I'm a parent of a new driver. So, I wasn't in the class or in the car while my son was being taught how to drive. All I can comment on was my experience in the car with my son and what he said he was told in class / on the road. Apparently, students are no longer taught how to grip the wheel, 3:00 and 9:00, for safest driving nor do they have to keep both hands on the wheel at all times. Also, no need to pay attention to speed limits because they're told to "go with the flow of traffic". I could go on but review would be very long. I believe kids / people should be taught how to drive by the book and how to be a defensive driver. I wouldn't send any of my children here again. The lessons are too casual!! Read Less

I signed my daughter up for driving lessons with Viking.  I know that a lot of people use Viking since I see their cars out on the road quite often.  There are not a lot of reviews that help you judge the quality of the driving schools.  Therefore, I wanted to share my experience.  She only went to one lesson.  The teacher told the kids that he had dressed in a suit in order to impress the parents on the first day.  He then told them that they would probably not be using their books the whole time.  He wanted to connect to everyone on Instagram and he told them if they did not show up to all of the recommended classes, he would not tell anyone. One of our friends had sent their son to Viking.  He said that he was happy that they did not keep track of missed classes since his son was not very good at attending class.I called Viking and was told that the teacher was very well liked by the students.  She said that he just wanted to be friends with the kids and that's why he asked for their Instagram.  I explained that he should not be communicating with his students outside of class through any social media.  I told her that she was leaving herself open to a possible lawsuit.  She didn't seem to understand where I was coming from.  She was very unprofessional.  I explained that they were in charge of educating these kids so that they could be good drivers.  Why should parents have to pay Viking for this type of education.  She didn't really have any good answers.  I then asked for my money back.  She asked me if she could change the instructor for my daughter.  I said that I would rather have my money back if this was the type of instructor that they hired.  She did return my money without a problem. I have heard that this instructor may no longer be there.  We then went to Top Driver for our driving classes.  We couldn't have been happier.  They were much more professional and took their job of educating these kids seriously.  I hope this helps others to make a good decision as to where to send there kids for drivers education.  If you have to spend that amount of money to teach your kids how to drive, you want to know that they are getting the education they are paying for.  Apparently anyone can open a drivers education business.  There aren't too many standards.  A lot of these companies do not care if they are producing good drivers.  They just want to make the money. For $70 an hour this school really sucks. My instructor, Bart, drifted off to Lala land during the lessons. He was completely quiet and, at times, I thought he was sleeping. The only time he ever said more than a sentence to me was when I almost landed on a hydrant when making a right turn. The driving education 'theory' classes are a complete joke. Kasia, the owner, will let the kids do whatever they please. The Maine South brats started to vandalize the classroom whenever she would leave. The secretary would then have to come into the room to tell them all to shut up.This whole place is a complete joke. After my bad experience I've decided to try out Pol-Sport. They provide driving lessons for $30 an hour!!! The instructors are truly amazing and always show up on time. I couldn't be more happier with them. Read Less

Just got my Class A CDL through Viking and it was a great experience! I've heard through other comments that Viking will fail you just so they can get more money in which half goes to the DMV instructor. No..............you will fail if you don't study and don't know what you're doing. To obtain a license in anything else in life, you have to study and pass the tests. Of course, if you don't study, you will fail. That simple. If you don't want to spend the extra $100, $200 or $300, then you should study, pay attention and pass the exams. If you have no problem paying extra money, then go ahead and be a slacker and waste everybody's time.I passed all the written and road tests THE FIRST TIME because I studied and paid attention to what the instructors told me. The instructors are professionals in the industry and will TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO PASS THE DRIVING TESTS. If you don't listen, you fail. Again, that simple. Thanks Viking for giving me the knowledge to obtain a Class A CDL. VERY professional and knowledgeable staff. Read Less

They do a great job of training new drivers for the road. Most Glenbrook South students and a few other nearby high school students attend Viking Driving School to attain their permit and eventually learn to drive responsibly and safely.I took their class back in '07 but the staff teachers were more than competent; they had the required amount of classroom lecture time, and they covered all the necessary textbook information about rules of the road, road safety, hazards and road signs. They utilized both written material and classroom videos into their program. As for the actual driving, they have a fleet of fairly new, clean cars with a brake pedal on the passenger side as well (so the instructor can stop the car if need be), and you take turns driving with one of your peers sitting in the backseat. They spend enough time explaining how to start driving, and they teach you the necessary steps to parking properly, and how to parallel park, and so on.When you're applying for your permit, back when I took the class, they also drive you to the DMV in a limo, which was corny, but a nice touch regardless. The only downside is how packed their classes usually are, since there are so many teens that want to get their license as soon as possible. Word of advice, register early and soon, rather than later. Read Less
