While it was fun to be in a “classroom” with chalkboards and a dusty VHS TV again, saying that this place is outdated is a complete understatement. The reception desk is nice and new while the classroom is a dump, with cracked walls and folding tables. I did half of my lessons through my school’s partnership with Tanner City, and the rest last year over Thanksgiving break. The lessons felt rushed and while my teacher was very friendly, I’ve heard lots of horror stories about tanner and am glad I did. I won’t be coming here and wasting more money on lessons. Read Less

I understand that yelp is usually full of angry customers, but on this occasion, do yourself a favor, and listen to all the negative reviews of Tanner City. The only good thing I can say is that my instructor (Christine) was very nice. Other than that, this business is managed very poorly. The process of getting a license through Tanner City is rushed and disorganized. My testing date was changed multiple times. I understand that some things are out of the auto school's hands and more involved with the registry, but when you cram 20 students into one night of testing, that's just being greedy. It is impossible to get in contact with the school, and their prices are ridiculous. Instead of having a Saturday morning test (one of the reasons I went through an auto school), my test was rescheduled for a Monday night when it was rainy and dark. I waited close to 2 hours to take my test and sat in a room panicking. Not to mention that when you get in the car, you will be tested 3 students at a time. If I am paying 100+ dollars, the least the school can do is not pack the vehicle like a clown car. I am not sure how Tanner City is still in business, honestly. I went to Ringer's Auto School after failing at Tanner City, and the experience was seamless. I would recommend calling Michelle at Ringer's 100x over. I only wish I had listened to the negative reviews and went to anywhere but Tanner City sooner! Read Less

Everyone in Peabody goes to tanner city auto school, because it's local, but the cost is $700 for a one week class that doesn't help at all. Then the road lessons take at least 2 weeks to schedule (if I were to call right now, I wouldn't get a lesson for another 2 weeks). So it takes MONTHS to finish all of the required lessons and observations. And all you do in the lessons is drive to the next kids house and drive around their neighborhood (usually less than an hour of driving). TWO TIMES they canceled on me; one of those times they didn't even call me but they never showed up. Not to mention they don't teach you how to drive in rain, in the dark, when it's foggy, etc. they only have lessons during the day usually before dark and it's really rare you will ever get a lesson to learn how to drive at night. They basically just teach u the bare minimum to pass the test but you don't learn anything helpful for driving in different conditions. I just took my road test today (took 3 weeks to book it) and the only way u can fail the test is if you have a dangerous maneuver OR if they check off 3 boxes. The DMV guy checked off 1 box for "stopping uneccesarily" and failed me for it. It was a four way intersection and I stopped to let the first person go, and he failed me. The road lesson teachers tell you to stop no matter what in order to be safe incase someone blows a stop sign, and this guy failed me for it! Nothing about it was a "dangerous maneuver" and a police officer said they have receive many calls about tanner city failing kids that didn't deserve to be failed. There were 30 kids today, and the guy passed 2 of them. It's ridiculous, go through another school, this place sucks. All the money you pay for the classes, and you still HAVE to pay $100 to take the test and use their car even if you already have one. It's just a giant scheme to get more money out of you. They also tried telling me I owed them another $60 for 2 road lessons that I never took. They told me friend she owed them $80. It's not worth the time or the arguments and definitely not the frustration. The classrooms are dirty, in the summer time the AC in the west school is broken so people melt to death, the teachers all make their own schedules and decide when they FEEL like driving so that's a bigggg reason why it takes so long to finish anything. Wish I could give this place -5 stars. I took my test again and I passed, but the cost was $70 this time and they said I have to pay the registry the other $30 separate. Well today I went to the RMV to pay it and get my physical license, and they said tanner city never paid them my money for the tests and I had to pay the registry $120 to make up for it. The school said they would use the money for the fees and they never did. Read Less

Web page prominently proclaims "Total Cost $700.00 ($650 if paid in full up front)".My card was charged $92.00 more than that however, when enrolling. The charge went through as $742.00 and not $650.00. I did approve the higher amount but only after my calls, and emailed question, went unanswered. I asked if I could avoid the surprise and not-mentioned $42.00 "checkout-screen" charge by paying on the first day of lessons...but they did not answer. I did not want to miss out on the $50 discount so I went ahead and paid, $742.00.Nobody called to offer me the discount so I called again and left a message. they called back and said they would apply the $50 as a credit toward upcoming RMV fees. DO NOT go here. I would highly reccomend that you do not suggest your child, young teen, even an adult to go to this school/road test. First of all..I had lessons and they do not teach proper driving techniques that you will be tested on. Second, I was scheduled for a 4:44pm test, and went roughly around 7:00 at night after waiting in a crowded classroom. The instructor I had was very rude, and she had little to no patience, and also made me uncomfortable for being a road examiner. I can not stress enough how terrible this school is. I have never been so disrespected in my life. I dont expect a perfect instructor, but atleast a polite one. My instructor was extremely rude beyond belief, and was very impatient with me. She kept rolling her eyes and had the nerve to have me drive her to 7-eleven so she could get herself chips and eat them in the car(which isn't really a big deal to me but she took 10 minutes, not exaggerating). After a week of classroom, my son had his road hours. During his ""hour"" he stopped for the driving teacher to yell at her son as she saw him out on his bike, picked up a pizza for her dinner, told us nightly of her personal calls while he was driving..and maybe a couple of times actually drove an hour. My son had ha his permit for 1 1/2 yrs and the first one had been ruined in the wash so he laminated the 2nd. Noone said anything about that at all. the day before he was to go on the road test we went to prepay his licence and all the man at the dmv said was ""good luck with that"" if he said then - you need to get a new one..the officer wont be able to stamp this or whatever..I would have!! no, they pick him up at 8 a.m and i watch as my son is ridiculed in front of a car of kids about the laminate and after 10 minutes at least he walks back in the house..can't do it today. This wasn't his fault. i think for the amount of money it costs for this dumpy room and pleasant babysitters, they would at least check everything for him before this day and help him to have things in order? I don't know alternatives, and maybe they're all the same, but if that's true~We should really be looking into how our children are learning about one of the most important steps they take.getting behind a wheel! In my case my child has driven with his permit for over a year and had extensive experience in all conditions and all roads, but i was surprised to see that most of the others were just at the age and jumping right into this school with little or no experience in driving . With nothing more than what Tanner gives, The road is a scarey place . Read Less
