If I could rate this -1 I would. This is my first negative review with yelp. When you are dealing with something as sensitive as teaching your teen to drive you want it as safe and thorough as possible. Parent policy: other very reputable schools encourage parents to come along for the ride to hear the instructions given for consistency. I really could have used a few free hours, but I want to do this right, so I planned on coming along. I show up at 7 am in alameda (35 min from home) and I have a instructor smile and tell me parents aren't allowed in the car. First he lied and said it was his insurance policy. When I told him I had my own policy I didn't need his. He said it was his companies policy. When I pulled up the website and read out loud the description of the website and its policies there was no policy excluding parents. Package vs. one session policyWhen I called to make an appointment I asked the nice man on the phone if I could do a single session. I wasn't sure if timing would work with the start of school to use a driving school in alameda. He said I could. When I broke down the cost it literally was pennies different in cost to pay for three sessions or pay for one. No brainer, let's do one. I also have read reviews of driving school companies taking your money and then rescheduling a bunch of times. So, I said let's do a deposit and I will pay the balance that morning if we actually do this. The instructor outright refused to let me come. Once I realized I would not be able to go with my son I finally told my son to go anyway, we were only paying for one session and I wanted him to have the permit signed off on. In general, Alameda is too far and this already seemed super sketchy. The instructor: sher mahbob showed up 10 minutes late, in last nights clothes  and demanded I pay for all three sessions. It wasn't our agreement when I made the appointment. When I told him I only wanted to pay for one he refused to take my son. Stood around in the parking lot for 20 min stated it was too late and left. He said "I'm sorry for the inconvenience, your deposit will be returned to you". I've called the manager eight times since our first call at 6:56am when I spoke to him and he said the trainer was 10 minutes late. He hasn't answered my call since. I will update this post when I get an answer about getting my deposit back. Long story short, these guys are available because they aren't reputable. If you really care about your teen and their training behind the wheel get in line in a reputable business that takes your teens driving seriously. As seriously as you do. Read Less

My experience with the Academic Driving School was very satisfactory and the service provided of great professionalism. My instructor was Sher who is patient, experienced, and punctual. They were very helpful and accommodated some not so practical requests that I had without any problems. Thanks mostly to the school I passed my test easily. Read Less
