I will be completely honest. I stumbled upon this driving school by chance. And I must say, I thank goodness that i did. Raymond is a very patient instructor. He's kind, gives very detailed instruction, and if you get to know him he's very personable and quite funny (as an added bonus). In my previous years of driving I thought I knew what I was doing. But he teaches you the proper, safe way to drive. I have never been able to park a car in 1 shot the way I have with his instruction. God bless you raymond. Your formula is genius! I passed my road test on my first try after 4 lessons. Recommend even more than a 10/10!!!!! Do yourself a favor and sign up for lessons here Read Less

(Oct. 2016) Well first off, I passed my road test on my first try!! I really can't describe how happy I am lol. :D Six Step Formula Driving School is located a few blocks from my house. I decided to look them up online and saw a lot of negative reviews. Further the less, I gave them a try anyway. To my surprise, my experience was the complete opposite. My first lesson went terribly wrong. I've never been behind the wheel in my entire life and I was completely terrified, but with the help of Raymond (the driving instructor), I saw a great deal of improvements. His teaching style worked perfectly for me. He's straight forward and knows what's best, so better listen up. Many have been saying that he's impatient, etc., but that's not the case, just as a teacher in school would joke when it's the time to joke, and then be serious when it's the time to stop playing around, especially when he knows that your mistakes are fixable and you can do it. The first time I met Raymond, I thought he was intimidating. He looked so serious but turned out to be extremely friendly. What I appreciated the most was the comfort he'd try to lend. Right before my road test I was wrecked. I was so scared and panicked. My nerves were everywhere but Ray tried his best to calm me down and we spoke about nasty fruits instead lol. I'd definitely recommend this driving school to others. A bit of advice, don't bother listening to the negative reviews, Raymond is a great instructor. Read Less

I went to this driving school back in March 2016 based on the stellar reviews I read, but I must say that I was disappointed to say the least. At first, things were going well, but as the days went by I disliked this driving school more and more. Initially, I scheduled my driving test and had to reschedule because I was no where near prepared to take it, they charged me a $35 fee to reschedule when last I checked the DMV does not charge a fee to reschedule a driving test. Nonetheless, I paid the $35 without any protest. Over the course of the following weeks I was charged a total of $40 extra dollars because of not rescheduling a driving lesson 24 hours in advance. I purchased a package that cost over $500 and I was highly upset that I was made to pay almost $100 extra in fees. I was also made to pay $1 for written driving instructions. Mind you, I bought a package that cost more than $500, those instructions should have been given to me free of charge or included in the price of the packages. I realized I needed more lessons and went with a totally separate driving school because of the cranky old driving instructor, Raymond. I'll admit, I was very afraid of the road and nervous when I was behind the wheel despite the amount of lessons I took ( I bought a 10 lesson package), but I was learning and the sucking of the teeth and the raising of the voice when I did something wrong was not necessary. The driving instructor was not patient with me and became very upset when he realized that I had went to another driving school for additional lessons. I passed my driving test on the first try, but I would not say this instructor had anything to do with that outcome. He made me very nervous on the day of my driving test. When I took one final lesson right before my test he yelled at me and was not encouraging whatsoever. Thank God for the test administrator and the lessons I had taken at the other driving school. This driving school may have been great way back when, but now, in 2016, it is not great at all. Save your money and go elsewhere. Read Less

First of all, I have to admit that I really don't have any interest in driving. The idea of driving scares me because people in the Bronx (and NYC in general) drive as if every one of them has an important meeting with the President that they are running late to. Why deal with all that craziness when $5.50 gets you anywhere you want to go within the city and back? So perhaps this isn't the right kind of temperament someone should have before they get behind the wheel. But because of my father's failing health and the requirements of some jobs I was applying for I had no choice but to take driving lessons. Based upon the reviews I have read I picked this school. It was a mistake. Raymond was a terrible instructor for me. Maybe his aggressively impatient teaching style and garbled speech quality works for some people but it did not work with me. It made me even more nervous than I already was. Here are a sample of the kind of helpful instructions I got from this so called teacher during my second lesson. For the sake of context this conversation took place as I drove out of his illegal parking spot that blocks the pedestrian crosswalk onto Castle Hill avenue at roughly 2pm on a weekday afternoon.Raymond: This is a driving school. What did you expect?Me: Well I expected that we'd go back out to that low traffic area before I got behind the wheel. Raymond: When you get your license and drive there are going to be other cars on the road with you.Me: I know. I just don't know if I am ready to get on the road with so many other drivers.Raymond: This is how I teach. (I missed the next part of his speech because it was garbled to the point of being unintelligible) .....50 hours before they get their license. I am supposed to teach you in four 45 minute classes before you take your test. Me. I agree. I should have more classes. I would take 50 classes if it was possible and affordable.(Once again, all this happened WHILE I WAS DRIVING A VEHICLE MOVING FASTER THAN A BUMPER CAR FOR ONLY THE SECOND TIME IN MY ENTIRE LIFE on a very busy main thoroughfare.)Its one thing to know a lot about something but its something else to be a good teacher of that one thing. You need patience. You need to have the emotional intelligence to understand how well the people around you are reacting to your instructions while possessing the intellectual flexibility to be able to adjust your style of teaching to fit your students learning style. Raymond is capable of none of these things. He's a good driver who has parlayed his driving skills into a career he has neither the intelligence, interpersonal skills or the temperament to do well. I learned how to drive properly in 3 classes. Technically two since the first class was learning how everything operated.  Funny thing is i had 7 classes before with a driving school called globex and they sucked. I didnt know how to turn on a car since the key was always already in and i was also unaware I had blindspots. I was unaware of so much even though i had previous lessons. And i learn faster when theres something to read, so it was really helpful that this school has handouts for steps on how to drive. Also he was very patient and never got upset which is very calming. I took the 3 classes right before my test and i passed it.  I would have probably failed it was left up to globex from Brooklyn. The guy there spoke about everything but driving, which was upsetting since i knew nothing about driving. Im not paying 38$ for a friend and casual conversation, but theres no nice way to say that. This was a really good school and worth the 3 hr commute. Read Less

I went to another driving school before and they were terrible (I will not say their name, but they located in the North Bronx). I didn't feel prepared *at all* for the road test so I didn't even take it. Fast forward a few years and I decide I actually want to do this thing. I scoured the internet and found Raymond. I'm so happy I did. On the school itself, he's the only instructor so he gives you a lot of personal attention. His packages are competitively priced and the car is pretty new (Honda Civic). He also drills you like crazy. If you ever wondered how much to turn in order to complete a good right turn, or how to parallel park perfectly every. single. time, he is your guy. He's so patient, especially with nervous drivers, and he has the most driving experience of any instructor I have ever been to (much longer than I have been alive). I'm so grateful to him for making me memorize the formulas (seriously learn them, remember perfect parallel parking? Formula. Broken-U turn? Formula. Changing Lanes? Formula). He not only taught me how to pass the test but most importantly how drive safely, especially in the city. Before I used to absolutely dread driving and now I can't wait to drive everywhere. Come to this school you will not regret it. Read Less

This is the most incredible experience ever. I don't know why the first person gave a bad review but SCREW YOU! Raymond (the owner and instructor) is awesome! He is amazing at his job. I took 7 lessons and passed my road test THE FIRST TRY, mind you I'VE NEVER EVEN TOUCHED THE WHEEL OF A CAR BEFORE! Listen to him, follow the "six step formula" , study it, & apply it! & trust me you'll feel the same way I feel. If he suggests something then listen!! You won't regret it I promise!!  Super affordable & there are payment plans for those who don't have it all at once. If you are not a residence of the Bronx I still highly recommend the travel because I live in manhattan and was gladly traveling to this wonderful driving school. There was times I got discouraged but he believed in me which gave me the strength to believe in myself. after and before every lesson I was anxious to what was in store and I LOVED that feeling!  It's not too much out of the way he's close to the train and buses! Don't let the image of the school fool you! He's the best at his job (never judge a book by it's cover) . It's not the fanciest school you've ever seen but it's THE BEST ONE YOULL EVER EXPERIENCE. I'm going back for more lessons that's how MAGNIFICENT he is! Thumbs up Raymond!!!!! Read Less

I heard about the Six Step Formula school from two of my friends. I failed my first road test because the instructor simply sucked. His lessons were tacky, there was no essential info that I could have used for my test. Being that I live in Queens, I didn't want to travel all the way to the Bronx just because two of my friends suggested Raymond's school. But once I googled his school, and saw the awesome reviews he had on yahoo, I had to see what he was about. I can honestly say it was worth the travel. God and his formula  is what truly made me pass my second road test. Raymond is no joke. He takes his job seriously and is very professional. Not only does his formula work, but his lessons are cheap considering what other schools ask for.I got my licence woot woot! Read Less

I recently used this driving school based on the stellar reviews I read, but  I must say that I was disappointed to say the least. Mind you, I bought a package that cost more than $500, those instructions should have been given to me free of charge or included in the price of the packages.I realized I needed more lessons and went with a totally separate driving school because of the cranky old driving instructor, Raymond. Read Less

Read Less

Let me start by saying that I had never been behind the wheel before and Raymond literally taught me how to drive in one week. I am forever grateful to him and the amount of patience he had with me. I tried to get away with not purchasing his formulas, but trust me when I tell you they really help! Get them and memorize them as early as possible and you're sure to pass you road test. I was extremely nervous and jittery and Raymond gave me the skills and confidence I needed to pass my test and to continue to practice safe driving. Thank you Raymond!!

Read Less
