My best friend went to haverford and graduated this past May. She misses it so much and realized that she took the campus and college life for granted. I was able to visit her at haverford in April 2014 and March of this year. I wasn't expecting much when coming to visit in 2014 but man I fell in love and wished I went here. However I probably still wouldn't have applied either as a prospective or transfer student since haverford doesn't really have the major I originally did which was business accounting. And they also don't have the human services major which is what i am doing now. Being from Southern California, colleges don't like this: New England style buildings. I guess people from east coast love our beaches and weather though. I personally love the weather in so cal and have to remind myself I would HATE the winter on the east coast and that I came to visit at a pretty good time. I would hate not being able to really drive or go anywhere during the winter cuz of being snowed in. In so cal, the only thing I have to worry about is rain. I love New England style buildings and wish I can have the best of both worlds. Seriously, colleges don't look like haverford or Bryn mawr over here in California.I really like how haverford has an honor code and it seems like many students follow it. Finals aren't proctored by anyone, the RAs (I forgot what they are called at haverford) aren't present with the students in the residence halls, you can't talk about your grades with other students, and can take exams home and promise not to cheat. Both at community college and CSUF (where I'm at now) aren't like that and majority of schools aren't. Oh and students even leave their backpacks alone and go do something or prop their door open in their dorm (at least my friend and her suite mates did that) and I'm like if I did that at my school, know doubt my things would get stolen. But my friend told that there has been a couple instances or so where strangers outside the campus get into the dorms and steal things. It is also interesting that when people in housing vote on the bathrooms being separate gender or not, if not everyone votes the same thing, they have to come to an agreement that everyone is comfortable with. All part of the honor code.I really like how students know when to be serious here. The library which I believe use to be a church (and is BEAUTIFUL) is so quiet on ALL of the floors. At my school the floors have quiet and loud levels. I liked how the majority of the students don't party during the weekday and usually just the weekend. Then on Sunday it is literally dead silent the whole day cuz everyone is studying or doing hw. I have seen students at my school dress really nice during the week looking like they are maybe going to a party. Maybe they do study and do well in school but can't help but wonder. I guess I am just very serious about my studies. It is cool that the train is nearby so you can take it to the city or even airport. No transportation like that in southern ca.I love sitting inside the dining hall. Feels like I am eating somewhere in the mountains. Their breakfast/brunch is the best at haverford. I can see the food getting tiring after a while but they are improving on their food though. I think Bryn mawr's dining hall is better. The dorms are ok. Since they are old (or at least the ones I was in) there is no AC and no stairs. I feel it would be a good idea to add elevators to ALL the buildings in general eventually cuz there is only stairs and people with disabilities have to have a way to get to the different floors.I wish haverford had graduate programs cuz I would apply if they did and had my program. I doubt they would have the program that I want to do though. I looked into Bryn mawr graduate programs but they don't have the program I want. Guess I can't go to grad school out here since I really don't want to live in the city if I went to upenn or in the middle of nowhere at penn state. Maybe I will try to talk my kids into applying in the future so I have an excuse to come back and visit ;) seriously love being here though and just relaxing in the beautiful creation. Wish haverford was close by so I can take a walk there. So sad I won't be able to visit this school year since my friend graduated Nevertheless even though I wish I can be at haverford I really love the school I'm at currently, and feel that I am learning a lot outside of the class with different resources, events, and clubs they have and getting a very good education with experience through internships. I just wish CSUF had New England style buildings.Oh and my friend doesn't have to pay back any loans. She told me they changed it now but when she was there, they asked how much she and her family could pay and haverford filled the rest with financial aid (work study and maybe grants but can't remember that part)I'd recommend checking this school out :) Read Less

This is solely for the track part of it, nothing educational I can share with you guys.  Well scratch that, I've got a knowledge bomb for you.  If you ever want to clear your mind I suggest taking a good walk around the campus or even their track. You may be going in a big loop, a constant right or left turn on how you approach it, but it is a stress reliever. You are surrounded by open fields, tennis courts along with a baseball field , where you'd see a quick game or even games being played. Don't worry though, you'll see it again when you're walking or running back around again. It truly is a stress reliever, so break away from the gym if the weather is gorgeous out. You have maybe 8 months out of the year to enjoy being outside before winter sets in. So in closing you know you want to break away that gym. A break from that sweat mixed with the not so subtle hints of mildew types of aroma dancing around in that gym and take in the open air.  Class over, get outside and enjoy it . Read Less

I visited Haverford College last Sunday with my brothers family while he attended his Sunday Morning Baseball game there. I really know nothing about the place and this review is just from walking the grounds and being out at the baseball fields. As we pulled into the grove we passed a small observatory on our right and parked close to it. The buildings are old and are old made with the classic stonework that's so prevalent throughout PA. We walked around the beautifully manicured grounds and took some pictures before heading over to the fields for the game. The baseball fields were also very nice, much better than a standard public field with large dugouts and well maintained fields. I can see why my brothers team likes playing here. The fields are excellent. I'd love to check out the Observatory at some future date. According to the Strawbridge Observatory website they have 12-inch and 16-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes which are actively used. Sounds awesome! Read Less

Best place in the area for a jog or walk, the 2.2 mile loop around the beautiful Haverford College (also an arboretum) will invigorate mind and body.  The trail is closed to bikes but canines on a leash are welcome.  There is a spacious, free visitor lot (do NOT park elsewhere or you risk a tow) as well as adjacent metered street parking.  Almost all the trail is on natural surfaces which will be much easier on your body as you slog out the miles in the quixotic attempt to be slim, fit, and shredded.  Eh, you should probably just buy bigger shirts. I only know about the aesthetics of the campus since I never took classes here, but it really is beautiful.  I love walking my dog here because he and I can people and dog watch and there are lots of really cool trails.  The duck pond is also great because its fun to feed the ducks, but also because there are goldfish and catfish in the pond!  I've been to the campus many times though.  Whenever, my brother used to have little league baseball try outs, we would go to the gym.  Also, I used to do a julien krinsky day camp here when I was little - did yoga, acting, self defense, painting, ceramics, stuff like that... The students have always been very friendly and outgoing. Read Less

Haverford was originally my first choice college, but I got waitlisted and then didn't get in.  I still have positive feelings about this school though--it's understandable that they did not admit me, because my academic record was marginal.  I decided to defer my college for a year, and rather than re-apply, I decided to go to Oberlin College.  Some years later, I moved to Philly, and became friends with a number of Haverford students, and got to know the school a little better, along with other schools in the region. This school has a beautiful, calm campus, and lots of resources.  The dining hall, residence halls, and various campus facilities are all very good.  It's a pleasant school where students have a very good experience. The #1 downside that I've heard of is that students here get worse financial aid packages than at other similar schools.  I know many students who chose not to come here because they could not afford it--whereas I knew fewer students like this at Oberlin, where I went.Haverford is often compared to Swarthmore, but as far as I'm concerned, the two schools are like night and day.  I definitely gravitate more towards Haverford; the students at Swarthmore seemed jaded to me, and they seemed to place greater importance on grades and achievement, something I found off-putting.  Students at Haverford seemed more down-to-earth and happier. While Oberlin and Haverford are similar (I think much more than either school is to Swarthmore), they are different in certain ways.  Haverford has less obnoxious negativity.  The atmosphere there is a lot more toned down and respectful.  At Oberlin, there is some outright extremism, in the form of left-wing activism, and while I've heard rumors of the rare thing like this happening at Haverford, I think it's outside the bounds of what the school normally is like.On the other hand, Haverford can be a bit "vanilla" at times.  The students there seem consistently sweet and smart, a combination which I really like, but it lacks the outright zaniness that some other schools have.  One of my friends from high school went here and I heard this sort of complaint about it from him.  I also have heard Haverford students complain about other students disappearing into their work--something that I don't think happened as much at Oberlin.  The campus has a very quiet feel, not as lively as a lot of campuses of similar size.Haverford is also compared to Bryn Mawr and I also think those schools are more similar to each other...I think Bryn Mawr is a bit zanier and more folksy.  Sorry, zany, folksy guys!I want to mention two last upsides and downsides of this school: one, it's right next to the Norristown High Speed Line, giving easy access to Philly via Upper Darby, via transit that is much cheaper than the Regional Rail.  This is a huge asset!  It also makes it easy to travel to U. Penn (or Drexel) via transit, as the 40th/34th street MFL stations are closer to campus than the 30th street regional rail station.  This makes Haverford much more accessible to Philly, especially West Philly, than Swarthmore or even Bryn Mawr. The last issue, a little thing that I think reflects poorly on the school...I really wish Haverford would stop using chemicals to treat their grass.  I don't care if most other schools do it...it's unnecessary, and I think it makes the school look bad to people like me who care about substance (ecological responsibility, biodiversity) over appearance (especially the appearance of sterile uniformity). I've lived smack next door to this college for years.  Never been disturbed by any partying, never found an empty beer can on my front lawn, in runs through their nature trail I've only encountered really exemplary individuals (and their dogs)  -- this is a beautiful campus with a rich intellectual history.  The students you run into are invariably polite and well spoken.  The difference between this and Villanova is like day and night. I did go to Haverford. And now that I live 3,000 miles away, I will bask in Haverford's nostalgia glow via yelp. Haverford is truly an exceptional place -- for it's students and for other community members. Thank you, Jake P, for mentioning that you found Haverford students warm and welcoming. It was an ongoing concern when I was there: how well we responded to outside community members on campus. I am truly glad to hear that we didn't appear to be the huge xenophobic pricks that some of us thought me might appear to be. Haverford's campus is beautiful. As Modibo S, noted, the duck pond is a great picnic spot if you can weather all of the duck poop. On a nice day Haverford is glorious, in a restrained way so characteristic of us Quakers. And if you are looking for a stellar liberal arts education, look no further, my friend! I do have my gripes with the college (what student doesn't) but I am quite convinced that I would not have received a better education anywhere in the world. You might wonder how I could make such a sweeping, uninformed assumption.... (I have no answer). Read Less

I called these guys in week advance and scheduled an appointment to give my road test. They told me over the phone that I can directly go to DMV to meet them and I can give test after some practise. I called them on the day that I wanted to give road test to let them know that I'm going to DMV office. He told me that he can't see my appointment in his schedule and doesn't have time. I was totally frustated as they confirmed in one week advance and I took a day off also. I finally had to call some other driving school and gave test. That guy was really good. I passed the test after 20 mins practise. Read Less

Read Less
