Before they drove he spent 30 minutes showing her the blind spots, how you should measure space and when is a good time to turn by using street signs as distance markers. He taught her how to use the steering wheel like a clock as far in how far to turn it and how that related to turns. He made Parallel Parking easy for her. She is now confident and her fear of the roads went away; because Carlos taught her the concept of safe fluid driving. Which gave her much more confidence. I had Carlos as my instructor & he did a phenomenal job! I told him that I had my actual test appointed at the DMV in Costa Mesa, so we practiced locally each session to get a better grip of the city. So, that was perfect!He did take me through the same procedure as the actual test, including the starting point as well as the procedures. It made me a lot more confident for the test, and I knew what I needed to improve on. Overall, he was extremely patient with my silly mistakes, genuinely cared that I had walked out of this with more knowledge on my back, and efficient with his teaching methods!! i will never recommond this driving school to anyone. the guy name carlos is very unprofessional. he will say that you will get driver licence in one day with him. in 6 hour class he only take you practice around dmv . he doesnt even know about all road rule. i wonder that how he get his driver licence. he is the most expensive with zero result. he charge $500 for 6 hour. my all money goes waste. i have worst experience with this driving school. he doesnt concentrate on driving rather than ask for film shoot and music shoot. he has to in jail. especially ladies never never never choose this driver. its not safe. I had my first stick shift driving class with Carlos on Saturday. It was at 7 am for two hours and I learned so much. I really enjoyed how stress free the driving was. I surprisingly didn't stall at all and the two hours flew by. He taught me how to start the car without it being on, how to down shift and we even got the chance to drive on the street for a bit. Absolutely the most unprofessional instructor ever ( Carlos ) No driving instructor and learner confidentiality : There are no set rules for driving instructor/learner confidentiality as such (compared to patient/doctor relationship) but a good driving instructor should keep each learner's information to himself , he literally talked about every student he has had about mentioning their names ,family wealth , social reputation their cars their houses their strengtehss and weakness etc. It was very annoying I am here to learn not to gossip and talk about irrelevant things. An instructor can use examples where mistakes have been committed by learner drivers he's teaching (or has taught in the past) to illustrate a point but without naming the student in question.He would also mention sevral times on  how his other students gave him huge tips After that lesson I immediately changed my driving instructor Bottom line is , there are much better more professional instructors out there THEY ARE NOT ONE OF THEM Read Less

I did my online traffic school course with Newport Driving School and I couldn't be happier. I got a ticket a while back and I needed to take traffic school to clear the point. There were a ton to choose from and I'm glad I picked this one. Their website was super easy to navigate and it only took a very short amount of time to select the course, enter my information and get everything set up. They send you emails with everything you need to know (like your account login and your personal questions/answers). The course stays live until you've completed it or you've attempted it twice and failed. The course material is written pretty well and much more interesting than the DMV handbook. There are a bunch of chapters that you read and there are three questions at the end of each. Then there's one longer test at the end that is mandated by the DMV. Overall, it was painfree and all my procrastination and trepidation were for nothing. You can do it at your own pace too (e.g. a chapter a week). I'm hoping never to get a ticket again, but if I do, I would definitely sign up for the online course from Newport again. Read Less

I emailed them through their website. Then Carlos responded via email. He kept telling me Saturday at 7am, but he'd have to check, he never got back to me and I was always the one reaching out. The day before he blew up my cell phone trying to get me to give him my cc# and register online. I was in meetings (all within a 90 min time frame). When I got out, I called him and he said he already booked it! Even after 10 exchanged emails. He finally gave me the 7am appt. Fast forward to the actual day. He asked for cash for $189 for two hours of manual transmission training. Seems a bit steep, but fine. Then I saw the 20% off yelp coupon for checking in which clearly states for 2 hours behind the wheel refresher trainings. Well, I have a license and my lesson was for 2 hours and it was a refresher in the sense that I know how to drive already? Hmm...seems legit. Denied, he said, it wasn't for stick shift trainings. The deal certainly does not exclude that....hmm, so I had two options, I could have been really mean and just cancelled the appointment (since I didn't pay ahead of time, thankfully), or just pay the money. I paid. The actual lesson was decent. Sure it's a BMW you're driving, but don't be fooled, it does not look like ANYTHING like the website picture. The BMW i drove was pretty seasoned older model and had 200k+ miles on it. I drove around a neighborhood for less than 2 hours (i'll explain later) practicing how to get going from a dead stop, turns, u-turns and moving from a stop on a light incline. The actual lesson was good.  A bit too much talking. I get it, I should make it second nature, so I don't have to think about it, but probably not the best to chat me up within the first 30 minutes of ever driving a stick shift. We didn't start until 7:15 because it took so long to get to the neighborhood (he drove there) and we ended at 8:53am. So I guess I did get 20% off......of my lesson. Ha! That bothered me a lot. In the future, if I ever need a brush up, I'll go elsewhere. Too many other closer options. Just not really worth the money I paid and everything leading up to the actual lesson could have been much more professional. Try this place at your own risk. Read Less

Newport Driving School is the best driving school in California. The teachers are patient knowledge and with big experience. I took 3 driving classes an I had a a test in 2 weeks, Carlos took me to the DMW and reminded me the last basic stuff. My niece stayed with us last month and I helped her look for a driving school. I called Newport Driving School because the info. they had on their website was impressive. I must have called 50 times during normal business hours but no one ever picked up. I left  5 msg. and no one returned calls. For the entire 5 weeks my niece was here, no one from this school contacted us. My conclusion:1. They are out of business.2.
