Zero stars. My instructor Alex was ALWAYS late 15-20 min. Fell asleep twice while I was driving on a main road he'd be texting. Gave no constructive feedback. Wasted my money and time I would not recommend this place to anyone. I paid for the package to cover driving on the highway which we didn't do. Barely covered parking. At the end of the day I still don't know how to drive safely or how to park. This place is useless. Stay away.Read Less

This review is from my experience a few months ago. I chose this company to help me brush up on my driving skills because I haven't driven for about 4 years and the reviews here are awesome. I paid for a full 2 hours which is 80 dollars for driving but the instructor came 20 minutes late and we ended about 10 minutes early. He criticized my driving just because I forgot some of the rules to the road (like I said, it's been years since I last drove a vehicle, that's why I came for a refresher) then said he recommends that I schedule another appointment with him. But while I was driving, my instructor kept on yelling at me saying "what don't you not understand?" And he kept sighing and looked pretty annoyed. I can't drive if you're giving me all this negativity. I was pretty offended by his attitude but I kept my mouth shut and didn't want to start anything. I even gave that mofo tips, which I regret doing because he obviously didn't deserve it. So I schedule an appointment with another company and they said my driving was good and that Amigo's driving school was ripping me off. Overall, I don't recommend this location unless you want to be ripped off and yelled at. Read Less

I've been driving both automatic and stick shift for about 20 years overseas but since I am a permanent resident in Chicago for 6 years, I decided that it was time to get my US driver license. Recommended by a colleague, I chose Amigo and decided to take the 2 hour "refresher course" and then take the test immediately after. My instructor, Brian, called me the night before our appointment (very professional!) and when we met up the next day, he immediately put me at ease and talked me through what to be expect during  the driving test. We drove around for 2 hours and practiced the route that I was going to drive during the test multiple times. Just before the test, Brian kept reassuring me that I was ready. I'm used to driving right handed stick shift and had no experience driving in the US. I had been putting off getting the drivers license for the longest time since I live in the city, and was fortunate enough to come across Amigo driving school when I finally decided to go for it. Victor is a fantastic instructor, he's very professional and honest to his job . He was very patient , tough when needed yet he helped me relax and gain confidence on the road. He addressed any concerns I had about driving(parallel parking being one of my main issues). He uses metaphors and examples from everyday life to help understand the rules of the road better. What I really appreciated was the lesson around the airport since I never thought I'll learn my way around it easily. I don't know why people are praising about it. I had a worst experience. I took one class and driving test. Driver keeps shouting at you even when you know you are doing right and talks gibberish. I passed the road test without any hassle but this guy wasted my time. Picked another girl and drove me nuts with her driving; it took one hour to come back home! (neither they tell you that you got to keep cash and then won't even drop you home after taking cash! I had to walk back!)I wouldn't recommend this to anyone! Read Less

Victor will make you a safe and confident driver. I needed to get my US drivers license since I only held an overseas license and was used to driving on the left hand side of the road. I took a couple of lessons with Victor and passed my drivers test on the first go. He is patient and insightful and really tailors his teaching for each student. I am a new driver and I took my driving classes with Brian. His teaching methods really helped me to learn driving. He made me comfortable btw and did not yell at my mistakes, but nevertheless made every attempt to correct the same. I passed my driving test in my first attempt after taking 4 classes with Brian. I found out about Amigo Driving School through Yelp (Big thanks to the other reviewers!) last month, and today, I just got my driver's license!I was very scared at first that I didn't even want to pull out into the street. But with each class, my confidence and skill level continually improved! There are times when I'd get discouraged during or after class, but then we'd work on my weaknesses in the next class. Soon, I was able to execute the different driving maneuvers! Victor taught me how to drive. It is obvious that he has a lot of experience teaching this skill, and has had many different types of students in the past. He is strict and pushes you to really exert yourself, which can sometimes be frustrating (I cried, unfortunately), but in the end, all my hard work paid off. We drove around everywhere in Chicago! I feel like I had a good sampling of the different driving areas/conditions, and find that an invaluable experience! He also gave me a lot of highway driving experience, and taught me the skills necessary for highway driving as well. In one of my later classes, we went to my work (at Lemont: we took 90/94, and then 55, took about an hour each way), and back. Victor suggested that we do this when I told him that I needed to learn how to drive to get to work when the Metra and carpooling don't work so well anymore. I thought that was a sign that he wants me to be a safe driver both for myself and for others, and not just pass the road test. It was a challenging drive, I thought, but it actually wasn't so bad and I did well. At that time, I felt that I can actually drive now! It was a really good feeling.Amigo is an excellent driving school and has surpassed my expectations, and I will not hesitate one bit about recommending it to others. Of course, passing the road test is a critical step in the driving journey, and they made sure that I can successfully do this. But more importantly, they make sure that you are actually a competent and safe driver. Driving schools can be expensive, but with my experience at Amigo, I definitely feel that I got my money's worth and more. Based on my experience, I would say that amigo is one of the best driving school in chicago. Although I literally had no experience in driving, Victor helped me in getting the license within 1 week. After analyzing your driving, He will always make sure that you end up correcting the mistakes which you make in the process. He really understands where you stand and will patiently teach you on mastering the skills with his easy techniques. If some one really follows on his advice, then I am sure that they will end up with license in their hands within 4 days  even if you have not touched the steering wheel before. There's no such thing as a bad student, only a bad teacher. I was so lucky to find the right one and can't be more thankful to him. When Victor told me that he could teach me driving a car in one week, it seemed completely impossible. I must say that he was a man of his word. I got my driver's license on April 1st and I don't doubt anymore that everything is possible! :) It took me only 4 lessons to successfully pass my road test on my first try, which was totally beyond my expectations. Yelp helped me to decide what driving school should I trust to pass my road test. This is far the most reliable and affordable. Since I already know how to drive, I took the road test package and got an hour extra "lesson". It was worth it since Victor gave me a lot of pointers which you don't learn from the manual the DMV gives you. So he taught me a lot of pointers which I can use for the road test and apply it as well in "real" life. He makes sure you drive safe to protect yourself and the cars around you. He also taught me to do parallel parking seamless.So yeah, if you're thinking of a driving lesson or need a car or instructor for a road test, this is the place to be. 1. The car was appalling. It wouldn't go straight and I when I tried to correct it using the steering wheel, I was yelled at for fidgeting with the steering wheel. It obviously had some wheel alignment issues. Overall pathetic condition of the car.2. Big Negative! The driving instructor was extremely rude and kept telling me I am going to fail from the word go which made me nervous. OH MY! I needed to get my license renewed BEFORE Monday. I called several places and they were charging $225 without availability until Monday. I called Amigo Driving school, Victor not only quoted my at $150, but also took into consideration my urgent situation and accommodated my request. Upon arriving to school, Victor walked me through both the written test and the driver's portion. By the time, I parked the car in line for the driver's exam, i knew exactly what I was getting into, what to do, and what not to do. I passed with flying colors! Awesome Driving Instructor!I learned to drive at this school with Victor and I had a great experience from start to finish. I called and they worked with my schedule to fit in lessons later that week. When I had my first lesson in traffic- I was very nervous- but my instructor Victor was kind, patient, and a great teacher!  We practised together until I was confident that I could drive safely and pass the road test. I booked the driving exam with the school car. My instructor gave me a lesson right before the road test- he knew the entire route used in the test.
