My son recently got his driver's license permit & we set up the req'd 2-hours of training w/Cupertino Driving School. It is supposed to be an "official" driving school & it's website address is: 5149 Moorpark Ave., #104 in San Jose. THERE IS NOTHING PROF'L or OFFICIAL ABOUT THIS SCHOOL!! I CANNOT RECOMMEND IT!!
A youngish man (late 20's/early 30's) showed up to our door to take my 15.5 yr old son out for a driving lesson. He was in a yellow Honda Fit. I noticed there was nothing on his car id'ing it with Cupertino Driving School. In addition, there was no notice on the back of the car alerting other drivers that a "Student Driver" was behind the wheel. I asked about that & he said it was "his personal car." That made me wonder if he had insurance on his "personal car" to be taking new, inexperienced student drivers. Teaching others to drive is serious business & has risk.
I then asked if he had some documents to validate he was with Cupertino Driving School & was "certified" to train new student drivers. He angrily stared @ me & said, "No." I said who can I contact to confirm you are with the school & certified to give driving lessons. He rudely told me, "contact the same # you originally called." I asked if they were open & he said, 'yes.' I called & no one answered. He again, angrily blurted out, "It's Sunday." I said, "I know but you told me they were open & could confirm your role w/the company, is that correct or not?"
At that point he said he'd never had anyone ask this in 7 years, which I found ridiculous. I'm supposed to let my totally inexperienced kid get in a car w/a stranger 4 a 2-hour driving lesson w/a man that can't validate he's w/the company he's supposed to be with, or that he's certified to train students to drive. In addition, he hadn't even offered to show me a valid driver's license of his own.
At that point he made another angry, unprofessional, & rude comment that, "because I live in fancy neighborhood, I was giving him a hard time." We live in a small house in a typical suburb so I have no idea where that comment came from. I then told him I was not comfortable having my kid drive with him if he couldn't confirm he was actually with the school & trained to give driving lessons. He snapped back that, "he didn't want to give my son a lesson anyway," & angrily stormed off.
I then went to the co's website. They are supposed to be open on Sundays from 9 - 5 pm. Since it was well b4 5 pm, I called two more times, about 10 minutes apart & again, no one answered.
About 20 mins after that, I get a call from a woman with a heavy accent that sounded Asian. After asking who I was speaking with 3x, she finally gave me the name 'Grace' & said that, "she was returning my call to the Cupertino Driving School " I could hear little kids playing, shouting in the background. I asked her if she was @ the school's office & she said, "No." She asked why I called & I told her I had a very bad experience w/one of their drivers & she told me to, "send an email," and hung up!
Not a professional school! Drivers aren't even willing to answer basic questions about their qualifications to teach others, their experience or length of time as trainers, the school's approach, etc... The school wasn't even reachable during the period it was supposed to be open for business to confirm my driver was legit. When they finally called back, they were not interested in learning my concerns, or taking ownership for them.
It seemed like a really loosely run, unprofessional, mom & pop outfit that was sticking any live body they could find behind the wheel to conduct training. I have serious questions about their insurance, the training of their "drivers," & how they might conduct themselves w/your child. BE FORWARNED & USE @ YOUR OWN RISK! Read Less
