The staff was very nice and willing to be of assistance. The instructors are also very helpful and knowledgeable. I went into Katlaw with a goal and the instructors/staff help me accomplish that goal. You will get out the school, what you put in when it comes to this training. The school is probably has the lowest tuition of any private driving school in the state. But with such a low tuition comes some MINOR challenges. Those MINOR challenges are the equipment that you will be operating at Katlaw. The equipment is not top of the line; but how can you expect it to be. This equipment gets dogged day in and day out by inexperienced student drivers. I call them MINOR challenges because me and few other students took our test at the Ga dds and passed on our 1st try! You can come to the school, soak up the knowledge , do it the KATLAW way and become a member of the elite 1 & DONE crew! If the minor challenges that I mentioned discourage you then you can go to another school spend TWICE the amount of money to say that you learned how to drive on a tractor that shifted better to get the same damn CDL license.....But honestly I feel If you can handle this equipment, then you can handle any equipment! I attended Katlaw in April 2017. It's a grinder school. They throw you and a bunch of others all in together going over all types of rules and regulations and doing all types of maneuvers in the trucks for three weeks and when it's over well, ready or not, It's over! Time to take the test. They'll give you all the tools you'll need to succeed but it's up to you to get it done. I saw my entire class of 8, except for two, pass the state cdl test on the first try. One and done!! My only gripe would be that they would do good to show the range a little love with a few new crisp lines of paint and maybe not let the classes get too big because of the ones who couldn't get it done the first, second, third, fourth or fifth time! Our class doubled in the last two days because of re-takes..not hatein, just sayin. Outside of those minor details, I can honestly say I got my money's worth. The instructors were on point. You got different points of view with millions of safe miles between them but you gotta keep your eyes and mind open and do what it takes to make it work for you because on test day it's just you and that truck. It's a bit of an aggressive schedule and a lot to take in but it's worth it in the end so be ready to get up at 4:30am and come to work 12hrs. I'd definitetly recommend this school, for sure. Excellent school to learn in, the 2 classroom staff are cool as hell, they have the good guy bad guy approach and it works great! They definitely give you the info needed to get you CDL permit, (state test is very tricky)! I passed my state exam with 84 on General 100 on Air Brakes and 100 on Combination, but ran into 21 year old license issues, looking forward to the clearance of that so I can get back to school and finish the driving course. Very consistant with showing a geuine concern for each individual student needs. All the instructors and staff in the front office are very professional and are great with getting you on your way to a new career. Some equipment could use upgrading but better to train you for real world situations you may come across imho. If you listen, you will learn in a very short period of time. Safety is the instructors upmost concern. Great school! Read Less

Good school to get your class A license, the staff is great and provide what you need to pass your test. They won't babysit you but if you pay close attention to instructions and ask questions whenever you have any doubts then you will be fine. I would give it 4 1/2 stars and the only reason i didn't give 5 was because the trucks that we learn in are not consistent (some are 8 speed others are 10, new trucks, old trucks, 53' & 48' trailers). It would be nice to have the same equipment for every maneuver and testing that we have to take. Overall I would recommend attending Katlaw. Read Less

My husband spent thousands and months trying to get his CDL thru this school, they lied and said it takes 3 weeks but they fail to tell you that if you fail any part of the tests they give, you wait weeks before they get you back in to continue your training. By then its like starting from scratch if you've never driven a semi before. He attended every class and worked Very hard and still did not get the support he needed. Several people in one truck to learn, pushing you to take the state test before you're ready...They were always looking for more money from him to get more help/additional training. Ended up going somewhere else. Even though he competed all his work there and passed their testing, they would not give him any proof he finished there (Without Paying hundreds). Wish I could give ZERO stars!!! Don't waste your money! They lie to students to get them in and once they have your money you are still without work for up to months while you try to pass the tests. Then if you pass you still cant get a job being a new CDL holder. Unless you want to be OTR for 6 months on end. No local work for new drivers. Read Less

going in to this three week course I was convinced that I would fail and that the whole thing was a waste of my money. But, by the end of week one which is classroom only, my confidence began to build as I realized that my success was dependent on accepting that hard work will pay off.Not to mention very strong encouragement from the classroom teacher William Johnson whose fun presentation helped this exhausted student get through the week . The next two weeks are driving exercises such as backing skills, shifting and general control of the vehicle. My teacher for these two weeks was Helen Speers, who did an excellent job of communicating the job at hand. She was very patient with the three of us assigned to her truck and properly budgeted her time so that all of our weaknesses could be addressed. Another positive thing to point out is that the other two students(Jose Rodriguez and Ron Fortner) that I was placed with could not have been any better. I don't know if this was deliberate or just an accident but we all got along great and spent all of our free time helping each other with the pre-trip inspection and just talking about driving skills, helping us all become better students. I wish I could be in this environment all the time. All of us passed and are now class A cdl drivers, including a return student Imagene (Emma Jean yet another good match for our group) giving Katlaw and Helen Speers a 100% pass rate. Read Less

How can you ""place"" your students when the companies won't take them!!??!! Big Ripoff!! Very uncaring staff!! Money hungry! It's been almost a year and no job yet! Excellent school, I highly recommend for SERIOUS individuals!! Read Less

Read Less

After paying $2495.00 for a 3 week course to obtain a CDL License, my husband was told they could not ""place"" him do to the fact that he had a 9 year old felony on his record. Something they knew before they took our money but failed to mention in order to get our money!! AND...currently all of the companies that they work with for ""job placement"" are not hiring people without experience!!!!! Are you serious???? How can you ""place"" your students when the companies won't take them!!??!! Big Ripoff!! Very uncaring staff!! Money hungry! It's been almost a year and no job yet! Do yourself a favor and look into going through training with a trucking company directly! Cheaper and once you are done you work with them! Read Less
