The staff are super friendly, always calling to remind you of your appointment times. They didn't need payment in advance - I paid for my lesson on the day I had it and my road test rental the same day as the lesson, which was the next business day. The instruction was awesome - I was warned what to be cautious of and what to look out for. Chiquita was amazing - so personable and friendly, she helped me forget my nerves while we were in line for my road test - which I passed first go. I have mixed feelings about this school because some staff are excellent and some are terrible. The short version is stick with Jerry and avoid Chiquita and Carlo (even if he is just taking you to the road test).Let me start with the good. My instructor Jerry is professional and patient. He gives very clear direction and constructive criticism.  He told me when I was ready for the test. I went from never drive on the street to comfortable driving on my own. Excellent customer service.Now the bad. I had another instructor whose name is Chiquita before Jerry. I can tell that she was itching to get on her phone even on my first ever lesson. On the second lesson, she was talking and playing games on the phone so I felt like I was on my own. How could you trust a student whose driving for the second time in her life to be completely responsible for other people's safety on the road? I wasn't comfortable with that. Of course she didn't give much feedback because she wasn't paying attention.Carlos is the person who took me to my road test. Two words - VERY RUDE. He was driving with one hand on his phone the whole time, demonstrating exactly what not to do. The only thing I asked was to push the button to defog because the windows are too foggy. I asked politely and he raised his hand as if to tell me shut up and continue to talk on the phone with Chiquita. I had to practically beg 4 times before he turn that on. Took my road test in new Rochelle was pretty early got my exam done even before scheduled time cause we were second in line. Passed my exam on first try. This school is really amazing! They help you set up your appointment so easily and are honest with you whether you are ready for the test or not. The instructors know what they are talking about and keep in contact with you during your time with them. Reminders and all. I passed my road test on my first try. I give this place 3 out of 5 stars because I had an excellent instructor, I learnt how to be a defensive driver. However, for the road test it was based in Yonkers. I've done all my practices driving around Pelham parkway area which is fine but I feel that I should've been prepped to drive in the area I'm going to do the road test. So to others who are looking to get their license, please schedule your classes based on the road test sites according to your zip code and make sure they do driving lessons in an area that will be doing the road test so you are more familiar with the roads in that area. Is a great driving school over all. I passed it on my second chance, and to be honest I did random lessons instead of a plan that way I can practice more as the day approached. I suggest to take a lesson with Jerry, he will help you and tell you weather or not you may need more lessons. I did about 5-6 lessons before taking the lesson. I was told I needed more practice but I did not want to wait so I just went for it and I passed. I felt ready. we are all different that's why I think you should still go to this driving school if you are having issues with passing the road test go to this driving school. it will help you out!!Good Luck!! I had a pretty horrible instructor. The school itself was a little hood, but I could tolerate it as much of the things in the bronx are. But the instructor should be fired, he didn't teach me anything, and I am honestly really upset at myself for not changing schools quickly enough. I failed my 1st attempt. on the day of my road test an instructor by the name of Jerry helped me, and was fantastic. I really really wish I had him the entire time. if you do have to go here, see Jerry. But if you get Anthony I highly recommend to see someone else, as he's not a good teacher. For my 2nd attempt at my license I will be going elsewhere. Even though this is around the corner from my house, I'm going to try somewhere where they care for the students better. Read Less

I went to Coldwells driving school before coming here. I took a 10 lesson package deal for about $400. My instructor there was who I will not name was very strict, but he did teach me how to drive and I learned well from him. I took my road test with them and failed my first time. I never went back because I told them I wanted my road test to be scheduled at Havemeyer and they scheduled my road test for New Rochelle. I was pissed and complained but they did nothing about it, so I took my road test where they wanted me to and I didn't feel comfortable and failed. Thats why I came here to Pelham Driving School and boy was it a good choice, I payed to rent the car to take the road test and failed at Havemeyer, this was my second time failing my road test. The instructor who drove me there told me take one lesson with me and try again, his name was Jerry god bless him a sweet friendly very nice Italian man. I reschedule my road test for a third time and it was at Havemeyer, I took my lesson with Jerry a week before my test he was awesome very knowledgeable but most importantly he made you feel relaxed and if you made a mistake he told you calmly how not to make that same mistake again, he was really great. I would recommend anyone who plans on coming here to take driving lessons to request Jerry as their instructor. Anyway I passed my road test on my third try, gave Jerry a big hug and could not be happier. The schools receptionist Roxanne is also so sweet and easy to talk to very professional. I signed up for the 5-hr class, 5 driving lessons and road test package and it was well worth it! The rates are very reasonable and they get you a road test appointment as soon as you complete your 5-hr class which takes the pressure off of having to do it yourself. I took lessons with Chiquita and she was an incredible teacher. She is very patient and made me feel comfortable even when I made mistakes.  I've taken the road test twice before as a teen and failed. I was convinced I'd never drive, but Chiquita proved otherwise. Thanks to her, I felt confident when I took the road test and passed on 8/19!  Great driving school! Read Less

The instructors Jerry, Anthony and Chiquita were all very fun and patient with my nervousness. The whole staff even Roxy and Dee were all pleasant to work with and now I have my license. I already knew how to drive because of my parents but I wanted "official" lessons so I signed up for 5 classes with this place. I didn't like the location of this place (in a backroom upstairs in a sketchy ass building)... but I quickly got over that when I started driving with one of the instructors. She quickly let me take the wheel and drive where ever I wanted to. She was very efficient in teaching me 3 point turns and parking (something I have never done before prior to the lessons). I later received compliments on both of these from the person I took my drivers test with.I liked the instructor but there were a few instances where she just stayed talking on the phone. I understand you have kids and baby daddy problems, but don't take 30 out of my 45 minutes to scream at your teenagers. At least call them back when you're done with me. After reading the great reviews here, I was really disappointed in this school. My driving teacher was Jerry and while he knows a lot about teaching, he yells and micromanages through the entire process and talks through the entire process. He also scolded me if I didn't practice during the week (I have no car!) and for not taking extra lessons as if he would be the one paying for it. Jerry is bad for this driving school. He's uptight, doesn't listen and seems to have a chip on his shoulder about something. On one occasion Anthony was my instructor (for some reason Jerry the yeller is in demand) and he's much quieter than Jerry but is basically pointless. A total waste of money. Read Less

i was a new driviner and only drived twice in a parking lot. i took only the five lesson package with the five hour class included. in about three weeks of learning with them, i passed on my first attempt. the instructors were really patients and nice. they never screamed when a mistake was made. i was nervous but i passed and the money went to a good cost. i think all new drivers should go to this driving school. I took several classes with this school on May and June. I paid a lot of money. I failed my road test miserably. Although these instructor are very respectful and friendly; some of them do not dedicate the energy and patient needed to teach somebody how to drive. If you decide to go to this school to learn how to drive, pick Anthony (if he still working there). He is very professional and patient. He is a very quiet person too, do not expect him to have a conversation with you while driving. He puts a lot of dedication on what he does. On the other hand;. Jerry? let me tell you. I used to take classes with him on Saturdays;and in the middle of the lesson, he used to make me stop at a coffee shop so he can buy his breakfast. This man would then pick up his cell phone (while the lesson was still going on) to speak with his Spanish girlfriend. Finally, he would stop by the gas station. He will always finish my lesson early. I could not take it anymore. Chiquita; she is a good instructor but, on a couple of occasions she will call me to re-schedule the lesson minutes before the lessons were scheduled to commence. There were times that she did not even bothered to call me to informed me that the lesson for that particular day was canceled. There was an occassion that I paid for a taxi to take me to the driving school so I could make it on time for my lesson; and minutes later, I received a phone call from Chiquita indicating me that the lesson was canceled. Furthermore, I paid all of my lessons in full. When I left, they still owed me two more lessons. I called to re-schedule them but, I was told by Chiquita that they did not have any more space to place me. I felt like I was robbed. I left them keep the money. I then decided to try another school.
