I am 28 years old and have had zero driving experience in my life. I recently moved to LA where I needed to get my driver's license and went with Abel's because it had the highest reviews. I had limited funds to put down and expressed all of this to Abel's when I first started. They said 6 lessons should be enough. I foolishly booked them all with the same instructor and when I clearly wasn't ready for the exam, booked another two. When I finally got a different instructor for the last two, I realized the first hadn't taught me anything. On the day of my test, I got a new instructor who was appalled by the simple things I didn't know and I predictably failed the test. I complained with Abel directly and asked for a free lesson as compensation. Abel himself came to give me the lesson and was also shocked that I wasn't even holding the wheel properly. He did not agree to give me any more lessons unless I paid for them and made a big deal about taking me to the exam, even though we agreed already that it was part of the severance package. I failed the test a second time. On the way home, I left my passport in the car by accident. It was three weeks before I realized it was gone cause I rarely use it and I called everywhere I could think of that I might have left it at, including Abel's and the guy at the office calmly told me it had been there the whole time. I am shocked they didn't try to return such a valuable document to me. After this, I found another driving school (Royal's driving school), had 3 lessons with them (that cost half of the price) and passed my test with flying colors. Abel's was a huge waste of money that the quality of instructors is not consistent. I do not recommend. Read Less

I highly recommend Abel's Driving School. My daughter got her license on her first attempt and all because of her instructor Cynthia.  Cynthia is extremely professional and knowledgeable and a very capable instructor. She helped my daughter learn to drive and gain confidence about her ability, not an easy task in the crazy LA traffic. Everything about the school is excellent from scheduling classes to the quality of the cars used. Every pick up for class was on time.I am extremely pleased that I chose Abel's to teach my daughter to drive and with Cynthia as her instructor. Unprofessional and care more about your money than actually making you learn some thing valuable that will help you drive. They chit chat a lot and ask so many questions instead of teaching you about driving. It is really annoying when you want to focus on the road and the instructor is distracting you!! Abel's Driving School was incredible and really gave me the tools I needed to not only pass the test, but feel comfortable driving after the test. I was very anxious about driving prior to enrolling in driving courses with Abel's. Especially here in Los Angeles, where driving can feel daunting and overwhelming with all the other cars on the road. Prior to Abel's, friends of mine would help me drive in their cars, but the proper guidance was missing. I will attest to the fact that taking driver's training with a school like Abel's is the best option! Before my actual behind-the-wheel test, my instructor took me to drive the DMV routes and it was CRUCIAL because these were the EXACT routes I had to drive through on the test. Not always, but in my case it was. They were in no way mean or rude about my learning to drive. They WERE constructive, helpful, polite, and truly there to help me succeed. The money for driving school will cost more than practicing with a relative or friend, but you only take the driver's test once in your life. It is worth the investment so you are prepared! Really great driving school. My instructor's name was James and every time we had a lesson he always helped me relax while driving and learn more about the rules of the road. Things such as looking at traffic signs, turning while making sure to look at both my mirror and my blind spots, and parking were things that he excelled at teaching me throughout the lessons I took. I had the best experience with Abel's driving school.  It was really easy to coordinate lessons, the staff is responsive and communicative (they will call you a day or two before your lesson to confirm), and they are not overly eager to receive payment before your lesson.  The instructors are awesome!!!  I had a really good time practicing my driving with Carlos, Abraham and James.  All are great guys and will make you feel comfortable, and you'll have a lot of fun.  I'm in my mid-20s and needed help refreshing my driving before taking the CA behind-the-wheel test.  I had failed twice, but once I started driving with Abel, I passed!!  They will prepare you really well.Highly recommend!!! This is the best Driving School ever!!! Carlos and James are the best instructors ever. Carlos is very patient and very informative as a teacher, he's especially calm when you make a mistake and always tells you what you did wrong and how to correct it. I took my driving test with James and he's the BEST hype man, he's calming and settles nerves with jokes . I passed on my first try thanks to them!! I very seldom leave reviews but I had such a great experience with Abel's Driving School I figured it wouldn't be fair not to do so this time around.I opted to take several 2-hour lessons with Abraham, who's been absolutely awesome as my driving instructor. I needed practice as well as some encouragement to get through the stress of the driving test and Abraham has been great at making me feel confident in my ability to drive.I also opted to use Abel's Driving School's car for the test which was the perfect way to loosen up by driving on the way to the test location.Lo and behold, I passed my test a few days ago and that's all thanks to Abraham and the folks at Abel's Driving School.I highly recommend this driving school and if you can, definitely ask for Abraham! I was very nervous after passing the written test, as I didn't have a car to take the driving test on. Abel's lessons took care of that and helped me prepare for the test. These guys are the greatest. They went above and beyond. So anyone can do thier job, what defines someone is what they do when there is a mistake. There was a miscommunication on schedule so a driving lesson right before a test was missed. They stepped right up and went 110%. The inscrutor fit my kid in at 630am the day of her test. How amazing is that. We ended up using this same inscrutor three more times with the final result the kid has her license. He was great with her. The first test she made an instant fail mistake. I highly recommend Abel's Driving School. Over 15 yrs ago I had learned to drive in Paris, France where I grew up and failed the test because apparently my only mistake was not to have "turned my head" enough when I got on the freeway! After that I lived in various major cities where I never needed to drive until I moved to L.A and driving was a necessity. I had some apprehension because I had been in a car crash and my driving teacher in Paris had been tough and critical which made me nervous. The first lesson I ever had, he took me around the Arc de Triomphe where you have about 6 lanes circling around and even people who have been driving for years don't find it particularly easy to maneuver. So to make a story short, I was looking for a teacher who is kind, patient and has a peaceful grounded energy to make me feel safe on the road. Luckily I found him at Abel's Driving School....and his name is Edgar! I only had one week to take lessons and pass the test before going on a trip where I had to drive/rent a car. If it weren't for Abel's Driving School, I would not currently have my license. Before testing for my license, the only car I was able to practice in was a large, 8-cylinder Jeep, which is far too intimidating for a 15-16-year-old. The instructors I always had showed up in a Prius, which is an easy car to learn in due to its tight steering and smooth acceleration. However, I almost wish that they used other cars, as after driving in the small Prius, it became difficult to drive pretty much any gasoline car due to a huge disparity in horsepower. However, my instructors were all great and got me to be less intimidated by the road. Ask for Naomi or Jose or Gloria, as those were the three I had. If possible, ask for all three, as each of them have their own advice to offer which helped me pass my behind-the-wheel test, which I did, in fact, take in the Prius.Furthermore, the rates for Abel are not unreasonable by any means, and they will come and pick you up/drop you off for each lesson, as long as your lesson is not the one-hour brush-up session. I want to thank Herbert and Jose for being so patient with me. It tooks me 11 years to learn how to drive. In spite of that, I got my license on my first try! Herbert and Jose tell you what you need to work on and they also help with confidence behind the wheel. On two separate occasions I scheduled an appointment to take my driving test with Abel's Driving School. On both occasions I called to confirm the day before, and on both occasions they advised that they did not have an appointment scheduled for me and were unable to provide me with an instructor who could take me to my exam!I had even taken note of the date and the person I spoke with to scheduled the second appointment and they still responded with apathy when I informed them this was the second day I had requested off from work to take the driving exam.This has been a frustrating and exasperating experience. My 16 year old daughter took 3 lessons with 3 different instructors.  Luis was the best and the other two were great as well.  The office staff is kind, helpful, and patient.  I was lax in scheduling her last driving lesson and they did such a great job communicating with us about taking a cancellation so we could get it in before her DMV test.  They gave her great advice, gave her "fail points," and taught her the rules very very well.  I waited to write this review until after her DMV appointment --she passed with flying colors.  They were flexible about pick up and drop off locations which was super helpful.  Such an easy experience and a well run business with no glitches and only help when you needed it.  I will use them again for kid #2 and am happy to recommend them. Had my driving test today (passed with ease) and couldn't be any happier with my learning experience. I had Louise as my instructor, and he definitely does not fit the stereotype of a boring driving instructor. He made my lessons fun and easy to learn with, so much in fact that I looked forward to my lessons. Even when schedualing mix ups happen and I had another instructor (Chris) even with him I felt the same sense of excitement to learn. It's been about a year since I've gotten my licenses and I give props to Abel driving school. I applied for only 6 sessions but I honestly only needed about 4 because how they taught. My first lesson, I got an instructor that I will not name.. but he was a horrible instructor... in the middle of our lesson he literally told me to the gas station because he had to pump gas.. LIKE WHAT? Shouldn't you do that before my session with you?! Thankfully, I called in and asked for another instructor named Edgar... BOY! BEST INSTRUCTOR EVER! Edgar is honestly kinda strict? But he gives the best advice and instructions in order for you to become the best driver.The only thing I was a bit iffy, other than my first instructor, was the fact that I didn't really get to practice on the freeway. He was truly the best instructor I could have asked for. He was kind, patient, and truly cares for his students to be the best and safest drivers they can be. I can't thank this institution enough. I never thought I can get my drivers license. And, here I am with a drivers license. All special thanks to Rosie and Jose.I thank Rosie for everything I now know in driving, all the pointers that she gave me, and most of all, for being honest and pointing out every mistake I was doing. She's an amazing teacher, she's really tough and that's really what you want to learn. I needed someone to push me and she did. I am glad she did. Imagine spending $1000+ on driving classes. Imagine sitting in the DMV testing lane the day of your test, super pumped and ready to finally get your license. Then imagine the DMV examiner telling you that your car tires were too flat to safely take the test in, and that you can't take the test today. These guys are not at all what I had hoped for. I bought a package of three lesson for my daughter, paid in full and scheduled my appointment. Saturday at 1pm came and went, no show, no call, no apology! My instructor, Jose, was pretty much on his phone the entire time. He also cut my lesson 30 minutes short.... was almost an hour late.. Not a mean or bad guy, but if you're going to charge me over $65 an hour to teach me how to drive, don't be on your phone texting your other students to see if they passed their driving lesson.Overpriced for the service I got.... another reviewer said they felt like they were just driving him around and that's honestly exactly what it felt like. Just an update - after just 10 hours with Chris, I passed my driving test on my first try! :) I had never driven in all of my 19 years of life before I booked lessons with Abel's Driving School and I was beyond terrified, but my instructor, Chris, was great! He really calmed my nerves and gave me a lot of confidence by rarely ever using the brakes on his side and trusting me with the car. There was never a doubt about how bad of a driver I was. When I first got my permit at the age of 15 in Chicago, my mom feared for her life as she helped me practice. I didn't get my license and kind of failed the preliminary tests, so I never was courageous enough to try again. Fast forward 7 years and I still haven't attempted to get my license, but now live in LA where a license is a necessity. After practicing and almost dying a few times due to high anxiety and poor technique, I decided I need to go with a professional driving school which comes equipped with instructors and insurance (which alleviated some of my stress).I had a 2 hour lesson with Jose; Jose identified my weakness in anxiety and did his best to help me calm my nerves. I became a lot smoother of a driver and he helped me work on the things I was still pretty shaky on. My favorite part about driving with Jose rather than practicing with my mom or boyfriend was that he had utmost faith in me and didn't scream or panic when I made a mistake. His calmness helped me feel less anxious and gave me the confidence to take my driving test. In addition, these instructors are very familiar with the route you'd be taking at the DMV and also any tricks you need to know beforehand. This place is great, the office staff is really nice and very accommodating when trying to schedule lesson times. My instructor was really nice guy, he tries to teach not only how to drive but how to be safe and a defensive driver. I felt safe in the car with him, he gives constant instruction the whole time while driving. He is also patient and real, he will let you know if he thinks you are ready for the road test or not and what you need to work on. I took about 5 lessons with Ahmed and passed on my first try in December!!!!!! The other instructors I would see around also seem very friendly. I would definitely recommend this place. Read Less

I kind of chose this place because it was close to home even though the prices were a little higher than competitive schools. I called the office and the lady who spoke to me was sweet but as soon as I gave them the money they totally treated me differently. The service provided wasn't even half of what they promised or what I expected. Get everything in writing before you give them your credit card information as they have a tendency to overcharge excessively for services not delivered. He was honest with me about when I should take my next lesson instead of just telling me to come back again and again only to take more of my money.
