I'd left a message on the number listed on the website after reading the reviews, as I am 23 and had never gotten my license, having been out of country for many years, where owning a car is often more trouble than help, and then, having returned to the US, I'd always either taken the bus or had my family or husband to drive me. Since moving to San Diego, I realised that not being able to drive in the city is extremely inconvenient, but I also needed somebody who was patient and didn't treat me like another teenager. The good: Candi contacted me within a day, and we'd set up the three initial lessons for 2 weeks after. She was very calm and organised during our first lesson, very cheerful, and kept me at ease about driving. She would take the initiative to remind me about things ("signal, shoulder check") as we repeated lane changes and turns over and over again, until I felt confident. She, however, knew how to sit back and not hinder me as I made little mistakes as long as it seemed I was recognising them, but she would also pick up on the ones I didn't recognise. By my second lesson, she'd had me drive out of the residential neighbourhood into traffic, and the course involved a mixture of speed limits, different commercial, residential, and school zones, inclines and declines, and plenty of stop signs for practice. I drove us back to my apartment at the end of the lesson! The bad: She had to reschedule the second lesson for a few hours later due to some DMV work, which was fine. The third lesson, however, I'd had to help my mom with some last-minute errands, so I left a message for her at 6am, that day, hoping a 4-hour window would be enough. I guess that was the office line, though, because she called me for our lesson on a different number. I apologised and asked if we could reschedule. She was still cheerful and agreed, so I breathed a sigh of relief. She called me again the following week, but I didn't get the voicemail until a day and a half later (maybe it's AT&T?). I called her back and agreed to her proposed lesson time, but the day before the lesson, she texted me to reschedule. Since I wasn't able to get back to her early enough, it was only fair that she'd already had plans. The next week went by, however, and I didn't hear from her, so I texted her back, just as a casual way of asking. After a few days, I left a voicemail as well. As the next week came to a close, I left her another two voicemails, one on the listed number and one on the number from which she texted me. It is now the 4th week, and I still haven't heard back from her. I'm hoping this was only due to holiday shopping/preparations, but I really don't know what's going on or what to do now! Overall: Candi is a great instructor, and I do hope to take more lessons from her, as I like her way of teaching and her attitude. I only wish there was some method of getting in contact with her!
