I actually graduated last summer of august 2011 from Academia it was one of my best summers ever, all staff knew your name which felt great. The staff was very friendly, Jorge is an awesome dude a very great man i can't thank him enough for helping me get my CDL, Sandra makes sure you are there and you are on point with your stuff, Rosio & Alicia are on your back making sure you come to class the next available time, Mario knows his stuff he is very encouraging on anything that you are struggling with, Bob is awesome at pre-trip and goes out of his way so you pass his class, John is the same he will teach you how to drive that truck plain and simple. Pay attention to these people, and put in your part because they can't test for you obviously and you will get your CDL like i did from Academia. Thanks guys for your help from your former student, Carlitos. Read Less

This is the honest to God truth. I was told by Rosie that the school would be 1600 and 1800 if you paid in payments. I started off by getting my drug and alcohol/physical done first (DOT med card). It took a week to come back. [STRIKE 1]: By the time I got back up to the school to" officially enroll" (Which I thought I was enrolled already), Rosie is now saying the price was 1700 in full and 1900 in payments. I "enrolled" anyway with no argument. When Rosie opens her receipt book, I see a Mexican student (One of my friends at the school) who paid 1600 the exact same day as I was "enrolling." I am sorry but that was SO UNFAIR for me to pay an extra $100 but not him. Still I said nothing. [STRIKE 2]: Classes start and everything was VERY unorganized. Students came and went as they pleased. No one at the front desk was keeping track of student hours or anything. Bob starts working at the school (One of the best instructors you'll ever meet) and he gets the school on track as far as being organized goes. He takes no B.S. he wants things inn order and that's it. They started then keeping track of our hours and making sure we learned pre-trip properly because of Bob. Classroom time was still WEAK because we watched the same video over and over again in small HOT classroom while Jorge (Owner/Firefighter), Sandra (Jorge's Wife) and Rosie sat in the air conditioned office. Not to mention Jorge teaches driving in the yard and he is probably the most inpatient person I've ever met. Non of the students wanted him in the yard. He talked to you like you were an idiot. We all hoped John would teach us (John worked with Bob over at Progressive truck driving school, so they both were GREAT) [STRIKE 3]: I hate to make anything about race, but I said I would tell the truth. Around the time I first started there was another Black student that warmed me that Jorge caters to the Mexican students and I yelled at the guy and told him to get out of my face because I didn't want to hear that bullsh*t, but boy did I feel like an dummy when I turned out to be true. One day while driving in the yard Jorge tells me that if drag the tires (Not releasing the tractor and trailer brakes) that he would charge me $25 every time I dragged the tires. So I asked all my other peers (All Mexican students were there this day) if he had told them that, they all said "No." Fast forward a day later me and my Mexican buddy are both in the truck paired up practicing backing the tractor trailer up. He goes 1st, backing up the truck exactly 5 times. I get in the truck and back up 2 times and Jorge comes running to the truck and pulls me out (Not Violently) and says "You go back in the classroom, he's getting this quicker than you so I'm gonna work with him and we'll maybe get to you later." I know he wouldn't come get me later just like last time so at that point I was sooooo upset. I was at a truck driving SCHOOL. So teach me if I am doing something wrong. Don't keep putting me at the end of the line. But that's how Jorge operates. Even though John is a cool guy, Jorge runs the place so what he says goes. When I was pulled from the truck, I didnt go to the classroom I got in my car and drove off and never came back. Even though they have my money, I still wont go back. I'd rather pay a lil more and get great training versus letting them B.S me around. You get what you pay for. Also Jorge claimed that 100% of his students passed the test but I later found out from ***** that that was not true. Students would fail and retake the test 3-4 times then pass. Jorge left that part out. I didn't write this review to bash anyone, but you have the right to know whats going on in that school before you spend you hard earned money. Ask them to let you sit in on a class before you enroll. They'll most likely tell you "No." Be Careful. Read Less
