I highly recommend Sharkey driving school to anyone. The people are laidback and charming. I took a private driving lessons and the DMV roadtest with Sharkey. My instructor was RoseMary. She is an easy person and always likes to chat. That made me comfortable and made me a confident driver. She and i was able to pass the roadtest without much nervousness. On the other hand the price practiced at Sharkey compared to manhattan counterparts is definitely a great plus! Read Less

I highly recommend Sharkey's. Everyone at Sharkey's is great. I took the 5-hour Saturday class to take the written exam and 10 private driving lessons plus the DMV road test with them. I had not driven a car in 15 years, and only drove a little bit back then. Since my license had  expired, I decided to find a local school too brush up on driving and to help me sign up for and take the test.  I felt immediately comfortable and in good hands during my lessons with both Monique and Rosemary, who also owns the business. Monique was also fun and easy to chat with during the driving lessons, which helped me feel less nervous while driving. All in all, I think it all cost me around $600, which included an additional 1.5 hr lesson on highway driving after I was licensed, and it was worth every penny. Now about 8 months later I'm licensed, insured, and driving all around Brooklyn, looking forward to passing Monique and a new student in the student driver car so I can wave hello. Thanks! Read Less

i am reviewing the service in which sharkey's will go to the DMV for you to register your car, not the driving school itself, which i have no experience with.i have used sharkey's twice to get my cars registered and both times were very good experiences. the employees i dealt with were very knowledgable, offering advice to ensure that i would get the registration the first time and there would not be any delays. the fee seems quite low for the amount of time they save you.i have recommended the service to my boss who needs to register one of his trucks. i would recommend the service to anyone who has a busy life and doesn't want to spend time going to the DMV. it is one of the most reasonable and helpful businesses i have dealt with in new york city. Let me update this review by saying there are new management/staff since the original reviews from 4 or 5 years ago..Upon my first impression, within my first 10mins at the Sharkey's office the Secretary, Ms Effie, was super nice. While filling out the paper work to sign up, her boss and the new driving instructor "Rosemary" belittled her right in front of me because she could not get the office router to work. A awesome first impression in front of a new potential customer. After starting lessons I quickly found the instructor Rosemary was making smart, belittling and sarcastic remarks towards me.Well today in what has become my last lesson with Sharkey's, I encountered yet another unpleasant event from Rosemary. While waiting to start my lesson with Rosemary, she gets diarrhea of the mouth saying "what are you doing waiting on a invitation, get in the car, I'm sure Effie told you i was outside waiting on you." I finally ask her ma'am could you please stop talking to me like that, she then ask me to get out and refused to continue my lessons. Actually this probably was a blessing in disguise before I spent more money for sub-par services. My only advice is to proceed with caution. Read Less

It doesn't surprise me that one of the commenters here claims to have been taught by an intoxicated driver. One of their drivers ran a red light and hit the side of my head with their bus' mirror and then did not even step out of the bus to see if I was okay. When I tried to get them to pay for my hospital bill, they tried to blame me, A PEDESTRIAN, for the drivers negligence. They didn't even call to see if I was okay or check on how I was doing. These people do not care about anything but saving their own asses and making money. Save your money and go to a better driving school, one that does not employ reckless instructors who will drink and drive or run red lights and carelessly hit people crossing the street. Save your money and go to another driving school. Complete rip off. The car used for classes and road test is in horrible condition. In the middle of my first driving class, the car just shut down. Happened to me twice on the same day. Driving instructor teaches you to become a pretty reckless driver. On our way to the road test, we almost get into an accident because she was on her phone. When it was my turn for the exam, it turned out sharkeys never confirmed my exam with the dmv and I ended up unable to take it after a 7 week wait. Now I have to wait another 7 weeks. Ok today I am riding my bike along Kent avenue towerds the bridge. Around 12 street a car starts to pull out from the right. I look at the driver and she sees me I am shouting hold it. She pulls right across the bike lane and stops. Forcing me to stop a few feet from her driver door. Turns out this is a Sharkeys Driving School car. I shout what the hell are you doing what are ypou doing. One would expect an apology. NO. The instructor leans over and lets out a stream of invective at me. Basically defending this illegal and dangerous driving. Tells me he has a class A license he knows the law and wj=ho am I .. I know nothing I am no one. I get home I call Sharkeys and talk to Rosemary (She represents herself as the owner). Apology ?? NO. She has spoke with the guy already and has formed some weird defense and even has the audacity to ask me if I a driving license, as if I am unqualified to know the laws of the highway. Short review. If you want to learn how to kill or maim a cyclist Sharkey is your school. If you want to learn how to drive and understand law and how to behave behind the wheel give this place a miss. Read Less

Today I was biking in a bike lane and someone was rudely honking at me. Then a Sharkey's car passed me. At the red light I told the instructor to not honk at bikes and he said that they had to. Honking at bicyclists for no reason is just startling and rude. What else do you learn to do at Sharkey's? Park in the bike lane? They say it's the law for car drivers to always honk at bicyclists when you approach them but in fact the law says to honk when necessary. (Look it up. Citysearch won't let me link to the law here.) I would hardly call it necessary to scare me with honking while I'm riding in a bike lane with traffic. Please find another driving school, one that teaches how to share the road with others.
