Based on all the negative reviews online, I was rather nervous for my first lesson. I have to admit that to individuals who aren't proficient in Mandarin will definitely have a hard time understanding instructors. However, if you are bilingual, then there's not much to worry about. My teacher, Frank, was an enthusiastic older man who taught quite well and helped me get the hang of driving much faster than I expected. Hello, My review is for the instructor "Steven". I am just back from the drive test at DMV Santa Clara and I passed in the first attempt. All thanks to him. Before taking my driving classes, I had absolutely no experience of driving, cars, road sense, sense of directions, sense of everything about driving. very patient, but he is also persistent at helping you get things right. He's not annoyed when you make a mistake, but he helps you feel annoyed by your own mistakes such that you avoid them. E.g. even after he told me to keep checking all the directions when approaching intersections, I kept passing intersections without looking; and he would make "ERRRRR" (a red-error-button-noise-ish-sound) when I did that. Coach He is a thorough and practical driving instructor. He teaches from the basics and then advanced skills like getting on and off freeway, and finally he is thorough with the neighborhood around the DMV, pointing out traps and tricky areas to beware of. He also encourages parents to sit in the back and take notes. My teenage son passed on his first try at a DMV where most people say is hard and not easy to pass with an almost perfect score. I called the office to book my lessons and requested Steven as my instructor since I heard good things about him from my friend who also took lessons with him. He did not disappoint.Here is why Steven is wonderful:- He was never late. Always either on time or early.- He is very patient and friendly. He calmly corrected my mistakes and never yelled at me. He gave compliments where appropriate to give me confidence.- His English was good. I was able to understand everything he said, unlike when I was with another instructor in the past.- He offered excellent advice on how to drive safely. I took about 10 or more classes with SDS, and cleared my driving test in first attempt. Ken was my driving instructor and he made sure I understood the regulations and he was extremely patient with me while I worked on my driving skills. He doesn't give up nor lets you give up. We practiced around the DMV area to get comfortable with the roads there and he makes sure you understand the whys? and don't forget the traffic rules and regulations. I felt confident after about 5 lessons with him. He was patient enough to wait for me on some days when I got held at work. SDS was also very good with sending timely reminders and was kind enough to reschedule one of my classes last minute. Thank you, I highly recommend Success Driving School if you really want to learn to be a better driver, and not just pass the test. No shortcuts here, they give you enough time, attention (one-on-one lessons) and practice. And for their price, they are really better than other driving schools (one of the other schools I went to had 2-3 students sit at the back while the instructor taught me and he made sure he pointed every mistake of mine to others to have them not do it, it was embarrassing) . Communication could be a little challenge, with everyone having different accents, I struggled the first few classes but once I got past that, I was very comfortable with my instructor. Thanks, Ken. I was one of them who thought driving classes aren't really useful if someone else can teach. These guys are really good at what they do. They make sure they communicate all rules, check your errors and correct you.  They also give a thorough practice near the DMV so that you are fully prepared. I had limited prior driving experience outside the US. I took an evaluation lesson a week before the test when I was recommended two more classes - which really helped me to pass my test in one go. If you come to this school, remember to ask for any instructor BESIDES KEN. I had an instructor on my first lesson called Karrar and he was really nice and actually taught me something. Karrar was very polite and encouraging.BUT. My lessons after were all taught by Ken. To be honest, he made me hate driving. Besides always arriving late and returning earlier than the set time, you couldn't understand what he was saying half of the time, he's not encouraging. Every time I do sometime wrong, his rude tone when he "corrects" me is like if he is yelling at me and saying if I was stupid. During the first lesson, he realized that the car was low on gas so he took me to put in gas. I paid him to teach me how to drive... NOT TO TEACH ME THESE SIMPLE THINGS MY PARENTS CAN TEACH ME. That was the first part. But the part that pisses me off the most were his actions. When I was steering tire wrong, he always touches my arm and pushes it. Also, Ken has his own preferred way of stepping on the pedal by only swinging his knee. I did try his method but I did not find it comfortable so I decided not to use it. He should respect that since it's not a requirement of the driving test of how I step on the pedal. But, this man doesn't. There are times when he sees me not stepping on the pedals his way, or times when I was suppose to step on gas or cover brake and I wasn't, he would touch and push my leg. As a female, it made EXTREMELY uncomfortable that a male teacher is touching my arm and leg. To the point that I had to yell at him and tell him to stop touching me. He was taken back and I can tell that he was pissed. We continued the lesson but I could tell that he wasn't helping me at his very best after I yelled at him. Ken was a terrible instructor who did not explain the rules well, is discouraging and rude, and most importantly, TOUCHES YOU when you drive. Never coming back to this school. Read Less

I learned driving from my partner which taught me how to drive in real life but driving test is a different world. I failed twice so for the last shot, i decided to ask for professional help. I took 3 lessons with Tran (Phuong). She was very helpful. She let me drive and pointed out the mistakes i made. On the test day, while waiting for my turn, she went through everything again. Thanks to the instructor and the school, i finally got my license on the last day of the year. I am way more confident to drive now, even on highway. I took my test in Santa Clara btw as I am familiar with the roads here. It's quite important to get used to the roads and routes in the area that you choose to take the test. Read Less

I booked my lessons with them and had really bad experience. For the first lesson they sent some female instructor who was rude and then for the second lesson they sent Jerry and I believe he was one of the best instructors. He taught me a lot of basic rules related to driving. Day before my behind-the-wheel, I called them asked them to change my instructor as I was not comfortable with that lady but they didn't and keep pushing me to go with her and convinced me that she is a good teacher. For behind-the-wheel, again that Female instructor came and just before my test she started telling me that I won't pass my exam, not once but thrice. The lady over the phone is very courteous and helps you with all your problems. They send out reminder messages a day before your driving lesson is scheduled.- I cannot miss out on writing about Ken. He is a wonderful instructor, starts from the very basics of driving and helps you increase your confidence level gradually. Although I had previous experience of driving a car in my home country Ken picked up a few finer points on which I should improve and avoid mistakes during the test. This is the reason that I reached out to them at the beginning.- When I called them, the lady on the phone is very helpful, polite with beautiful voice. She helped me schedule the class. She was very patient as I made several changes.- Now to the main point. Ken is perfect! Of course, he knows everything about the test and taught/trained me to the test standard. Moreover, he is every good at understanding my emotion and my fears. With Ken's help, I overcome my fear toward driving and find myself comfortable to control the car and drive safely! Today was my first attempt in Behind the Wheel test and I got a pass! Sandy was my instructor and I would highly recommend her.She speaks fluent Cantonese & Mandarin and is able to give firm and clear instructions. I had five lessons with her. At first we practiced in residential areas for the basics. In the second lesson we started to get real onto the main roads. In the last two lessons, she thinks that I am okay for the test so she took me to the freeway to learn something more than required in the test! I appreciate this very much as I really want to "learn to drive", not only just wanted to pass a test. (Of course, passing is important and I was reminded for the points to notice :D) Great experience with the school. Instructors are punctual and there is text reminder from school a day before. No contracts and pay lesson by lesson. Tips: The phone lady understands Chinese and do plan ahead and book multiple lessons 2-3 days before or your favorite instructor may be fully booked.It would be great if the school could have a online booking system showing schedules. Success Driving School helped me learn driving and pass my Behind the wheel test in first attempt. I had my driving lessons with Jack, he was very knowledgable, patient, and through. He helped me gain confidence in my driving from the day 1. After every session, he gave me feedback on how well I am doing and how I can improve certain things. This is a public service announcement....my 15 year old daughter is learning to drive.  For your safety and the safety of others, please remain in your homes for the duration of her lessons.  Haha!!!I really wanted to like this driving school.  Both the lady I made the appointment with and the instructor were so nice.  What I didn't like it that the instructor spent the first 45 minutes of my daughter's 2 hour lesson in my driveway going over questions from the permit test my daughter already passed.  I was paying for driving lessons not sitting in the driveway and going over rules of the road.  My daughter also said she struggled with understanding the instructor.  I think it was a language thing.  We are an Asian family, but we don't speak Mandarin or Cantonese.  Success Driving School may be a good match if you or your child speak those languages.  I decided on Success Driving School because of the great yelp reviews, but I should have gone with my friends' recommendation instead.  My daughter said it was cool to drive a Prius.
