I definitely recommend Mr Steve, he explains everything very thoroughly and if you make a mistake he tries to get to the root of the issue by asking you what do you think you did wrong and uses humor at the same time. He offers package deals which is great even though his pricing is much better than others in the area already. Read Less

AVOID THIS DRIVING SCHOOL!     I'm going to attempt to explain how incompetent these people are, but I may not have enough space or time to say it all. I bought a bunch of lessons and a road test package from Mr. Steve's Driving school. On the day of my road test, the driving instructor Mark, apparently quit and never showed up. I took 6 lessons with this guy, which were going great, but then he vanishes without a trace ON THE DAY OF MY TEST. No one from the driving school ever called to let me know; Mark never answered his phone when I called him several times before and after the test--and I missed my exam. Strike one.       The woman at their office, Arielle, apologized for what happened and rescheduled my road test at another date. Several months later, I take another lesson with Mr. Steve (who is kind of a clown), and on the day of my new road test, I arrive to find out that they mixed up test dates and I was supposed to go the day before. They booked Dec. 12th and inadvertently told me (and themselves) Dec. 13th! Really?? It's like I'm dealing with five-year olds....for 2nd time in a row they screw up my road test! Strike 2.      Shockingly, I stayed on with them for a 3rd road test (it was still due to me), which I finally took (and failed--I made a bad judgment call at a stop sign). After that, I was done with them. On my way to the road test, they tried to make me sit through 2 of their students' driving lessons in order save time, which was completely ludicrous. That was strike 3. You get the sense pretty quickly that they are completely disorganized and have no regard for other people's time. They try to be friendly and reasonable but at the end of the day, they don't seem to know what they are doing. I asked for a makeup or discounted lesson after they screwed up my 2nd road test--their mistakes cost me time and money (I had to take more lessons before the exams because it takes over a month to book and I didn't have a car of my own to practice with) and dragged this thing out way longer than it had to be--but they said no. And I wasn't surprised....they do not value their customers. All their instructors have quit, I've been told, and now there is only Mr. Steve. I think you can see why.Do yourself a favor stay away from Mr. Steve's Driving School. They are not worth it. Read Less

I did about a couple of lessons with Mr. Steve. I felt I was ready for the first road test with his advice on driving behind the wheel. Until I decided to drive with a relative and almost trashed their car. Mr. Steve's concept of ""looking up"" when driving puts the driver and its passengers at risk. So driving with people made me question if Mr. Steve is giving me weird advice that doesn't work on the road while taking my money. So I decided to take my first road test to determine whether or not I needed to drop this driving school and go to another one. When I failed the road test, I read the mistakes I made and realized Mr. Steve knew some of the bad driving habits I developed and did nothing to work on it. What I really found disappointing was that he wanted to work on those problems after I failed the road test. From a customer standpoint, ""You knew I had a problem, smile in my face like everything is ok, and take my $38 each lesson"". In my opinion, its a good way to be nice to your customer so they will come back to you. What pisses me off is I trusted Mr. Steve until I realize my driving skills did not improve. Now back to my objective review, When I went with Mr. Steve to take the road test. He was saying things concerning the road test he did not talk about during my couple of lessons with him. Which was strange. Saying one thing in the lessons and another thing on the day of the road test. I had to leave and go to another driving school, which solved all my problems (which Mr. Steve failed in doing) in one day. It took those guys nearly 3 months to undo ""everything"" from Mr. Steve taught me and I've became a better and more confident driver. Thanks to them, I've got my driver's license last week and very grateful. I won't even give the driving school's name. But if anyhow you feel Mr. Steve is ripping you off. You should drive with someone and see where you add up in terms of driving. It breaks my heart that I trusted Mr. Steve and realized I wasn't becoming a better driver. I hope Mr. Steve takes this advice and changes up his strategies for teaching people how to drive because ""No one shouldn't have to trust someone only to find out that the person didn't deliver the goods"". P.S. As someone is wondering if I was nervous during my first road test. I was confident like any person would be when I took my test, only to find out I failed. :( Read Less

Although I got my license 3 months ago, I feel like making a review. Like the comment said before, ""only way you can fail is when your nervous"", which is almost true in anything in life. Even though, Mr. Steve is a nice guy I'll keep my review objective as possible. Pro: He ""always"" comes on time and apologizes if he ever comes late. Makes you feel relaxed, help you increase your driver confidence. Driver confidence is a must because driving in NYC streets can be a challenge. Con: 1.Some of his tips aren't helpful. I tried some of his tips when driving with a friend and nearly got into an collision with another car. Thankfully, I was lucky and we nearly escaped death. After I failed my first road test, I stopped following ""all"" of his tips and I was driving like a pro. Took the 2nd road test 2 months after and passed. 2. I gave a friend some driving practice in a car and everytime he turns he was ""looking up into the sky where the birds are (literally)"" when he should be focused on what's ahead of him. He nearly hit a child that was running across the street. When I asked who told you to do this, he said he learned it from Mr. Steve from Mr. Steve's driving school. 3. Even though I didn't go with the first road test with Mr. Steve. I failed the road test. I had confidence that I can pass with Mr. Steve's tips but I realized that I developed bad driving habits. Something Mr. Steve failed to point out. He needs to work on emphasizing the bad driving habits of each person and say why each one is dangerous. Maybe more people would pass the road test. Again, like I said. Mr. Steve = Nice Guy. In my opinion if your trying to get a driving license in the shortest period of time. Avoid Mr. Steve and find a driving school thats more towards helping your get that license in the shortest time possible. If you have all the time in the world, take mr. steve to increase your driver confidence, ignore most of his tips, and get driving practice with a friend or relative. This school still has a potential to become a great school with slight improvements. Read Less

This is Arielle Kresin and I work with Mr. Steve's Driving School. I read the reviews and comments and everyone has a right to their opinion and feelings but it is truly unfair to say something that isn't true. We NEVER advise our customers to take the road test if they aren't comfortable or they don't feel they're ready. Most people, whether good drivers or great drivers, may fail due to their nerves. We CANT GUARANTEE ANYONE would pass, but we would tell you honestly whether we feel you are ready or not. AND IF YOU DONT FEEL READY then you, as the customer, have to express that and say it, not just go for it and then blame someone else cause you made a bad choice. We try very hard here at Mr. Steve's Driving School to teach everyone what they need to know to pass the test and be good, safe, defensive drivers. If you dont feel you were given the best service or the service you deserved then I truly and greatly apologize. Read Less

I'm Mr. Steve's daughter. I believe the review written by jacobsmillenium and lillianpeach was another driving school because of competition. My father has been teaching people how to drive for over 40 years. This is how he met my mother. When I was little, I would go to work with him, and I was not allowed to make a sound when he was teaching. I know that sometimes his jokes are tacky, but they are always done in a lightharted manner and to help relax the nerves of new drivers. Other driving schools do what is called ""piggy backing"". PIggy backing is when, toward the end of the lesson, have the first student drive to pick up the second student, then have the second student drive the first student home. This is what the other driving schools do to make extra money. My father refuses to do this becasue it takes away time from his students and could possible make them more nervous. My father cares about his student and goes out of his way for them. He is a good driving teaching and a good person. If you want a good teacher who will give you an honest opinion on your driving and how to improve, you will not find a better school than Mr. Steve's Driving School. Read Less

I took lessons and thought the information I received let me decide how many lessons I should take. Lillianpeach and jacobsmillenium seems as if they copy and pasted the same review.....hmmmm same person perhaps? During the lessons I learned where my mistake were and was encouraged to practice with family or friends if possible, which I did, and honed my skills. I was encouraged to take the road test but felt I wasn't ready and said so, perhaps something Lillian peach and jacobsmillenium didn't do, and continued taking lessons until I felt I could pass. Sometimes the jokes were a little much but I found asking questions about how I was doing lessened them and I was more focused on improving than I was on humor. I also knew there were other instructors so if I wanted to see how I would do with someone else I could call up and switch instructors. I found the environment friendly, light, and open making me want to continue learning. Anyone can have a family or friend teach them how to drive...if you don't like the person who's teaching you, get out and don't take anymore lessons. If you want someone who is willing to work with you to develop your skills I would reccommend going to Mr. Steve's. Read Less

i thought the intstructor was very detailed and gave exactly the information necessary to pass the test. he had his moment with the jokes but it was all in good humor and certainly not personally offensive. he never shorted me on any of my time, the one time he showed up 5 minutes late he gave me my 5 minutes back. his package plans were more then fair in comparison to the other schools out there as well as even makes it so you can use a payment plan if you dont have all the money upfront. i guess everyone's experiences really are different...as far as failing the road test no one is guaranteed to pass and truthfully to other guy if he said ""lets see what happens"" its probably because most people say they think they're not ready when they are, they're just nervous. maybe he didnt want you to think he was trying to get more money from you by giving you more lessons that werent warranted... I totally agree with lillianpeach. This is the same exact experience that I had. I can tell which instructor lillianpeach had from this review as well. He really must do this all the time. Shorts you on time... tells so many racial and irrelevant jokes... and gives you a nonsense package deal that forces you to take more single lessons... that so do not help. I feel for you lilianpeach What a scam! The instructor spent way too much time giving off-color, racially tinged humor than actually prepping for the exam. I had no experience and asked him honestly if the package would be sufficent enough. I took a few extra classes and felt that I wasn't ready to take the road test, but he told me to take it and ""see what happens."" What happended was failure and a waste of time and money. Talked too much during the lessons making it difficult to concentrate, though some of his little tips did help, but not enough to pass the test. I went driving with one of my friends and did things according to his lessons, and basically they said he was just taking my money Read Less
