I used Big Red Bell Driving School in Ithaca, for my teenage son. The instructor Art was amazing. He was very patient, and kind. The customer service was wonderful! Highly recommend!

Having lessons with them definitely made me more confident and I passed the road test in first try. Highly recommend the Big Reg Bell Driving School! Read Less

Do NOT go there. He will yell and scream at you when you don't know how to do something. He's yelled and screamed at me even swearing. It's not worth $60.

They're usually really busy. I called Learn Well Driving School instead and got my lessons there. Instructors were really nice. Another good option to think about.

Never received a call back for a week. Called again and then received a voice message claiming they couldn't understand my cell phone number because it was broken up and that I didn't repeat (though this was not true, I specifically remember repeating my number the first time I called), so it "wasn't their personal fault," according to them (implying it was my fault). Then they said that they were completely booked and could take on no new students at this time--seems highly unlikely given the two preceding reviews. Anyway, you can try calling them, and I wish you the best of luck, though I am not too hopeful. Wholly unprofessional and very bad at running a business.Read Less

The service is subpar. Presenting themselves as the only 'premier, profressional driving instruction' in the area, they're in the office for only two days a week. They're inconsistent in answering their phones and somehow only know to call back when money is owed. The price is ridiculous (at $60 per lesson, which is an hour long), and better yet, if you were to be late or forgot the lesson arrangement, you are charged the $60 you would've paid had you done the lesson. Additionally, the actual instruction is very poor. The instructor is only there to make sure you don't damage or kill anything and doesn't take the time to lay out the fine details that accompany good driving. I recently received a call for a missed lesson, and the owner said, "I've got to pay my instructors and you need to pay the $60 for the lesson you missed." Everything makes sense in this scenario except for the fact that she's paying the instructor, who really doesn't deserve any of the money since he just sits silently with his foot on the secondary brake. I have called them repeatedly for two weeks and they have never called me back. Don't they want my money? To bad there aren't more options for a driving school in Ithaca... Somebody open a business please.Read Less

I have no idea whether the instructors for this company are any good, but this is the kind of customer service you can expect from the Big Red Bell Driving School. I called to set up an appointment for a particular time. I live in a house with its own driveway, so I waited in the house for someone to ring the doorbell, while I got chores done around the house. By 15 minutes after the person was supposed to show up, I left a message on their voicemail (no one ever answered the telephone directly when I called) expressing my frustration with the no-show. I got an angry message later in the day saying that the person came to my house and waited outside for 20 minutes and then left. This may or may not be true, because the driver did nothing to signal to me that he was there. I called and left a message saying that if the person came, then he should have knocked on the door or called with a cellphone, given that I was at home WAITING the whole time and an additional hour after that. He called back and started yelling at me that he told me when we set up the appointment that no one would come to the door, which he certainly did not tell me. He yelled that they never leave the car and that they don't carry cellphones and that as far as he's concerned, I owe him $50. I responded that I do not owe him $50, and I began to explain that it was perfectly reasonable for me to expect the driver to make some attempt to let me know he was out there, especially given that there is a driveway with no cars in it right next to the house. The guy on the phone never let me explain though, because he started yelling again and saying that I have a ""problem"" and that I can call another driving school. I plan to do just that, and I recommend that you do the same. Read Less
