Something seemed fishy from day one. I was sent here by CRST and they had me teaching other students from my first day on the yard. I was mistreated gor asking for better training. And I believe they had rackets set up with their third party testing facilities and the hotel that students were placed in. I saw students who could not drive get their license with no problem while drivers who could drive failed multiple times. I have a very detailed idea as to what the deal was. I saw enough in the 3 weeks I was there tk leave after failing the first time. I should not have failed... I have driven cdl before and I was training the other students who passed. I was tested on a different field than other students and the tandems were moved so far forward that I had a 14 ft overhang to do a true 90 alley dock... Mathematically impossible... When I challenged it, my next test date was moved more than 20 days away... When I questioned the decision I was told I had no right... The FBI closed them down today... I will be a witness against them if I am asked! I was able to gain insight fron some instructors and other students... There were instructors who didnt even have cdl licenses..... I could write a book on the violations I witnessed while attending this school... Our lives were risked repeatedly by these people. I can honestly say my sweat and tears went into obtaining my CDLs. I was there longer than the program is set out for but the instructors never gave up on me. The instructors are not going to baby you you have to put the effort in. If they see you want it they are going to do everything in their power to help you. Like everyplace they have their downs but you have to keep a positive attitude. If u want it they are going to make sure you receive it. I am so grateful for all the instructors who had faith in me. I got my can here 6 years ago. If you are serious they are too. The equipment wasn't good but good enough for me to learn. I passed and was satisfied with my experience. This is the worse school I've ever seen in my life to attend the people are very rude they put u in a flea bag hotel with bed bugs I had bites all over me then they move me into another room and it had mold they don't feed u they consider part tarts and noodles a meal so when your recruiter tells you that they feed you 3 times a day it's a lie !!!! Students was going in other students rooms stealing while they were at school lucky for me I have been driving since i was 13 and the time I was there I coached more students than the instrutors did not to mention I got another job and they wouldn't verify that I went to school there they don't even pay u for orentation then they treat u horrible I wouldn't send my worse enemy to that school all the instructors do is get on the radio and tell u left right left right u in the box they don't give u no pointers on nothing and the classroom about to fall in so if u trying to go to CRST is not the company to work for and American truck driving academy in opelika Alabama is not the school for u I repeat don't go there!!!!!!!! I worked here for six months, and I gotta say I've worked at better places. The pay was okay except for the fact that they don't take out taxes. So instead of getting taxes back at tax season you are actually paying in. Next the employer was an I'll say an interesting person to work for. My only complaints would be that guy had a strong problem with his temper, and patience! Not to mention he cursed like a sailor, and had very little to no respect for others! And don't even get me started on his vise president of the company! She fired me just for the simple fact that I got tired of her disrespecting my spouse, and decided to stand up to her! I enjoyed it and learned what I needed to get my license. Gene was my instructor and I was having a little difficulty at first but he had me right and when I went and took my test I nailed it. So shout out to Gene if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have passed and got my license. Somewhere like that is how you make it. If you go in with a chappy attitude and aren't serious then your experience will be bad, if you go in with a good attitude and listen then it will be good. You truly get out what you put in! Every staff member knows what they are talking about. I entered in to the school as a yard dog, I put everything that I knew aside and applied everything that they taught me, and I came out on top! Gene, I can not say anything bad about, he's a great man and friend. Stacy, homies chill and knows his stuff, Lou, man Lou is one for the books. Look if you go there to learn and get on with your life, this is the place for you. If they can train you on sub par equipment you can succeed anywhere in life. Too many people showed up and treated it like it was a game because it wasn't luxurious. Show you're serious about it and instructors match it. The 3 weeks that I had to do in order to obtain my CDL was more than enough time with the exceptional trainers that they have. I would like to give a special shoutout to Joe and Gene they were great trainers who had to most impact on me. Also Donald and Jeff on the backing field were great as well. It's a great school if don't go there to play .if you go there and listen to the instructors you'll get it . first you got Eugene he'll get you ready for your learners permit test. Then Joe will hammer the pretrip into you. Donald will teach you straight back and offset yelling the whole time till you get right bring him some halls. gene is a good alley dock instructor like I said just listen an watch he is a sorry Alabama fan.. Stacey will teach you parallel .Phyllis and Lou... will take you over the road when Lou tells you not to do something don't do it if keep on he'll get your attention not to hurt you just to teach you so you don't hurt yourself or others. Truck Driving school is to teach you the basic skills in order to get your CDL. I am enrolled there now & the biggest problem at the school is not the instructors, up until yesterday when we had a meeting lead by Hubert , & they put their foot down about cell phones, everywhere you looked you would see somebody doing something on their phone. I would rather learn how to control a truck in this equipment so when I get to the test site the truck I am in will respond so much bet...ter. Pre-Trip is the toughest part of all , & Joe will drill it in your head, Gene on Alley dock will teach you to put it in the box, if you listen to him, but if he says hard right, & you turn left, the truck has done rolled 15 feet before you turn right, & now you have to pull up to fix it. Donald, the drill Seargent has got to walk 50 miles a day & how he still has a voice is beyond me. Keep it up Donald!!! Stacy was my straight back & he taught me, what that means in just one sentence , & when I learned that I have stressed to all my class mates just how important that maneuver really is because if you can't straight back, you can't pass a test no matter where you go. The next thing is while other students are doing the truck others are sleeping. If you are serious about CDL these guys will help you all they can. Now to my Queen Phillis my road instructor this woman has more patience than any woman on earth, driving down the road she is forever telling you downshift, upshift, downshift, when all else fails go to 6th gear it will pull you out of trouble, I was having trouble with that & she said ok lets fix it & we did. Their is not much Hubert don't know about a truck, & any student can go to him & he will do all he can to fix it, until 2 weeks ago I had never sat in the drivers seat of a truck, yes I have ridden with my son, & he taught me alot but these folks at the school are not the problem, its the students that want to focus on everything but driving a truck.
