Had the pleasure of standing at the counter in back with the knives. Waiting for the gentleman who worked there to finish up with the lady who came in front of me to ask about carving boards. I was standing right next to her for a good 5-10 minutes. Did I mention RIGHT next to her at this very small counter(stated so there is no confusion, he saw me. No way he did not see me). As they are ending their conversation and I get already for my turn, a man walks up with some knives. He barges forward and the gentleman working there answers his query on whether they can get knives sharpened there. No biggie. Now time to turn his attention to the next in line. No. He then proceeded to help this gentleman who just walked up. Because..well he IS a MAN and HIS time is more important. I threw up my hands and walked out. Only when he knew I was upset did he bother to say anything to me. At this point, I headed to Peppercorn. They answered my questions and showed me the item I needed to purchase. Read Less

Yes, it should be common sense but I've taken a few classes, and people are gross, and contaminate the food. Second, I dont feel like you walk away with enough food because you pay per person, but you have to share with 4 other people. I'm surprised that the rating is lower because I've only had great experiences here. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. They are knowledgeable about all things cooking and can help with any of those tough questions you have. We had such a great time in our cooking class at Sur La Table. I attended the cooking class with the Board of Directors from the REALTOR Association. Annually we pick an activity that will be fun and team building. This year it was Sur La Table and the effect was perfect! The chef in charge, Skylar, had so much personality and really wanted us to learn about our dishes. She kept us on track and taught us all new tricks. For example, I didn't know that you are suppose to 'pinch' the knife with your thumb and pointer on the blade then grab the handle with your back four fingers. That is the proper technique in order to have complete control over the knife. We also learned about Spanish paprika, pimenton, which comes either sweet or spicy. The favorite item for me that we made were bacon wrapped dates. What I liked is that we stuffed them with blue cheese and a marcona almond! they were the perfect balance of sweet and savory. They had everything ready and laid out for our group to arrive. The utensils and ingredients were well organized and the kitchen itself was spotless, too. The storefront was stock full of every cooking item that you could imagine. Overall, a great experience! Read Less

Really NICE people here! I hate a pretentious store (and I've been in snooty Sur La Table's before - hello, Newport Beach!), and this is NOT a pretentious store. The people who work here are friendly and service oriented. Definitely will be back. We did a cooking class for date night - and totally screwed it up. We got the time wrong and showed up late. Rather than making us miss half the class, we moved to a different class the next day. We had a great time. They are knowledgeable, the classes are hands-on, and you get a serving (per person) of the food you prepared. The only downside (and it's minor) is that for a foodie like me, you're not likely to learn much. However, I've watched a TON of food TV and cook a LOT myself. I won't let that stop me from taking another class for date night! :-) It's that much fun! Read Less

Went here to return a coffee machine that routinely left large coffee grounds in my coffee.  The model was Capresso personal coffee maker. This problem was so bad that I had to filter my coffee, separately as another step, once it had been made.  Obvious this became quite a hassle especially on busy mornings.  When I brought the coffee maker back to the store I received a bunch of attitude from the clerk - I  definitely will not shop here anymore since customer satisfaction is apparently not a priority. Terrible service, not to be mean, nor get personal, but the "sales" people at this location are completely incompetent, and just plain lazy.  My wife and I went in, and wanted to by a complete set of La Crueset dinnerware, and also wanted to add some matching cereal bowls.  Not that it matters, but the total purchase was going to be about $400-$500..  We needed just a couple more bowls that weren't on the shelf..  I had to go to 3 different employees, before one would reluctantly help..  Then had explain to her that the cereal bowls were not part of the set.   Employees just stand around, then if forced to help,do so begrudgingly, and even then really don't know what they're doing.  Too bad, it's a great store, but with that kind if service your better served shopping for the same stuff elsewhere. This store is so hit and miss thar it deserves 1 star. Since I'm a professional chef I happen to stop by here often for work items. When I'm dressed in a chef uniform with a shines credit card, they treat me like a rock star. If I go in dressed in civilian clothes, they could care less. Just today we went to look at a food processor, we asked "Metta" for some help, she seemed annoyed to be asked for help. Long story short, we read a review on the unit we thought we wanted and decided not to get it. Then another "salesperson" tried to sell me a $200 handheld blender with a few attachments. Not what we were looking for, then I mentioned I saw a similar item that I saw online at "Walmart" and she pretty much ran away to another couple to help them. So unless you come with hundred dollar bills hanging out of your pocket, don't expect too much help. Read Less

The first time I visited was to get my knives sharpened.  I had a wonderful experience.  The service I received was excellent.  I went back a week later to get more knives sharpened and the service was terrible.  I brought in a serrated knife which their advertisements said they sharpened.  The person who helped me was VERY uncomfortable with sharpening a serrated knife.  She first told me that they didn't sharpen them and after I showed her the advertisement she remembered that they did.  At this point I'm very concerned.  My knives are very expensive and I didn't know what would happen if they did a bad job.  The person asked a co-worker and then another show in order to find out how to sharpen a serrated knife.I made the mistake of asking them if they sold the flammable gel for fondue sets.  They didn't know if they had it or not so they finally directed me to McGuckin's.  I should have gone there the first place and sharpened my knives at home.I'll probably revisit this location since there's no Williams Sonoma in Boulder, but I won't go back to get a service performed.

This place sucks. If you really need kitchen ware and want service that's fast and people that are competent go to the Peppercorn. The attendant that just serviced us let another woman cut us in line and then proceeded to chat with her for five minutes. Also, there are never enough people there working to help you. You always have to wait forever even to ask a question. Read Less
