Nevada Desert Truck Driving School LTD

Sparks, Nevada
General Info
Look in the newspaper ...Help Wanted Ads...There are always truck driver jobs, and the pay is good. Problem is, you need a commercial driver’s license, or CDL, to legally drive a semi-truck, or other heavy vehicle. Both employers and federal and state laws require a certain minimum amount of training in order to be a truck driver.

Wow!! It is so clear that you do not know what you are talking about at all. Apparently you did not do any search either. For one the DMV can and does test more than one person a day. As in this case you are referring to, which PROVES Desert Trucking is not exaggerating when they say almost 100% success. Get your facts straight before you bad mouth good people. The good reviews are all different people, actual real people, not using a fake name like fleetwood whatever or the other one posted 1 yr later being the same guy but different fake names. Jealous of Desert. It is hard times for a lot of people, and maybe on occasions a student might sleep there. But do you know why..... No, you don't cause if you did you would know they are there because they live in Yerington, Ely or somewhere far away and they can't afford the gas to drive back and forth or hotel room. Helping someone to improve their education so they can get a better job? What is bad or disgusting in that?? Guaranteed once they get their CDL they are gone the same day and working shortly after that too. No, the trucks may not be new, do you know how much it costs to own or maintain a truck or what the wear and tear the students do, no, you do not. All I can say is that everyday I had the opportunity to practice my skills if I wanted and when I got my permit, everyday I drove on the streets and freeway. I am Michelle94 I got my CDL the 20th of December, along with other fellow students passing the test the same day, *footnote so there's no misunderstanding* we went at different times on the same day. I still stand behind Desert, all instructors have current CDL's(no DUI'S) and are truly good people. So few good people in the world any more and sad to see others try to portray them otherwise. For the record I was not asked or told by Jimmy or anyone else to re-post anything I couldn't go without saying anything cause I WAS there and common since will tell you more than one person tests at DMV and they pass. I got a saying "Stand up for what is right, even if you stand alone" Thank you again Jimmy and Ron for teaching me and sharing your knowledge. Read Less

Wow! It is pretty clear all the positive reviews are written by Desert under different user names. Frequently on the same day! There are many CDL training schools in our area and when I did reserch for myself about attending Desert I was horrified to discover they were able to still train people after their Nevada DMV school lic. was suspended for several months due to fraud. I still went out and looked and found a run down office with dilapitated trucks. The owner was not only desperate for my money and offering discounts when I said I would think about it, but I think he lives in the office. Two weeks later he called me back to see if I wanted to sign up, but I had already started at another school. True to form he started to bad mouth the school I was at, but everything worked out just fine. I graduated in three weeks and got a job at the Washoe County School District driving a bus. My advise to anyone interested to going to a driving school is to actually meet the staff, see the facility, and look at their buses/trucks. Read Less

I just passed my CDL test today, and it is the greatest feeling. Going to Desert Trucking is the only school to go to, there is no rush for you to complete or to test. You test when YOU are ready to, and if you fail once or twice you do not get kicked out. Unlike the other schools, you get behind the wheel on your first day. You have the choice to practice your skills or to watching educational videos. Others school you don't get to drive for weeks and the instructor(owner) doesn't even have his CDL, too many DUI's. If you can only come in once or twice a week it's ok or only on weekends is fine too. At Desert Trucking School the staff is great, and they all actually care about the students. The owner Jimmy has years and years of experience, and he teaches everything you will ever need to know about trucking. He takes pride in his trucks and his students and as far as I know every student that has come here left with their CDL's. My enrollment number was 1,600, so before me 1,599 students had received their CDL's. Ron is another instructor there who also has years and years of trucking experience, he will take you step by step on your skills, and make you work on your weak points. I do not think I could of come this far and feel so confident with my skills and driving if I had went anywhere else. The cost is very reasonable for all that comes with it. In all honesty Jimmy could and should be charging more for his class, I've heard him say several times "He's in it for the students." And it shows when students from the other schools leave their school to start at Desert Trucking, I met 4 or 5 just while I was there. The bad reviews that are on this page comes from another competitor school, trying to make Desert look bad. That's just sad....... so all I can say is check out all the schools, no one beats Desert Trucking in price, trained and licensed instructors, getting in the truck same day and pretty much guaranteed you'll get you CDL. How fast you get it is left up to you. Thank you Jimmy and Ron!!!!!!! Read Less

I don't know what that Kenworthbill is talking about, I went to Desert after checking out 2 other schools in the area and I found Desert to way surpass all the others. The staff was great, they go over and beyond to make sure you have everything you need to be sucessful before you graduate out of their school. Their goal is to put the best drivers out on the road. While I was attending school at Desert they had 3 different Trucking companys show up for recruiting and talking to the recruiters they made it very clear that this was their favorite school in the area because of the quality of drivers they put out. My husband went to Nevada truck school and was totally put off by them, he felt they misrepresented theirselves. When he graduated from their school he received a class A licences with restrictions only allowing him to drive an automatic truck, then they told him for more money they could get that restriction lifted. He ended up going to Desert to get the restriction lifted and the owner (Jimmy) put him through the class at no cost. Desert is truely a great school and they have no hidden costs what so ever. I would recommend them to anybody who is serious about driving truck. Read Less
