Why isn't no star an option?. We prescheduled and prepaid for two 2 hour lessons with Bakker and both times, they were over an hour late. The first lesson was at 5:30 after school, the UBER / UBER Eats car shows up around 6:30 (draw your own conclusions). There was no messaging other than the initial he would be 15' late and the lesson actually less than 2 hours. The 2nd lesson was scheduled for 4:00pm yesterday (Sunday) and it was worse (yes it's possible). He first messaged that he would be 20' late. We later discovered that the phone he messaged from was not even his, but a 3rd party! Whaaat? Yes we pinged that phone and someone else answered and said the driver used his phone. He apparently doesn't carry a phone with him. OMG - but her driver test is this week so our options are pretty limited. Then he calls and says he returned to Escondido because he didn't see anyone and entered our complex, wearing his Bakker jacket , and walked all over. She waited out there for him until 5:00 so the veracity of this I am not certain of. We live in what amounts to a glass house and I am pretty sure we would have seen a man wearing a Bakker driving jacket who looked like he didn't live in the complex. Anyway, he returns with a mobile phone and finally arrives at 6:30 - two and a half hours after the scheduled appointment. IN BRIEF, the drivers for BDS have NO (NONE, ZILCH) respect for our time - completely UNPROFESSIONAL. And no they did not offered any adjustment to the cost. BUYER BEWARE. Read Less

My 17-year old daughter wanted a female instructor, so we selected Christine. Just as her bio states, Christine is gentle and patient! She provides just the right mixture of nurturing instruction and fun. She would be wonderful for any teenage girl, and no doubt for boys too. The staff at Bakkers are very pleasant and flexible about setup and scheduling. So in summary, I recommend Bakkers without hesitation. (This is definitely not the case with all driving schools. We've had poor experiences elsewhere.) Read Less

This is a great driving school! There are lots of choices when it comes to driving schools, but we have been very pleased in every way with Bakkers. The testing modules are very helpful and come complete with timers so you always know where you are in the process. The driving instructor that we had (Paul) was just fantastic! Paul was very patient and kind with our daughter and he gave her many useful tips and she came away from the lesson with a lot more confidence. We highly recommend Bakkers. Read Less

I called a couple months ago before my son got his permit. The woman on the phone (owner I believe) was extremely pushy. I needed to know information about pricing, (lack of options on rates and packages on their site so I HAD to call) what to expect and how they'd pick up my son for the classes. She didn't want to give me the prices over the phone. She barked them at me and said they typically don't give that info out until their 1st lesson...REALLY!? Should I expect to pay $50 or $1,000? It's absurd to not offer that.I expected to be on the phone for a short period of time...but once she told me the prices (angry as she was), she went into a rant about how they are a small local business and how their instructors are better than any others. Normally we would prefer to support local mom and pop businesses..but there is something about not wanting to give out a starting rate or making someone wait until their 1st driving lesson to get the package rates. We NEED to decided how much to pay, how many lessons to get our son and to plan it out. And to be honest. All driving schools have to go through the same classes and maintenance on their cars. Before I hung up, she insisted I make an appointment. I had too much info to NOT make an appt. She suggested my son be picked up from school and dropped off at our home...pretty convenient so I made the appointment. They never showed up. They had his cell and mine...not a call, not a text a total no show. Thanks for wasting our time! Read Less

My daughter completed her third lesson today. She is scheduled for a driving test this week. Things went smooth for us. The lessons were scheduled online and the instructors were on time. In fact, the third lesson was longer than what I paid for because the instructor wanted to make sure, that my daughter would pass the first time. He also told me that if she fails the first time, which he was sure would not happen, they would schedule another lesson for free. I felt compelled to post my long overdue review of Bakker's after reading over the other reviews here. Our story:My husband's nephew (15 1/2 years old) is staying with us to finish his problematic high school career. Long story behind this but things are working out better for him with us than they were back at home.Yes. He's dying to earn his drivers license. Unfortunately, since he grew up driving cars around the boonies (unlicensed) back home and has helped his dad repair their truck, he thinks he knows it all about operating moving vehicles. Never mind the fact that he hasn't yet evolved the good judgement to be a safe driver. We hired Bakkers for lessons. Crystal was (and is) his appointed driving instructor. She's courteous, warm, has been prompt to date and (most importantly of all to my mind) she focuses on teaching these student drivers respect for the rules of the road. Our nephew can be very charming and very funny---he's a fun, bright kid. The last thing we want is for him to schmooze some driving instructor into making his lessons into a playtime. He has enough buddies in his life -- more than enough. Trust me on that one.Whether we like to think about it or not--traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for people under the age of 25. I never want to hear that this kid lost his life or hurt someone else by playing around behind the wheel of a car. I'm telling you straight. He's had his first two lessons so far. He returns home thrilled and frankly, more respectful of traffic rules than he ever was before. Nope--Crystal doesn't audition to be his next BFF---she's something better than that: she's part of our plan to keep our wild-child alive. Read Less

I made an appointment online by selecting an appointment time. I filled in the form that popped up and entered my information. I hit "make appointment" and thought I was done. No one showed up for the appointment. I called and they had all my info. (name, address, etc.) but did not have us on the schedule. I thought it was my fault in how I did the booking online (although I'll never really know), so I scheduled a second appt. right then on the phone. Our 1st appt. had been made for instructor Lupita. When I asked if we could have the same person, I was told her car was having problems. (I'm not sure I like the idea of relying on the car maintenance of an instructor's personal car, as opposed to a company's car.) She assured us that Crystal was just as good as Lupita. When Crystal showed up, she was 45 minutes late (no call). I was standing outside waiting. She literally just got out of the car and stood there. There was no apology and she didn't even have the social skills to introduce herself... the most awkward interaction I've ever had. I reached out my hand and introduced myself. I asked about the appt. time and she said she was late due to car troubles. (Not very reassuring to a parent whose child is going to drive it.) She said she had to stop to get brake fluid. Okay, good reason, but why not call me? I wanted to say no, and stop the appointment right then, but knew how disappointed my daughter would be: this would be the second time missing out on finally being able to drive. So, reluctantly, I watched them drive away without telling my daughter my thoughts.I was betting that the instructor would not even have the courtesy to walk my daughter to the door and tell me how it went. I was right. When my daughter walked into the house, the first thing she said was, "That was the most socially awkward person I have ever met, and I had to spend two hours in a car with her!" This review is not meant to be mean. I'm sure in other circumstances, Crystal is a lovely person, but she should not be a driving instructor. I will not get into the details of my daughter's recounting of the actual lesson, but I will say it was not what I would have expected and I will be booking with another company. Read Less

We used Bakker's Driving School for my teenage daughter and had a wonderful experience!  Farrah Beattie was my daughter's instructor and she was wonderful!  Always on time, connected well with my daughter, very thorough.   They list each instructor's bio online.   I loved the fact that I could make or change appointments online too .  Their prices are fair and I could pay for each lesson as we went.  No need to pay all upfront.  And my daughter passed on the first try.  I appreciate that if your child fails the road test they offer free lessons until they pass. I would give no stars if that was possible. Maybe even minus starts. After making an appointment, 3 weeks away as it was the only opening, we received two confirmation emails from the company. One of which stated that if we were not thereat the time the driving instructor showed up, that we would be charged if we had not cancelled. The long awaited day came. I took off work and had to take my daughter out of school early and we waited and waited for the instructor to show up. At the 10 minute late mark, I called the company and was put on hold for 15 minutes only to be told that a manager would be calling me back. After 5 more minutes the manager called me back and informed me that the instructor was not coming. At this point, I am very frustrated as I had taken off work, my daughter took off from school and this is now the SECOND time this has happened to me with this same company. I believed them when they told me it was the driver last time but I can now see it is not.The manager was rude, told me this "happens all the time", and was unwilling to find someone else tom come out in any less time than a week. He actually laughed when I asked if we could get a discount for our trouble. He said they had no drivers today at all and that he was not able to tell me when one would be available because he was not in the office and that he would call me back when it was convenient for HIM!As I work for a high school, I will be telling EVERY parent and student I know about how horrible this company is. I am now going to American Driving School. They were at least accomodating and nice on the phone. Read Less

The instructors related well with the teens, they were on time (if not early!), considerate, and the prices were fair.  The instructors even came in to talk to ME (parent) about the kids and how they could improve for next time. The Bakker's people really care about the teens they teach.  They may not have the super-model cute receptionist at the front trying to lure you into joining, but who cares?!? That's not what you're paying for!  Good driving lessons is what your teen needs and someone who is serious about it. ALL THREE of my teen boys passed the driving tests on the first time, one of them having passed with a perfect score!! The other darn near close to that!  I give Bakker's a A+. Read Less

Beware of Bakker Driving School. The instructor would only take my son on the freeway. Anyone can teach a kid to drive straight. The same instructor also saw fit to have my son drive to a fast food restaurant & waste lesson time eating instead of driving. For his final lesson I called an complain. And requested my son actually be taught to turn properly, make safe u-turns & 3 point turns & parallel park. I was told he would gave a different instructor and be informed. The new instructor said he could only do so much in a single lesson & that my son would never pass a road test today. He also showed up in an SUV when my son only had experience in a sedan. He would yell at my son for struggling with blond spots in an SUV w/o experience. So after taking my son out repeatedly but knowing that I am not an instructor I called Bakkers & said listen he was never given his true lessons. My son has a road test in Oct. I need a one hour lesson & use of the car for his road rest. I explained he only has time fir an hour lesson because of school & would not need the extra lesson had he been taught properly. I was told I would have to pay for two hours even if it was just an hour. I was told that was in addition to paying additional money to use the car. I requested an exception and allow us to pay for one hour & the use of the car since i shouldn't have to pay for an extra hour that we were not using.one would think that was a reasonable request right? since my son never received proper lessons for the money that I spent. I was told the owner would call back. The owner left a voicemail & I returned his call. His voice in the message sounded absolutely hostile. When I reached him live he sounds enraged. He accused me of lying about the last instructor. I explained it was the guy who die all the other lessons that was the slacker. He said I believe it about Sam because he has not been teaching a year. I said if you believe that about him he shouldn't be reaching. The owner said well that's not fair it's your job as the parent to teach him to drive. That's why you are required to take him out 50+ hours. I said I paid you a lot of money to teach him to Drive. It's your job to teach him the fundamentals & my job to take him out practicing. I held up my end but I am not a trains instructor. The owner Rod said verbatim "" all you are is a complainer full of hot air & complaints, so I don't want to help you!"" my response ""then I want my money back"" Rod's response "" I will not give you your money back because I just don't care"" since we did not get actual set Ices paid for I said ""well then I will report you to the BBB"" his response ""Do what you want... I don't care!"" and he hung up. It is clear this cut doesn't care about his customer, as specially if he chooses to dislike them. You see after they sell you a package of lessons they are usually done with you. The likelihood of your being a repeat customer is slim. So since they have no possibility of customer retention they have no reason to honor their end. He made that clear because is Rods own words he just does not care. If you do not heed my warning you better hope you get what you paid for because they won't give you your money back. And on one final note, the so-called instructor who is teaching under a year... I was told my son was getting some with years of experience. I still don't know if they lied to get the sale or are lying now to cover their fraudulent rear ends. Read Less

Bakkers helped us tremendously!!!  Our 2 teens (1 more to go) said the courses were very good.  They helped us every step of the way, especially w/ being prepared for DMV appointments.  We (parents) accidentally let our son's permit expire so he needed to redo the written test.  He got 0 wrong the first time.  I went to Bakkers, and they went through everything to bring.  When I suggested I schedule his driving test right after the written, they informed me Bakkers needed to sign off his permit before that could happen, but he could take both the same day.  At DMV, we had the fastest, smoothest time ever for this appt.  A mom and daughter were at the counter w/ the same problem we had: her permit had expired.  They had tried to renew the license online (you can't) and walked in, and were given the form Bakkers had given us.  We had come w/ an appt., fully prepared and I pointed out their situation to my son.  He said "they should have gone to Bakkers"!!!

I was happy with them and would recommend them.Updating on 12/19 again to let you know that she got her D.L. Read Less

Read Less

I found Bakker's to be quite worth it... I've had my 3 teens go through the program with great success each time.
