Pros: Joseph is a great driving instructor. He is very encouraging and caring. I passed the test with a 97!! And I have taken only a few lessons with him. I am an international student so I was not used to the road rules here at all and I have never really driven before (except for like once or twice back in my home country) but Joseph made it very digestible and easy for me to understand and remember. He taught the right techniques and ALL you need to know for the test. Not only that, he also makes sure you will be a safe driver in the long run as well, which I thought was a very valuable quality as a driving instructor. Just follow his instructions and really pay attention to what he says during all the lessons (don't worry, he will repeat them to you and make sure you really get it) and the test will be so simple for you. I'm so glad I had Joseph as my driving instructor. I like having the flexibility in scheduling my lessons with him and I like how he makes things super simple for you - from the driving techniques to getting over your nervousness and going through all the process at dmv. I took my test at Claremont dmv. I'd highly recommend taking your test there. Cons: To be completely objective, I need to make a note here that he might not be on time so just keep your schedule flexible and account for that when you schedule a lesson with him. It is a minor tradeoff, though, considering that he really makes your lessons worthwhile. On the day of the test, he was on time and we even got to drive around to practice for a good 1 1/2 hours, which I thought was very solid so overall, I had a pleasant experience and I would recommend him :) Read Less

Among the traits of good business person I believe includes being reliable, panctual and responsive. Joseph lacks all three important characteristics of a dependable business man.Last week I arranged an appointment for 2 hours training. He asked to meet me at 4:30 PM which I agreed. I  waited until 5:15 PM but no Joseph nor did he bother to contact me. I called him to ask if he was coming or what was happening but he didn't care to answer. Later that evening I called and he responded but no apologies for not showing up or contacting me that afternoon. Anyway we again arranged another appointment for the next day in the morning at 9 AM. Learning from the previous day, I texted him to remind about the appointment and he responded by saying he will come at 9:30 AM. 10 AM still no Joseph nor did he care to contact me. Two days in a row. I had to request a day off to get the training but  Joseph doesn't understand the value of time. Thanks to my friends I have finally passed the test and will not need Joseph's Service. I am writing to let others know that this guy is unreliable and disrespectful. Take your training elsewhere. Joseph is simply great!He knows the right techniques and has the right approach of teaching you.He instantaneously learns your driving pattern, identifies your improvement corners and then is right on target to get them all set right.I had been driving for 6 years in India, and still failed 3 times, before meeting him. If there were 10 stars, Joseph would get them all. Thanks to his calm and professional instruction, I passed the road test on my first try. Joseph is patient, knowledgeable, and he knows all the DMV people and what to focus on. He taught me skills for safe driving, beyond the test. I plan to return to him for some lessons in freeway driving, even though I already have my license. No time with Joseph is ever wasted, and it is always time and money well spent because I learn things from him every lesson. he built my confidence up too. I contacted Joseph after having failed the driving test at Santa Clara DMV. I had never driven before and attempted the driving test at Santa Clara DMV after 6 hours of driving session with another driving school.Joseph worked hard on improving my driving and showed me around the Oakland DMV where I was planning to take my second attempt. After 3 (2hour) sessions with Joseph I passed the test with 98%. He knew all the people at DMV and guided me on what each examiner might focus on. He knew the routes very well and pointed out several times the common mistakes that new drivers do on the routes. I would definitely recommend him.One thing to note about Joseph, though, is that he can be late for some reason or the other. I had to wait about 30 mins in 2 out of the 3 sessions. Read Less

Joseph was a great, patient instructor who helped me pass the test. I ended up getting a 99% at the Oakland Claremont DMV on my first try. For students, Joseph's prices are really affordable (40/hour). I took 3 hours of lessons, and then took the test within the same week. He was even nice enough to give me one free hour of practice before the test. He does a great job showing you tricks on how to make smooth turns and what to look out for on the test route. He knew all the examiners at the DMV too so it made my experience much more relaxed.Would recommend Joseph, he definitely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Read Less

Joseph was great for refreshing the rules and also in terms of student pricing. Completed 2 sessions of 1 hour each, and he gave specific routes and tips on passing the test. He also seemed to know all test routes at El Cerrito and practices there before the test, which helped a lot. Passed with score of 96, so worked out. I took one 2-hr lesson with Joseph and that's it; it was enough! I have driven a lot in India but here it is different. Joseph is a very passionate guy and really cares about his customers and he wants them to not just pass but pass with flying colors. He will show you all the routes and give you all the tips needed to pass the test. Just follow him; don't try to argue with him - he will scold you! :) That just comes from his passion for work. As mentioned in some of the reviews, he did make me wait a bit beyond the scheduled time, but he made up for it with his lesson. Joseph is a friendly guy and a great instructor. He teaches techniques for a smooth and safe driving - the qualities needed to pass the driving test. He charges $35/hour and $80 for the driving test. I took total of six hours of driving sessions and passed the test. Because he knows the DMV people in Claremont Oakland, you should feel relatively comfortable and at ease on the day of your test. The only unfortunate drawback is that..probably because Joseph has high number of students to teach, he can be late for appointments or sometimes might just cancel the training sessions without advance notice. So it can definitely be irritating when you are tight on schedule or have work. But luckily on my test day, he came right on time. Joseph was an amazing instructor! I came to him after I messed around driving with my friends, and failing the tests several times. He was very friendly, really knew his stuff. I passed the test after driving with him for like 4 times. He points out the important points while driving and really prepares you for the test. He was also very reasonably priced, at least compared to other instructors as I have heard. Joseph is a really good instructor. He focuses on making you pass the test by teaching essential techniques (such as making perfect turns) as well as subtle things to look out for during the test (such as exaggerating your movements whenever doing shoulder checks). This is helped by the fact that he knows the examiners in the Oakland Claremont DMV. He also gives honest judgement about whether you are ready for the test or not. Once he told me I was ready to take the test, I took it a few days later and passed.The only drawback is that he is sometimes late or flake out. He was 1+ hour late for some of my appointments, and cancelled some others without advance notice. If you don't mind the uncertainty, then I highly recommend taking lessons with him if you want to get that license. Read Less

The instructor was good. The car was old, uncomfortable, and the gas pedal was not smooth. Overall not a huge problem, but it made it hard to accelerate smoothly on curves. The prices are extremely reasonable. Read Less
