I wish I could say I had a great experience here! I have had MULTIPLE issues! We had used them many many years ago, so naturally when my son was about to drive we went there! I looked on YELP and saw all the negative reviews. So when I went to sign up I mentioned that. I was told they were "working on the issues"! We laughed and I promised to write a good review when we were done! After requesting to speak to an owner I was told that I can't and that when the Manager gets back in town she will call me! Classroom sessions seemed fine. I don't understand why my daughter has to have 10 hours of behind the wheel training with ME before scheduling her first session with Excel. I am paying YOU to teach her to drive. If I have to do it myself, what good is Excel? Read Less

My son attended the western springs location and they don't know what the hell their doing.  Try and find another school please.  The behind the wheel instructor left my son half way through and never finished. I had to take over because excel never told me he had left excel. Two years later we get a text saying " hi this is your behind the wheel instructor call me so we can arrange a time" the school never send his information to Springfield. I am giving them a 1 for today bc of what i just experienced. The overall program and experience up to today was wonderful; we loved the location, the flexibility, the class room teachers and the driving instructor. However, the most important/crucial part is where they fell short and now my child may not be able to take her drivers test on her 16th birthday. Turns out they never sent confirmation of completion of the course to the state (this process takes 2-3 weeks).  I noticed i had not received confirmation in the mail so i called excel this morning and spoke to a young woman who told me they sent it out in July and i just needed to be patient; "it should all be good in the next day or so". I contacted the State to see if they had any additional information and they said they had not received anything from excel at this time. This caused me to call excel back and ask for an exact day it was sent. After being on hold i get the news that they forgot to send it out. "We are so sorry, one hand was not working with the other hand but we will send it out today. it only takes 2-3 weeks to process". My daughters birthday is this Thursday (3 days away). I am beyond upset and disappointed. My daughter is going to be crushed; as would I had this happened to me when i was a teenager. How do you justify that mistake and the fact that an employee lied and said it was send when in fact it never was???  Yes, it is human error and yes the 2nd woman was super sweet and felt bad but how does that help me?   In the end they failed to do the most important part of their job and now my child (who is a junior and all her friends have been driving over a year) has to wait another 2-3 weeks. extremely upsetting. My both kids did their driving lessons from Excel Driving School and they both loved it. No problems what so ever and very easy to communicate with office and driver Instructurs. Both my kids are very good drivers and driving for 3 years. Not very often people would hear from mothers that their kids drive better then them. I totally give credit to Excel Driving School. Horrible experience, completely understaffed, finally when my daughter was able to get drives in they assured me that paperwork was sent and that everything was fine. I took a day off on Friday so she could get her license.... but surprise, surprise the paperwork was not sent. Decided to drive out to Exel's main office in Naperville. I enrolled for a 6 hours +additional 1 1/2 hours for a driving lesson for me to get my driver's license. I would recommend this company as they have a great customer service and driving instructor. And would highly recommend Mr.LEO as he is a very patient and a good teacher. I appreciate all the driving techniques he taught me. I never drove in my whole life and Its my first time to take the driving test and with the help of Mr.Leo from excel driving school I passed my driving test and finally have my license :) Again thank you and keep up the good work :)Happy former student driver here Read Less

I went here over the summer for the adult behind the wheel program. When I met my driving instructor he asked where my payment was. I asked him if they would accept my debit card and he said that I had to pay with either cash or check. I told him that I did not have either of those forms of payment on me. I asked him if I could pay them next time because I did not know of this. He said it was fine however there was never a next time because after the lesson was over he told me to text him next week for available openings which I thought was weird. I texted him anyway and he would always come up with some kind of excuse such as being overbooked already, being sick, or pushing off until the next following week. I decided enough was enough and switched to EDS driving school where I actually had a great experience. Several months later they are now harassing me for the unpaid lesson. I would not recommend this driving school to anyone. Very poor service, rude and unreliable drivers. Instructor was more interested in talking about his personal life that any actual teaching. Then the "mechanics" course included in the high fee was a total joke, I could have taught more about car maintenance, and I had to because they did not show anything of any relevamce to a teen. I got my permit in June and then called excel driving school for the 6 hour adult driving package I was not happy with my driving instructor he didn't really give me incouragement that I could drive I finished my 6hrs like in August didn't really get a lot of good advise of how to correct my mistakes that I made during my driving lessons so I was very unsatisfied with my instructor so later on I searched for another driving school on line I found nova driving school  in the city I should have gone to them first they are great they help you with everything even take you to the DMV for you to take the driving test in there car my driving instructor was very nice from the beginning of my first lesson I felt very comfortable with him and he was  very patient I got my drivers license on my second time I went to take my road test would recommend nova driving school to anyone Read Less

My son was assigned Jane out of the St. Charles office and she was really incredible! Not only did my son really like her but I appreciated as a parent that she would call me after every drivie time to give me an idea on how he did, or what we should work on. Instruction time is boring, and they are always letting students out early. Hands on driving time is good. But the big issue is communication. They did not let anyone know if they were open during a snow storm. My student was missing paperwork and we were not told until months later, they simply did not send certification into the state. She was there over a dozen times, and not once did anyone think to mention they needed something. Then it turns out it was something we HAD turned in and they had misplaced. I would not use Excel driving school.  They have promised to call me 3 times to set up my daughter for driving.  They still have not called over a period of a month. They make promises that the driving instructor will call to set up times to begin driving, and the instructor never calls.  They seem to be too busy to actually do what you have paid for them to do. I have 2 other children that will be learning to drive, and we will NOT be using Excel.  If you have other choices in your area for driving school, choose those. One of the worst experience I have ever had with any business. They are only looking for money and they do not care about your safety or have any importance for your time. They will keep you waiting for months and months before you are done with your mere 6 driving lessons. The driving school offers very flexible classroom lessons, lots of them! so I thought it's great, my child can get the license fast. Please be aware that is NOT true at all! they do not have enough road instructors. At least not enough to cover all the kids that are taking the classroom lessons. My kid waited, waited and waited for the road instructions. Once you get an instructor, even if he/she calls you back within the next day or so, it doesn't mean you get a lesson time scheduled. We waited 3-4 weeks for the first lesson, it was 2-3 weeks for the next lesson. For the spring break or any holiday, don't expect to schedule a lesson even few weeks ahead!  Since there is no centralized scheduling, so you basically are at the mercy of the assigned instructor on when he/she will call you back. It was so inefficient and it was a REAL pain to schedule or change the road instruction lesson time.The service in the office was also not very helpful. I have visited the office twice  to complain and look for other options. They basically direct you to the instructors, no additional help at all.  Overall, It has been a very frustrating experience for me and my child. Read Less

We had a disastrous experience with the Excel driving school located South of the Naperville North High School. Our son enrolled in the Summer program. And now it's October and still has not sit behind the wheel and operate a single session of road test. Excel seems to be happy with taking 3 time the cost compared with school and run with it. They kept on playing phone tag with us. They promised to call us within a week, but they seems to be overbooking their instructor and never call us back. The latest is Coach Floyd, which called us 3 weeks ago and never got us back. When we press them, they said this is their policy that they don't "rush" the schedule like the school does. Anyone who finish within a year is "good". This is ridiculous as I don;t believe stretching this program so long would have any benefit to the kids. Avoid this private driving program and stick with the one offered by school.Read Less

OK LT students anxious to take that life altering drivers ed class! Here's a tip. Do not pick up the phone and call Excel Driving school based in Naperville with an outlet office in Western Springs. Oh so convenient to LT but DO NOT CALL! . Go anywhere but....Our son finished the classroom part in early July in Western Springs in the garden market. The class is paid in full. We were told an instructor would be calling shortly to complete the 6 hours of drive time necessar...y before he receives his drivers license. Today was the 7th call I can remember making to schedule his actual in vehicle driving. Here are a few of the more hilarious reasons why we have yet to meet an instructor. #1 The instructor's paper work is at the state of Ilinois and it is their fault we can't get him approved, #2 The instructor we hired left to teach highschool.#3. The instructor we hired...(trust me this is the same guy!!) is going into emergency foot I mean leg, I mean knee surgery. #4. I'll call you right back....AHH! #5. Call us in two weeks to check the progress. Progress report = NOTHING. #6. We have no voice mail. #7. Oh the manager was just here but he went into the storage room. I called back 2 hours later and after leaving my name and number they say he is not in today. Ok three months later and the manager did indeed call back today. Perhaps they finally figured out I'm just not going away... Nothing is resolved. No drivers, no date to drive yet. My review for this business is a 0. No follow up, no indication things will improve, no communication. And oh wait, I was told my son was in the "elite" pile of kids. The "priority" group of 7. Just exactly what does that mean? Although I did not take Drivers ed at this location, I took it at the Western Springs branch, it was, well is, a terrible experience.  I took the classes at the beginning on June 2013, it is now late February 2014, and I still have not completed my behind-the-wheel.  Every time you call no one knows what is going on.  Also, on one of the BTW, which are supposed to be 2 hours long, it was only 1 hour long.  Any time that I have had a behind the wheel, the instructor was late.  I would not recommend this driving school to anyone, ever.  Terrible experience. My Son started, PAID IN FULL, and completed the classroom portion of driving school, in May of 2013....But the driving part we can't get even a driving instructor to call us back! Iv made many many calls and sent over a dozen emails!! And I hear the same thing , we will have a instructor call u today!! NOPE NEVER happened!! I know many other parents from the same class are having the same issue, as well as parents from the June/ July class of 2013 .... So my review would NOT be a good one at all.. I had a very good experience taking lessons from Excel. Dave, my instructor, was awesome. He is a very patient person and that's exactly what you need when you are learning to drive. I highly recommend him for an instructor. To this day, I still use his advice when I'm on the road. He has definitely made me a safe and alert driver.The only problem I had was with the online payment. I put my deposit down and it took 6 weeks for anyone to call and schedule a time. Now there was a long wait (4 weeks) because you are basically fighting with all the high schoolers to get a spot. But once I called about this, I was set up for a schedule right away. This is the place in the area to learn how to drive. Read Less
