also let me have as much control as I could handle. Joel can certainly help driving students of all levels.He also always arrived promptly for our lessons and was able to accommodate my busy schedule by giving lessons on Saturdays. Professional Driving School is absolutely incredible. That Manny could teach my daughter to drive well enough to pass her road test on her first try is close to a miracle given how badly she drove at the beginning and how adverse she was to even learning how to drive (I made her do it though because I didn't want her to end up like me -- taking lessons as an adult when it is even harder to learn.) From everything my daughter said, Manny was patient, calm and encouraging and knew really how to teach her. And those who work in the office are helpful, friendly and accommodating too. I would recommend them to any one. (Note, I too took driving lessons with them almost nine years ago and had an equally great experience. This Driving school is good. They are pretty strict if you are sick on the day of a lesson. The 5 hour classroom lesson on driving is quite an experience in torture, but I didn't expect much. The school is great at reminding you of important dates, very responsive and kind. Joel is a great driving instructor. He accommodated my schedule and was very professional. We focused on my weak points and he had some good advice for passing the test. He wasn't my favorite or calmest instructor but he taught me a lot about driving in NYC. I came to Professional Driving School of the Americas after having failed the road test with another school, and registered for the 10 hour package with the pre-licensing course.I had the pre-licensing course with Mr. Cohen, who tried to keep things interesting through the long session. The driving school I went to previously just used a bunch of videos for instruction, whereas here Mr. Cohen actually talks you through it while answering questions along the way. He definitely kept my attention better than the instructional videos I had to watch.I was paired up with two instructors, Chris and Steve, for the 10 hour package. Both were really great at pointing out flaws in my driving ability and gave me important tips for real-world driving. Chris took me out on the highway to get me comfortable with highway driving even though it isn't required on the test. Unlike other instructors that I have been with, they were more concerned with helping me be a safe driver out in the real world rather than just scraping a pass on the test. They also pick you up at your home for the lessons!I had Chris on the test day itself and he helped me get familiar with the area surrounding the test site. He also administered a mock test to point out some last minute things to fix before the actual test, and it was incredibly helpful in calming my nerves. I ended up passing the behind-the-wheel test very comfortably!I was so impressed with the experience that I came back for lessons in stick shift and was paired up with Chris again. Needless to say, he helped me pick it up in no time. He was great at distilling relevant information to make the process easy to grasp and acclimatized me to the various road conditions in Manhattan. Also ask him about his quirky stick shift challenges and you will see his commitment to helping you learn :)The administrative staff was also great to interact with and managed to fit me in with all my scheduling constraints.The whole experience I had at Professional Driving School was fantastic. I highly recommend this driving school. The prices are fair and you should take advantage of the packages, which includes the lessons (depending on how many you want), the five-hour class, road test appointment, and car rental for the test. I like how you can be picked up and dropped off anywhere in the city. Although the lessons are mainly held around Stuyvesant town, you can change the location to a different part of the city. Most of my lessons were held uptown, which I felt was much better because it wasn't that busy, and it was more convenient since my college was nearby. It's crazy learning how to drive in the city but it's a great challenge that you should take.The staff was very friendly and I had no problems scheduling all my lessons, whether I had to reschedule for certain reasons or change instructors upon my request. I signed up for the 10 hour package with Chris and I learned so much from him. He was an awesome instructor, who was calm and patient, and he tells you what to expect for the road test. I strongly recommend anyone to take Chris as their instructor. Each lesson was fun, I got to know Chris well, and I loved bugging him all the time. I had some driving experience abroad and needed a refresher course to get an American driving license. I took a five hour package with Jerry who is an excellent instructor. He prepared me for the road test which I passed the first time I took it. He explained me all the technicalities of driving in NYC and helped me to get rid of bad driving habits. His attitude was highly professional and he found an approach corresponding to my needs. I also took two hours with Noel who is an excellent instructor too. I wanted to get a NY license (already have Australian) and needed a company that could provide the 5 hour pre-licensing video. Had called 2 other companies who were pathetic (""oh we do not offer classes unless we get a minimum of 10 people), however I called the Professional Driving School and they offered a plethora of classes during the week and on the weekend, every week. I took the class and found out they also provide a package that provides 1.5 hours of driver training (aimed at those os us with experience), their driving school car and an experienced instructor. Thank you Teddy, you were amazing. He provided me with tips on reverse parking, where the actual exam would take place, and most importantly, calmed my nerves. I passed first go. I took my road test today and I passed on my first attempt! The extra lesson and simulation road test before the actual test was very helpful. Not to mention it helps to be in a SUV in this winter weather. Gerry is an AMAZING instructor! Learning to drive in the city is challenging but has its benefits as I was able to learn a lot from from all the difficult situations I encountered being in the city. I would class myself as nervous driver, but Gerry helped me feel confident and relaxed getting behind the wheel. He is very patient and calm at giving instructions. Overall, I had a positive experience with the driving school. The office staff are all very courteous and professional to deal with. The pickups and drop-offs are a huge plus for me since I work full time and I was able to schedule lessons during my lunch hour. I would definitely go back for more advanced lessons later on. TERRIBLE!!! I did the 10-hour class package. The instructor, Berchel, did not prepare me for the test at all. He constantly acted like he didn't care, checking his phone every five minutes, even taking phone calls during the lesson. Constantly led me into streets where we had to stand in traffic. He was nonchalant and kept telling me ""fine, fine, you're ready"" so I thought I was in good shape and didn't complain. When I finally took the road test, it turned out my driving was completely subpar - I failed it miserably. When I complained, the manager was unhelpful and rude. I feel thoroughly scammed. Can't speak for the other instructors, but I was extremely dissatisfied with Berchel and with the management's accountability. DO NOT USE!!! Read Less

I took both my driver's license and motorcycle license driving test the same day and Jerry, my teacher, was very professional and prepared me for every little detail and made the experience very pleasant. I am in my mid-30's and never drove a car; needless to say, the thought of being dumped in the middle of Manhattan for your first lesson, with no experience, is enough to deter most people getting started, so I was very apprehensive on my first day. I had Noel as my instructor, and looking back on it now, I am still surprised how fast he got me comfortable behind the wheel (and helped me gain enough confidence to pass my test the first time around). I had 15 lessons with him, and that was just enough to get me primed to have me drive us on the freeway to Long Island where the road test took place. Some people complain about their packages unnecessarily including picking up and dropping off, but I found it invaluable not having to lug myself up to 23'rd street in the middle of a work day, up to 4 times a week. My only complaint would be that I had a lot of rescheduling, some at pretty short notice. I had a lot of calls from their staff, and some confusion, but it ended up being sorted out pretty smoothly. I think it was around 40 days from the 5 hour class (which is hilarious) until my road test. I can highly recommend Noel, especially if you are a new driver like me. I bought a 10-lesson package from this school. I have never ever driven before. The first lesson was nerve-racking and stressful especially the first 15 to 20 minutes of the time. I couldn’t imagine myself steering around the city where it was too crowded for me. I decided beginners like me have the same kind of awkward experience as mine. My instructor is one kind of a ‘genius’. Easing up my nerves was his first concern. He was very calm and patient , saying things in a manner where I got relaxed and receptive. Once he felt I was comfortable, he would start giving me some helpful and effective instructions for my turns and stuff. Next thing I knew, I was getting the car parallel-parked. At the start, it was tough as I thought but this instructor made parallel parking so easy. The three-point-turn was simple for me. The office (by the way, the staff are all nice and professional) saved 90 minutes from my package for me to use on the day of the test-my final practice. It would have been uncertain for the road test if I didn’t have them as my driving school. With a special mention to Ray, he is a ‘mastermind’. So, you folks who wish to get your license with straightforwardness, this driving school is for you.Read Less

I was a Vespa novice and Jerry was my instructor. Calm, patient, clear, encouraging without making you feel you ""had it"" which made you try harder. The school is excellent and was money well spent.
