Lived in New York most of my life. Never bother to get a driver license until now. So i am almost 40 now and was nervous to get behind the wheel for the first time. I signed up for three lessons, the 5-hour class, and a road test. My experience with the school was excellent. They gave me the skills I needed to pass the road test (having failed it twice before), and to approach driving with a sense of confidence and security. I wholeheartedly recommend Amethyst to anyone who is looking to get their license or improve their driving skills! The staff was wonderful! Daria, the general manager, would always call a day in advance of my driving lesson to confirm. She was polite, professional, and always very pleasant to deal with. The owner, Anastasia, taught the 5-hour class. As boring as those classes tend to be, she made it quite enjoyable and informed us of everything we need to know for the road test. My driving instructor, Alex, was absolutely excellent. I cannot stress enough how great he is! The teaching style was perfect: Alex was firm, without being too overbearing, attentive, and understanding. My confidence and competence as a driver improved  under his direction. I just passed my road test after taking a pack of 10 lessons, and I absolutely recommend this school! I had never sat behind a wheel before taking classes at this school, and Anastasia was incredibly patient with me and did an incredible job teaching me to drive! The 5 hour class was very helpful and clear. It was a little bit hard to spot at first, but all the staff that I talked to were very friendly and helpful in answering any questions that I had, even when I had to call them to find the building! Roman is the man. I was terrified of driving the first time I got behind the wheel and with his help I passed the road test. He is a former sports coach, so he has a lot of teaching experience. Roman the driving instructor is PERFECT. I am extremely pleased with his professionalism and attentiveness. He is thorough, encouraging and an exceptional instructor.  I'm not a new driver but I had an accident several years ago and it prevented me from driving. Roman was patient and understanding. AVOID AVOID AVOID . I would give zero stars if I could. Have no communication between front desk staff and drivers. Do not care about verbal agreements. Absolutely ignore if you have a medical condition to make your life harder (edit: claims they care in her comment but the driver absolutely ignored so she may care but her employee didn't). AND I took the test on a different car than learning on (took a couple lessons on this car AMD SWITCHED INSTRUCTORS SPECIFICALLY TO USE A DIFFERENT CAR TO LEARN ON) which as a new driver is the worst possible way to attempt a driving test, on an unfamiliar car. If you absolutely have to go here, avoid the driver named Alex. Do yourselves a favor and take your business to a better school.Edit: I forgot to mention : if something is part of the package that I purchased, I was annoyed that it was referred to as "free". Isn't the point of the package deals that it includes certain things? Otherwise I would pay for every lesson, test, and service a la carte. I highly recommend and had a great experience with Amethyst Driving School. I took my five hour class here with Anastasia and several lessons with instructor Roman. Both instructors do a great job making you understand the rules of the road. Roman is a great instructor, detail oriented, patient and explains everything thoroughly. He makes sure to explain where you made a mistake and how to fix this mistake. In addition, always compliments you when you have learned something sufficiently, an excellent booster that will make you feel confident on the road. I came to this driving school with little experience in driving. I bought the package of 3 lessons, 5hour class and use of the car for the road test. I can not express how happy I am I choose this school. Alex my instructor was awesome, he gave me feedback and we worked on it until we got it right. Today I achieved my license and am overwhelmed with joy. If anyone needs great teaching this is definitely the place to go! Had an excellent experience with Amethyst driving school. The 5hr class is a 5hr class, the instructor was nice and explained everything, of course if you had any questions she was happy to answer them. It was also nice that it was only a handful of people in the class, wasn't full. My driving instructor was Roman, that guy is the best. His goal is to make you pass your road exam on the first try with 0 points. I've decided  to go to Amethyst Driving School after reading all their great reviews. However, the reviews doesn't reflect the experience I had at their school. I started with a 5 hour course with Anastasia. I learned a lot and I had a great feeling about the school. The 5 hour course was actually 3 hours, but I didn't mind because I didn't want to stay for 5 hours anyway. However, my experience  with their Driving Instructors was a totally different experience. Every single time I finished my lesson, I feel frustrated and angry. My first instructor was Alex. He is very strict and expects you to get everything perfect the first time. While practicing with turns, I moved slowly and cautiously because I didn't know how much the car would turn when I turned the steering wheel. He started panicking and kept repeating and raising his voice to tell me to drive. He doesn't understand that beginners move slower than more advanced drivers. He expected me to follow his instructions and get it perfect the first time and he made sure that the car was turning perfectly by doing it himself. How am I suppose to get a feel of car if you take the steering wheel from me? After 3 lessons, I didn't feel like I was learning much and I didn't like being yelled at so I changed instructors.The next instructor I worked with, Roman, understood that beginners move more slowly. He didn't comment that I took a few seconds more than other drivers to make turns. However, he likes to be right. An example would be when I was making a turn on a stop sign that is not all way, I first checked to see if there were any pedestrians, then moved forward and looked at my left to see if cars were coming from my left, then I would look at my right. He told me that I should look both ways. Well, I need to first look at the left then look at the right. I can't see both sides at the same time. He told me that I can.... When he realized that he made a mistake, he told me that he's trying to help me pass my road test and he asked if I wanted to pass the road test. Then he told me that I need to listen to him because he is trying to help me pass the road test. This made me so frustrated. It was clear to me that he made a mistake and is trying to save face and cover it up.If you like having your day ruined, go to this DS. Read Less

Not the best place. Forgive me for the long review but I think this needs explaining. Alex was my instructor. There was a language barrier. Would get frustrated if I asked him to elaborate, was very inconsistent towards my last couple of lessons... He didn't have me practice my turns a lot or have me drive through traffic, a lot of the time he just had me drive down straight roads...On the day of my road test there was a miscommunication between Alex and the office with the time it was scheduled, thankfully I was ready earlier. I calmly explained that it was okay they made a mistake because I was already ready to go anyway trying to ease the tension, but the instructor kept yelling at me that I was picking a bad time to be irresponsible blah blah blah. No understanding of decency whatsoever. With all the yelling going on, I became super nervous for my road test.There was also an incident going on the day I went in for my 5 hour course. A parent was upset that her daughter was given a vehicle that wasn't safe to drive (there was an issue with the breaks) & Anastasia refused to give a refund for that ONE lesson... She insisted that the car was safe to drive, even though Roman warned her daughter that the breaks weren't working. Why would anyone put a teenager in a car like that when they're learning how to drive? It went on and on between the parent and Anastasia because Amethyst refused to take accountability for this - as they did with everything else. When I was looking into this place, there was all these good reviews but from what I've seen, this place seems like a hit or miss. 5 hour course is great though! Read Less

Amazing. I've taken the road exam 3 times with a different driving school & each time, I failed. Passed on the first try at this school. The Russian lady may criticize you a lot but it's for your own good. I've driven through multiple busy streets and each time, she tells me exactly the right thing to do. Read Less

Did my five hour course here, which, I mean it's a five hour course so it was horrible and long, but if you are in Brooklyn off the B/Q line it's easy to get to and not pricey. I also took several lessons with Anastasia. She's awesome! Keeps it real with you; firm, but personable and really helps you develop good driving habits. The car you learn in is modern, clean and a good size - not crazy big or crazy small. I wouldn't have passed my road test without her help! Thanks! Read Less

This driving school is the best! They have an awesome package, ($500 for 10 lessons plus one free lesson on the test day) and it was well worth it. Roman was my teacher and he is AMAZING. Not only is he a wonderful teacher, but he was a pretty cool guy as well. Very friendly, and made me feel comfortable and safe behind the wheel. Anastasia gave me the 5 hour class and she clearly answered any questions I had about the video. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn to drive! The lady receptionist also gives you a days notice and confirmation before every lesson, and schedules them to work within your work/school schedule. All around PERFECTION! Read Less

I can't say anything but GREAT!I came there from different driving school. I were very unsatisfied. The instructor lied to me about exam and tried to make me take as much classes as I can. I never drive before, so after 10-12 classes he still told me that I weren't ready and I have a lot to learn. So, I decide to try another school. I was driving with all 3 instructors there and everybody are very professional. My experience just AMAZING! They fix my mistakes for just 2 classes and I were ready to go to my driving test. Honestly, I didn't pass with my first take but its have nothing to do with my driving skills. I were too nervous. Lady at the office (unfortunately, I didn't remember her name) scheduled my test in next 4 days. She helped me with location and time. So, I wanna finish this review with big THANK YOU for the whole team - Alex, Anastasia and especially Roman, who gave me right push right before the test, so I passed it with confidence and only 15 points!P.S. All their cars new and clean. And they have a SUV. Since I'm  6'7, I can't fit in most regular sedans. That was one of the biggest surprises. Way to go guys! Read Less
