Eons ago while all my friends were getting licenses, I enjoyed traveling by LA's fine public transportation system & my trusty bike Carmen. I dragged my feet for 10 years before it was urgent... I was leaving LA and moving to a brand new crime-ridden city where it would be literally impossible to be without a car. And by literally, I mean that I'd live 20 miles from work separated by 2 interstate freeways and the office will be away from civilization at the top of an insane 3 mile hill decorated with a giant snake. It was time.A day after I passed the DMV's written test, Harvey was at my front door in an adorable Mini Cooper. We had 5 lessons, with the 5th being the drive to the behind-the-wheel test at the Torrance DMV. This whole process took less than a week. Harvey was patient with me but also no-nonsense, quick to point out all the things I was doing wrong (which, on day 1, was mostly everything). He answered my incessant questions and we drove all over town getting as much experience as possible. And it worked. I passed the test and only got marked down for making a turn too wide (did not!). Mike took my daughter out three times -- two hours per lesson -- and she just passed her driver's test on her first attempt. He was patient and went over areas he and I spoke about and he worked with her until these "bumps in the road" were eliminated. Nice guy, very thorough and he made the lessons fun for her, too. I was close to giving up on driving as I had failed three times before, but with two lessons with Route66 I was able to finally pass the driving test and get my license. Harvey was very helpful and patient with my driving and taught me some crucial lessons for driving. It was 1:24 pm on Saturday March 19th......I was threatened by one of the driving instructors while driving on Sepulveda and Howard Hughes Parkway......There was road construction going on and the instructor honked me from behind.......telling me to go faster.....he later than pulled up beside my to shout out further obscenities.....I started to record him on camera and then he began to threaten me hoping that it would stop me from recording........When that did not work...he then got out of the car......... he then came toward me and tried the threaten and bully me even more....... I took 4 lessons, 2 with Mike and 2 with Harvey. Both were incredibly impatient, they both snapped at me and raised their voice at me, repeatedly. They made me more paranoid and scared of driving than I was going in. Yes, I was making mistakes but that's why I was paying for lessons! I will have to take more lessons but it won't be with Route 66. Stay away! Read Less

This driving school is the best and even though i had never been behind the wheel of a car harvey made me feel comfortable and got me behind the wheel and driving and it wasn't as hard as i thought it would be i even drove the freeway a little bit on my second lesson, if you want great teacher when doing behind the wheel this is the place to be Read Less

We were using another driving school and my son's test was approaching.  They did not have available times for any extra lessons to prep him for the test.  I called R66.  He learned more from Harvey Goodman in those two lessons than he did from any of the instructors at the other school.  My son passed his test today.  Harvey gave him the tools, insight and confidence to make it happen.  Thank you R66. Excellent! We used R66 for 3x2hr in car driving lessons after which my teen felt comfortable on the road and freeway and I also was more comfortable having her practice with me. I phoned at the last minute and needed lessons that week. Matt was really quick at setting us up and scheduling the lessons. Mike, the instructor was terrific too. The pick up and drop off from home was also very convenient and their Mini Cooper was perfect for learning. We plan to use them for refresher lessons closer to testing time. 5 Stars! Read Less

This Yelp review is about a year late, but I wanted to review nonetheless on how amazing my experience with Route 66 Driving School was! I was having a hard time attaining my license (I tried two times before my attempt with Route 66) when I decided it was time to get professional help. I called in to schedule an appointment for a local DMV visit and one hour of pre-test practice package. My appointment was with Harvey Goodman and I couldn't have been more pleased! He reassured me of my good driving skills and gave me feedback on what I could improve on. I felt very comfortable driving with him and the car. He drove me around for an hour around the Inglewood DMV area where he best predicted they would take me and we made our way over after. Harvey went into the office with me to file initial paperwork before taking the test. I passed with only 1 mark-off my driving! Great Experience w/ Route 66 Driving School. Signed up my daughter for the 6 hr. lessons. Very accommodating with schedule as I had to change pick up location for one of the lessons.   During one of the lessons, my daughter was picked up in Torrance and the lesson conclude in Westchester.  We used their vehicle for the DMV driving test, and the instructor picked up my daughter 1 hr. before appt. for a quick review lesson. Instructor then took her to DMV, checked her in, and waiting w/ her until the end, which turned out to be a 5 hour event! DMV was very very very busy that day. She passed her driving test so it was worth it!  What impressed me was the the patience of the instructor throughout everything. Our instructor was Mike. My daughter completed her online drivers education course with this company and just completed the 6 hours of behind the wheel training with Mike. He's an Excellent instructor, Patient, Personable and Very Kind. My daughter liked him so much she wants him to go with her to the DMV the day of her actual drivers license test. Route 66 Driving School was a perfect match for my daughter's learning style and busy schedule.  Mike was her driving instructor and he was very positive in the way he taught the basics of driving.  Every time I called to set up a 2 hour session, Mike was available.  I could ask for driving sessions on the phone (live or at night on the voice mail) and I would receive an email confirmation of the driving appointment.Mike took her driving around the Inglewood DMV during two lessons, which is where she took her test.  She was well prepared and confident with the neighborhood and the tricky lights and turns.The Mini Cooper was a great car to learn on. She also drove with me in our minivan, so she had the opportunity to practice in a big and small vehicle.The best proof of Route 66 Driving School? I called to get pricing and details. The woman answering the phone was very rude. They only have Dual Brakes. Most schools have Dual Brakes and Dual Gas. Some even have Dual Steering Wheels. If this woman's attitude was indicative of the customer service they provide, i would " Steer Clear" of Route 66. Read Less

The driving experience was incredible. The instructor taught me not only the basic driving skills but ones that he gained from personal experience. I would highly recommend this school because the instructor was patient, he arrived 40 minutes before his appointment, and you get to drive a custom Route 66 mini cooper. Route 66 provides an instructor-student one on one experience that some driving schools do not offer. This school will completely remove any driving fears you have and teach you real world situations that might not happen on the DMV test. I never thought I would be able to drive if it wasn't for Route 66 driving school! I had two instructors who were both very informative. I mainly had Mike as my instructor and I have to tell you he does a wonderful job. Not only did they give me lessons, but also made my appointment at the DMV for my driving test.
