Had to take the Road Test in the US because I am holder of a European drivers licence. I booked their Road Test Package that includes 90 mins of practice prior to the actual test. I can highly recommend it even if you think you know how to drive. They will point out all the things u need to do during the actual test (like a VERY emphasized look over your shoulder, or count at the Stop sign etc). It helps to know how to pass the test! My experience with drivetrain was great. I have attended the 5 hours pretty licensing course and although I already have a driver license from Europe since 10 years the course was not boring and I would say was actually entertaining. Learned lots of new things. I had also the road test with them, I rented the car for the road test and booked a 90 minutes lesson to be done immediately before the test. All went well. I took the 5 hours class and the individual driving lessons with the Drivetrain Driving School. The location of the school for the 5 hours class is in the center of Manhattan, and can be easily accessed by several metro lines. I took about 5 individual driving lessons with Aubrey. Aubrey picked up me from my apartment in Manhattan, which saves me a lot of time. Aubrey is always on time, and is very patient on explaining me the rules, and correcting me the mistakes I made. I also rent the car for the road test, and did an individual driving lesson in the area of the road test, which helps me get familiar with the road test area. I had my class at 9 am. My instructor Peter arrived at 10 am. Late 1 h. When I tried to call to school and figure out why he is 1 hour late, Aubrey said it's ok to be late 1 h cause it's New York. Also added if I don't like something just get your money back and that's it . When I had my road test a couple weeks later, I broke some detail when tried to adjust mirrors ( actually it's not even clear if I broke it or it was already damaged! ) , so Peter said I have to pay 95$ for that. I said ok. He texted to Aubrey and eventually they said I have to pay in cash. After road test , Peter brought me to ATM and was waiting for me to withdraw money. When in a couple hours I called to school to ask about receipt ( cause I thought it s normal to send a receipt at least by email) Aubrey said he will give me receipt after they receive the broken detail. I said I need it now because I actually paid. I also said it's illegal to take cash and don't even send an emails with the receipt. He said I should come by office and they will give me my money back, and he added that with my personality I will not go far! And it's all only because I asked a receipt!! By the way I didn't pass my test. I got 85 points. Completely failed.  Late 1 h for the class. Get cash in a car with no receipt. Insulting on the phone. Yelling at you when you ask your receipt.... this is my experience with the school. Better stay away from this school . Read Less

I've been driving for 17 years in Europe and needed to get a NY license. Had just 3 lessons with Aubrey and passed the test easily with the first try. He is very professional and helped me to get rid all the bad habits I have developed over the years and adapt to the NYC driving laws, which is very important if you want to pass the test. It would have been impossible otherwise. Paid $315 bucks and got Peter as my trainer. Turned up 15mins late in a 1999 merc. benz. left indicator light on the inside panel wasn't working. Overall an encouraging trainer and covered most parts on the test. Somehow at the beginning of the test the car would not start as practiced (this is not a buttoned started car, key started, two turns, once for elec., second for engine, 2nd turn did not start engine). most horrible experience i've had from any business across any industry. first there was no one to open the door to the school. then the instructor Aubrey explained the phones were down. i came with my young son and was told it would be okay because he was going to end the class early. after watching a few videos and listening to him talk while my son sat quietly at the table, he proceeded to tell me that i had to leave. no explanation other than my child  playing with his toy car was (disruptive or distracting) he switched terms while telling us to leave and allowing another student to also tell me to get out...now, i'm sure the judgemental folks of the internet will roast me for bringing my little one to class but a mother trying  to find time to get her license deserves as much respect as anyone else. and of course, i  wasn't thrilled to have my little one in a boring drivers ed class. the problem is that this instructor, Aubrey said it was fine and then because he couldn't handle the sight of a child decided to demoralize me, a mother, and throw us out and allow others to chastise me as well. the pain and suffering i was caused by this experience will not go un- addressed by the law...please if you are mother or sympathize in any way with mothers don't patronize this business. The service here is terrible! I've been trying to purchase a driving lesson package here for about 3 days already. I came into their office around 1pm on a Saturday, prior to even going I looked up their business to make sure they would be open that day, they were. When I arrived, the office was vacant. I then called the number on their website to have someone tell me "No one was in the office right now" I then asked when would be a good time to go in and purchase some lessons the man told me weekdays from 9-5. I came in today(Tuesday) around  2pm and asked the woman at the front desk how I would be able to go about purchasing a package, the woman said she is not the one who handles the purchase of packages but if I take a seat someone can help me. Five minutes later she calls me up to her desk to hand me a post-it note with the number I called previously saying I can purchase a package if I call the number. I called the number and explained to the man that I would like to purchase a driving lesson package and he responds with "okay can I call you back? I have to take care of something, give me thirty minutes" this is ridiculous, I won't even attempt to buy driving lessons here anymore. Read Less

Terrible service!! Actually non existent! I arrived at 10.25am for my 5 hour class, and the receptionist told me that they hadn't arrived yet. So I waited, along with another person until 10.40 am and called their number to find out where they were. The lady on the other end of the phone told me that the class had been cancelled and that I was late! I told her that I'd been there since 10.25, and she lied and said she was there. The receptionist assured me that no one was there. The DriveTrain representative then back tracked and just said: no one was scheduled for today, the class was cancelled (I was there along with another lady who had been waiting since 10am). To cut a long story short (too late, I guess) they were AWFUL. Rude, unapologetic and unprofessional. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. There are better, more honest, and less expensive options. Price: very competitive compared to other schools in  Manhattan.Instructor: super friendly & professional.Me: I am foreigner with 18 years of having a driving license from Poland. Drove in the States for 1 year everyday, after that rented a car about twice a year for the last 10 years.Finally after 12 years in the States I decided to do a driving license.After passing the exam and taking  the 5 hours info class I needed a car for one hour practicing and taking me to the test.After searching the web for the cheapest and most convent school I found "Drive Train Driving School" The rates were pretty moderate on their website. Before booking anything I called the school, spoke with the owner and he explained how everything worked and what i exactly needed to take. He said I needed to buy  1.5 hour driving class, which was preparing me to the exam,  I could practice a bit and get use to the car. ($75)And I needed  the car for the test  ($100).  I paid online and called back to confirm my payment and  the date of the exam.The trainer came to pick me up on time, actually he was before time. He was very friendly and professional. He definitely knows his job well.He told me exactly how the exam will look. WE practiced parallel parking and 3 way u-turn. I had a bit problem with parallel parking and he said it can be a problem. And I have to admit I did not do it well on the test, but still passed it.Overall I had a great experience and I would definitely recommend this company to everyone who needs to do their driving license. It was the reasonable price for lessons that drew me in and it's Aubrey that keeps me coming back. I just began driving with him a few weeks ago and he is the best instructor I've had. And I've dealt with several (just this summer alone). His expertise with driving and his control over the wheel blows my mind. (And yes, there has been several situations where he has had to take control of the wheel, so I know!) He points out faults in my driving that no other instructor has yet. Plus, he never loses his cool and is just a really nice guy. I love the convenience of online payments and pick up/drop off at my apt. Drivetrain Driving School is easily the best driving school in NYC.Before coming to Drivetrain I had very little driving experience, having only driven with family on and off for almost two years. Aubrey of Drivetrain was very accommodating to my needs, as I was moving to Virginia for work, and I needed to obtain my license within 1.5 months of beginning my lessons with them. Not only was he able to schedule me a road test as soon as possible, but was able to help me get my driving to where it needed to be. Aubrey was able to pinpoint all of my bad habits, and give me the mindset I needed to fix it all up.His co-worker Peter, was whom took over my lessons after a few weeks, and Peter was an amazing instructor.
