Absolutely useless and would not recommend them. I did the traffic school with them and they sent me an email saying that it was accepted by the court for my speeding ticket but it wasn't.The traffic school told me it was accepted and did not notify me that it was rejected. I was unaware of any fees and they did not tell me to check that it was accepted. Read Less

My wife recently had 9 lessons in this school with instructor Frank. Everything was great from booking process to lessons them selves - new car, seems professional instructor. But NOT with the most important piece - exam at DMV, where they've sent different instructor who totally demotivated student by interfering all the time and saying that everything is done wrong, as well as he was on significantly older car, which is simply not as smooth as brand new. I think that this is the worst things you could do to newbie driver, so obviously we failed our driving test. And the most frustrating part here is that nobody has notified us that it will be different instructor on different car.When I called afterwards to ask how could that happen, the first thing that I've been told is that "it's student`s fault, when you're ready then you're ready" and that "it was very similar car"... yeah right I get it, I'm not blaming anybody for the exam result, but you could have called me and clearly mention changed circumstances for exam appointment... As well as your instructor has given green light for the driving test.At the end we had to go to another school, where we took 3 lessons and successfully passed DMV test. Read Less

They have very friendly and experienced driving instructors. Frank (instructor) was a great teacher. Very nice, calm, understanding, and is a very good instructor. The intructor was show up with his dammaged car. No air condition, pedal of both brake and gas have a problem with a terrible sound. Car was shaking if I press a gas pedal. I complained immedialy with the intructor but he ignored me and try to turn the fact to talk another subject. Call it keeping my DMV record clean, with a smile!A while ago, a dad came up to me and thanked me for stopping my car and waiting, while he walked his young daughter across the library parking lot!  I mentioned that I'd recently completed traffic school, & he commented that I must have gotten something out of it. A1 is a reliable & accredited driving school. My instructor, Frank, is amazing! His instructions & helpful tips were clear, simple, all around easy to follow and listen to. I used to struggle with driving anxiety but with a positive, happy-go-lucky instructor like Frank, it goes away and makes driving less scary. I feel comfortable & safe. Awesome experience. They are very flexible with scheduling and they follow up with you step by step. When you want to schedule ask for George/Geo he's quite awesome, friendly, and goes the extra mile (pun intended?) to make sure you know what you're doing. Would give it zero stars if available... Do not use this company!!!..... After I paid them it took over a month to schedule an appointment( We need a total of 3 classes. . They called me on a Saturday said they had a cancellation if we wanted it and of course we said yes told them specifically I wanted to keep my other appointment as well. Received an email minutes later that they canceled I responded directly and called that following work day and they still canceled it!!!!! Now they are telling me I have to wait another month!!!.. Horrible!.. The guy who showed up for the appointment was half hour late and didn't even complete the 2 hour training!!!... Requested a refund.. Read Less

Jackie who answer the phone for this company is probably the rudest person I have ever spoken to!  I was allowed to sign up and pay several hundred dollars for my son's training, but when I called to schedule the driving portion was told that I was out of the area.  I was told by Jackie that it was on me and my fault for not knowing that they would not cover my area, even though they clearly advertise Santa Monica and surrounding areas and I am 1.2 miles from Montana Ave off PCH.  I asked for a refund so I could arrange with another driving school that services my area, and as I asked for a confirmation number Jackie spoke over me and then hung up on me.  I was told that I would have a refund in 2 weeks less $25 cancellation fee.  I will send an update review when and if I get my refund. I Had an appointment set for 6 pm for a behind the wheel driving, waited outside for 50 minutes and never got a single phone call or text from the driving school. My appointment was set outside of their buisness hours so I had no way of contacting them, and when I did the call went straight to voicemail. I had lessons under A1 recently. My teachers were Abraham, Jasper and Jim respectively for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd sessions.  All 3 were good and punctual instructors with varying personalities and teaching styles.  I was most grateful that Jim brought me around the DMV though where I was going to take my behind-the-wheel driving test.  It gave me an idea what to expect which allowed me to be more relaxed on the day of the test.  I ended up getting a perfect score on the behind-the-wheel test on my one and only attempt thanks in large part to the skills I honed under their tutelage.  So for those searching for a driving school, A1 is certainly a good choice. This is a review just off my first lesson. I was so happy with my instructor Geo today. He was funny, kept me calm, and had me smiling the whole time. I was nervous the second I got in the car, and I told him that. To my surprise, I found myself forgetting my nerves even when other drivers were around! I still need some work, no doubt, but he was considerate and gave on point guidance. A-1 Driving School is a top notch place. I read all the reviews, and the bad ones sound very rare. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, especially as Geo for an instructor. I give only 4 stars instead of 5 because it was only my first lesson. My only criticism is timing. I was fortunate enough to not be busy when he showed up early. I see on this page that lateness and my case of earliness is apparent. Stay on schedule is all. Great experience! Surprising part was my instructor had much more confidence than I had that I will pass the Drive test in 1st attempt! This instructor has hell lot of patience and is so cool and friendly - start of my class, my view of me driving in US was different and after 1 class - I could see myself driving in US! I recently moved from India to US and used to drive back in India. Amazing person to learn with, knows how to boost up confidence in his student and train him accordingly. I chew his brains a lot with my questions during my class - as in why not this way etc etc and he answered them all explaining the rules! So do i still need to mention his name here...... After finding out my 17 yr old needs behind the wheel, I searched yelp for a good driving school. I came across A1 and with their good reviews and reasonable rates I chose to entrust them to teach my child how to drive. I am glad I did! My son had Geoff as instructor and he thought he was great. He said he was very thorough and explained  the reasoning behind everything, which was greatly appreciated because as a teenager my child believes nothing his father and I say. I had taken a 2 hour driving lesson from them at the end of the lesson my instructor asked for my payment and I had already given my credit card number over the phone and he said it was just a safety measure so we payed in cash and he said they won't charge my card. Then I received my credit card statement saying I was charged by them, I called them and all the woman kept telling me was that we have to check our records and see IF we charged you twice and I KNOW they did. She said she'd call me back but never did I had called so many times and I had to block my number for her to pick up and she said the same thing. So I went to their office in culver city and on their website it says they open at 8, we went to their door and it said they opened at 8 everyday.... It was 9 and there was no one inside. It was such a hassle just to get ahold of them and when I did they didn't provide any service. In the end I had to call my credit card company and tell them and they took out the charges and won't be giving any money to the school. I wonder what happened to the money I gave to the instructor. I would like thank A1 driving School for accompanying me all the way to my behind the wheel driving test. I had 4 hours session with them and it’s really worth it. I passed my behind the wheel driving test with flying colors and I only took it once! Geo was my instructor and he did all the best of his ability to make me a good driver! He instructs well and he is very systematic in terms of driving! I gained my confidence in the road and I was able to deal with different traffic situations and managed it very well! If you value your time then think twice about doing business with this driving school.. I booked a 6 hr (3 sessions) class of driving with this company. This was over the course of a weekend starting friday.On day one,  the instructor calls a couple of hours before the class saying he is going to be late by an hour. We were looking at a drive time at dusk and for someone who is learning to drive it is always good to start when there is some daylight. So I decided to cancel the session for the day.The next day's session was in the afternoon. The instructor calls up at the scheduled time and says he is going to be late by 15 min but he arrived 30 mins late. Fine, we chose to give him a break and decided to continue with the lesson.The next weekend the instructor calls up 10 min before the session and says he will be 30 mins late. We waited and waited and when the time came, he calls back again saying he may not be able to make it even within the next 30 minWe put our weekend plans on hold for two weeks for these instructors to come up with lame reasons for their tardiness instead of being on time and understand the value of others time.If you don't want to get stiffed or stood up, There are several other schools in the area and they do a hell of a job keeping time and customers happy.The 2 stars are because:1. The instructor who gave the first lesson did a good job teaching2. The instructor who was scheduled to take the second lesson was apologetic for his inability to turn up at the scheduled time. So I was looking for a decent driving school that would fit my work schedual.I called and made my lesson appointments and bam it was magic after that.I didnt have any behind the wheel experience before taking lessons.The first lesson was with a calm instructor and was really easy to learn from.My last 2 lessons were with a real kickback guy who taught me alot of little tricks.They went over how the test was going to be and were really honest about were I was my driving skills were at.Pick A1 its within budget and the instructors are great!! I would recommend A1 to everyone who is learning to drive. I never had to drive until I move to USA and I have had another school but they were less than professional. I was very apprehensive after my relatively bad experience with the previous school, but Frank's calmness and politeness in my first lesson already took all my worries away. Frank was very patient and he helped me tackled my weaknesses very effectively.I had Geo in my last two lessons and he has a completely opposite demeanour to Frank. He's very energetic, positive, funny and friendly. I was comfortable in the car in no time and because of his jokes I quickly got over my mistakes, laughed them off and moved on. I had failed the behind-the-wheel driving test five times before I found A1 Driving & Traffic School. I had driven with a permit for many years but always messed up in some ways when I took the driving tests. Therefore, I really needed a driving coach who could help me get my driver's license at the sixth try, and Geo was the guy!One thing Geo did differently from my previous driving coaches was that he did not "drive for me." There were several times that I went too close to the car in front of me but I was able to stop before I "kissed" those cars. When most driving coaches would have stepped on the brake for me (some might even scream out due to panic,) Geo gave me the opportunities to feel how much time I might need to safely stop my car. With his calm attitude, I felt I was trustworthy and gradually built up my confidence in driving. After Geo's training, I truly believe that I can be a good driver without anyone telling me "what to do" when I drive alone in the future.I took fourteen 2-hour sessions with Geo within one month, and had practiced driving around the general Los Angeles areas including local streets and highways, even on the winding roads in Laurel Canyon. We usually had the radio on and chatted like friends. Although Geo seemed to be casual, he was quite alert when I drove. He gave comprehensible instructions when I didn't know how to react to the road situations, and his advices indeed helped me improve my driving skills.All in all, I had very happy learning experiences with Geo and A1 Driving & Traffic School (Jackie and Abraham were also very patient when I talked to them.)
