Very impressed with this school ! I only took 2 lessons one 45 minute lesson and one short pre road test driving class and I passed the test ( practiced on my own time but they taught me all the necessary steps to pass the test ) ... my one class was with Isaac.. Isaac was very good he talked a lot and explained everything gave a lot of advice .. he was very professional and knowledgeable .. the 30 minute class I took with Eugene and once again very good experience ... our road test was in Staten Island so we left Brooklyn with plenty of time before the test .. when we got to Staten Island Eugene drove around for quite a while showing us a lot of tips while driving to pass the test ( totally extra he didn't have to do any of that he was just a nice guy who wanted us to pass ) after that we had a 30 minute pre test class ( it was me and another student so I had 30 minutes and the other student had 30 minutes ) and again Eugene was so helpful and so calm and very helpful ! Even though I know how to drive the road test itself has many rules and if you don't follow the rules the inspector will fail you with any big mistake otherwise they take points for every mistake and you can fail .. I would recommend this school to everyone and anyone ... !!! Not all schools have teachers who will actually help you some schools have instructors who don't care .. Passed my road test yesterday with only 10 points. I only wish I had found this school sooner. Unfortunately it was my fourth driving school. By the time I called them, I had already spent tons of money and time, and was absolutely discouraged, aggravated, and fed up with the process. I had already failed a road test, and I still couldn't even make a right turn. My own father gave up on teaching me. My instructor Valeriy did what no one else could. Today, not only do I feel comfortable behind the wheel, I actually enjoy driving. He was always calm, encouraging, and patient, something that I've found is not always the case with driving instructors. I recommend going for the 90 minute lessons, I feel like I benefited a lot more from driving longer in one trip, and I ended up only needing 5 lessons. Please do not repeat my experience, and go for the cheaper schools, you'll just end up paying twice. Read Less

I'm so happy I passed my road test on the first try. Big thanks to Yulia, my instructor who helped me push myself to the limit. She gave me the best advice how to pass the road test. She was so nice to me and friendly. I took the 3(45min) Lesson Package for about $345.00. Everything you need to know about driving is there. It was a great lesson for me and very helpful to pass my road test. So, more importantly always pay attention to your instructor, otherwise you will fail. If you want to pass the road test, I'll recommend you to take driving lesson here at Left Turn Driving School. They will help you pass your road test just like me who never drove a car before. This school milked my money I failed my test twice with them managed to take my test third time with another school and passed by 0 points deduction. The cost of the lessons road test early test date here so much more expensive than other schools. I was instructed to turn into bicycle line when I'm making a turn that's a no no the way how I was taught to park was such a complicated way which another school thought me an easier method and it helped me to pass my road test with flying colors. Making things complicated would only make the student continue to take lessons pay more money. I would not recommend this school. Read Less

I purchased a 6 lesson package with a road test in the summer of 2015. I took 3 lessons that summer and because of unexpected circumstances, wasn't able to continue lessons until the following year. This year I was able to finish my 3 lessons with Eugene, an instructor who is very patient, calm, and gives great guidance. I had trouble parallel parking and he taught me a way that really worked. My road test was scheduled by the office about a month and a half in advance and they worked with me to find a date that fit into my busy schedule. Eugene practiced with me near the area of my road test on the day of which helped a lot. I passed on the first try! I would definitely recommend this driving school and Eugene as an instructor. I liked their service greatly. I took one lesson from them for 90 mins as I had an Indian driving license and just needed a little guidance to help me with driving on US roads. The instructor came to my house to pick me up. She was a little late but she came on little notice. Paulina was very helpful and nice. She gave me straight answers to my questions. I forgot the instructor name who I had one lesson with but he was very rude to a point I got discourage from getting my license. Every time I made a mistake he would breathe loudly and get frustrated with me as if I was wasting his time. I did take another lesson with another instructor who was a woman named Valerie she was so helpful and sweet but sadly I wouldn't be returning to this school for lessons. This review is long overdue.  I thought having anxiety meant I would never, ever be able to drive on a regular basis and definitely not on highways or long drives.  My instructor Valeriy was great.  He was patient, gave me great tips, and pushed me with tough love when I thought there was no chance or ever obtaining a license.  Thanks to him I can actually say I enjoy driving and drive everywhere all the time now.  Highways, long 4 hour drives, etc you name it.  Thank you Valeriy and thank you Left Turn Driving School! My son took lessons for months from this place.  Because he had some trouble getting the feel for acceleration, his teacher suggested he take off his sneakers.  And he continued to do that every time he drove.  When he finally took the test, his tester told him, No, he had to wear shoes.  This threw him off, and he failed the test.  Surely his instructor should have known the rules, that one is not allowed to take the test without shoes on.  It was wrong of him to let my son take all his lessons like that.The school is also often hard to reach by phone.   I would not recommend them. Alex the owner and instructor could not care less about his students.  Especially when he sees he can't make much more money off of them. My first lesson with Left Turn was with an instructor who had a crappy car which he had to stop in the middle of the lesson to raise the hood up and fix. This didn't make me feel safe so I asked for another instructor. Alex personally guaranteed satisfaction with his instruction. During my lessons with him, for which I was paying good money, he was constantly on the phone, either texting, calling, or checking his stocks (as was revealed to me later on). He did not give me time to think about taking a class package deal after a 5 hour class. It was either "now or never". I went ahead and took it out of desperation to get on with getting my license. When it came to the road test I was scheduled in an undesirable location because I had asked to take the test as soon as possible.  Alex's argument was that he always wants to please the customer, but a real instructor would suggest either waiting for a better location or for me to be better prepared as a driver (which he should've said if he thought so). Instead he likes to blame his customer. If this is not enough to show his total apathy for the customer, we did not even practice K-Turns during our lessons! If I didn't find out on my own that K-turns were on the exam, I wouldn't have even asked the morning of the exam. His response was, oh yea let's do some now. THE DAY OF THE TEST!!! On the way to the test he was holding his phone by his knee, texting while driving, until I told him to stop because it was illegal and he was showing a bad example and he gave me some bull**** about him texting with his hand held higher so he could see the road simultaneously. He lied straight to my face as I was watching him.If you're not convinced here's more.In discussing a story about a former student who insisted on getting taken to pass a road test because she "just needed the license for work" and wasn't planning on actually using it. Alex displayed his bad judgement again when he went along, got her to pass the test, which put an inexperienced driver on the road, and ended with her causing an accident while just moving a car out of a space shortly after. After I failed the road test I called to schedule a new one along with lessons, the secretary told me she'd call me back with dates and times. This never happened so I called again, and the same thing happened. They knew I wasn't going to spend as much money and lost interest in me , or didn't care to begin with. Alex personally had my contact info saved in his cellphone and never checked up to see if I was continuing any sessions. Months later, I called with a question and he didn't even pick up on me, I called from another phone and he picked up immediately. I did not pass my first time because Alex wasn't planning on having me pass my first time. From the beginning he gave lessons apathetically. He didn't even teach me K-Turns until the DAY OF THE EXAM, and only because I asked!I took on a private instructor and passed within a few months because the instructor told me like it was, not what I wanted to hear. Passed my road test on the first try!I'm not an amazing driver (I think the guy who road tested me was really nice...), but having Anastasia as my driving instructor really boosted my confidence and knowledge.I took the 10 Lesson Package. Lessons were 45 minutes each and it pick up and drop off was free. Anastasia was always a few minutes early, which was great! She was extremely helpful in teaching me the rules of the roads and consistently told me how I should improve as well as gave me many driving scenarios and stories to ponder. On the day of the road test, she helped me calm down and was really excited to find out I passed! I wouldn't be as confident if not for her, so thank you! Read Less

Unprofessional!My husband and I decided to sign up for a refresher driving lesson as we both have our licenses but haven't driven in a while. We decided to book back to back lessons on a Sunday morning with an instructor named Alex. We received a confirmation phone call & voicemail the Saturday before to confirm our appointment. We went outside a few mins early for our 10am just in case he got there early. Around 10:10 we decided to call and just confirm again, since 10 mins have gone by with no instructor and no phone call; they confirmed our address and we were told to give him a few minutes he will be right there. At roughly 10:25am we figured something was up and called again only to be told Alex was actually not going to be available because it was Labor Day weekend. -We booked the appointment over a week ago! -We got a confirmation call the day before! -We were even told to keep waiting at 10am when we called and now he's not showing up!!!  We woke up early on a Labor Day Sunday and wasted 30 minutes waiting outside for someone who was never going to show up or bother to give us the courtesy to tell us the lesson was not happening.  Honestly, I'm glad the lesson didn't happen. Terrible service! I had an appointment at 2, called at 215 because the instructor did not show up and no one picked up the phone Til the 3rd time. Finally, said they'd get back to me... Almost an hour later saying he can't make it, and that they can give me an appointment at 530 that day??!! These people do not take their business seriously, and did not apologize either. All I can say is wow. I don't know why anyone would leave a bad review for this school... was very surprised by some other comments here. Anyway, I found the school through an Amazon local deal. The office isn't much to look at but the staff was great. Ayperi and Paul were very patient in coordinating lessons with my crazy busy schedule. I took my first lesson with Tarosh and he was great but after reading about Alex's 97% pass rate, I had to give him a shot. At 6'8", I thought he was going to be tough and militant but what I got was the complete opposite. He was patient and soft spoken which made me feel very comfortable behind the wheel. He gave me honest feedback and did not just teach me how to pass the road test but he taught me how to be a safe and responsible driver.  I highly recommend this school and Alex as an instructor.I'm 32 years old and failed the road test at 25 years old. I thought I would never pass the test but because of Alex, I finally have my driver license in less than 10 lessons. To those who find this expensive, I say how can you put a price on your independence? You pay for what you get and that is exactly what they provide. I'm a 28 year old who doesn't have a driver's license. Since I've spent all of my life in the city, I've never needed a license. However, I'm planning on leaving the city since it's hard to find a decent job here. I need to learn how to drive since there are parts of the country with poor public transportation. I decided to get driving lessons.I've had lessons with my old man on and off for the past 3 years, but they were usually in an empty parking lot. I never really drove in traffic. I chose this school since they boasted about a 97% pass rate. I'm not going to lie- I chose Anastasia because her profile picture looked cute. Unfortunately for me, her personality wasn't so cute.At the beginning of the lesson, I made it clear that I was a nervous driver. She seemed apathetic and callous. She kept admonishing me for mistakes that I made. She didn't understand the fact that I WENT TO DRIVING SCHOOL BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE. It's only fair that I point out that she did make an effort to explain some things, like the difference between a regular stop sign and an all way stop sign. She also explained how to parallel park and do a three point turn. My mediocre rating has nothing to do with the competency of the instructors at LTD- these people know what they're talking about. It has to do with their attitude.The drivers in Brooklyn are ruthless. They have no sympathy for a guy who is trying to learn how to drive. Whenever they felt that I was driving too slow, they'd overtake me. I felt that was disrespectful. When I complained about that, Anastasia basically said, "Tough luck, deal with it."There was one week when she was overbooked. In the back of my mind, I was glad that I wouldn't have to deal with her. Instead, I had Sasha. Much to my chagrin, he was even worse. He got pissed off when I inadvertently drove in a bike lane. He nagged me to the point where I felt like saying, "F**k this" and getting out of the car. After that lesson (which ended about two and a half hours ago), I decided to no longer take lessons at LTD.I don't mean to sound racist, but Russians are terse and impatient people. Whenever they teach someone something, they don't coddle them. I had a similar experience with a Russian math professor in college. I will try to find another driving school. If you have thick skin and are willing to take a lot of abuse, then by all means sign up for lessons at LTD. If you're a nervous and/or sensitive person, then don't even think about taking lessons at this school. Read Less

After more than 15 years of inactivity as a driver, I suddenly had a need to be able to drive. I had been traumatized by a bad car accident, so I definitely needed professional help to get my confidence back. I had a great experience with Left Turn, and I actually discovered I liked driving!Pros: Overall instruction was very good. Sasha was my primary instructor, though I had a few over the course of 5 lessons. I learned the skills I needed and when I finally had to get in the driver's seat by myself (driving myself from the airport to my new apartment in a new city), I actually felt great. Got a good amount of experience in a variety of situations (highways, local roads, bad weather).Cons: They were a little disorganized (this was in August 2011 -- there may have been improvements since then). I used their online scheduling system, and twice I had instructor no-shows due to some confusion on their end. They had a hard time deviating from their prescribed new driver plan. I explained that I didn't want to spend a lot of time on parallel parking since I already had a license and was moving to a VERY suburban area, and they still had me practice this a lot. One day the instructor had me parallel park 4 separate times! I understand it is an important skill, but I had a very limited amount of time to re-learn to drive and I wanted to focus on road skills.Overall I definitely recommend Left Turn -- love having the freedom to get out on the road with confidence! first I must say this review isn't about food, it's different.This is my review on my experienced with LTD, most importantly with Anastasia :-)She's been my instructor since day one-well day one as in my recent lessons. She was very patient with me. She taught me all the basics and was professional.Anastasia showed me how to start a car, even though I knew but she felt like showing me anyway. She also went through and showed me the signs in case if my car (one day) wouldn't start this is why and what to do in in case it happens to me one day. I was also taught what to do in certain conditions, because one of my lessons was after that last big snow we had sometime last month. I also had one of my lessons in the evening which was important because I understand and know how to drive when it gets dark.I would definitely recommend Anastasia to anyone who needs lesson. She's professional, consistent, patient and genuine :-)She made it possible for me to finally have my license today the 10th of February. Terrible. Alex was always 15-20 minutes late. Perhaps I'm just terrible at driving, but boy, did he have no patience with me. I almost cried after our 4th lesson, because he just seemed so angry/frustrated at my lack of improvement. He took me on the Highway during the first 2 lessons. I'm not sure what he meant to do by doing that. The lesson right after was driving on steep, narrow neighborhood hills. Not quite sure what he meant to do with that either. I was a beginner.The school is also extremely expensive. I had gotten one of the packages, so perhaps that was why Alex 'taught' me the way that he did. Sad, because if everything had worked out, I would have added lessons anyway.I still have 1 more lesson with this school, but they can keep my money.It's kind of unfortunate, I hate leaving bad reviews.
