Helen came highly recommended to me by a colleague who passed several years ago. As a student of Helen's I've found her to be a very kind, funny and down-to-earth person! As an instructor with a deep understanding of the learning process and how the brain acquires new skills, she has been working patiently with me since the beginning of my journey. Helen has the wonderful ability to identify the learning style of students and will then adapt her teaching methods to suit your individual needs. We would often review the on board camera footage, discuss and pinpoint what went wrong and how to avoid making the same mistake in future, and then immediately put these talking points into action and start working on them. I started lesson with Helen after failing my test 4 times. I had become an incredibly anxious driver and was over thinking everything whenever I got into a car. Helen’s calm, laid back approach put me at ease when driving and she tailored each lesson to me. She used pictures and explained everything in such detail so I could understand exactly what I needed to do and how to do it. With her great sense of humour and understanding of me, I really looked forward to every lesson - a huge difference to the nervous girl I had started out as! She suggested buying my own car to practise in which also improved my driving and gave me such confidence and motivation. Helen is an AMAZING instructor, I was quite nervous when I first started driving but she made me feel at ease instantly with her brilliant humour and clear instructions. Went out with Josh in his car to get his tax (£30 for the year!) Lovely jubbly! So he parked near Post Office and whilst waiting for me, some four wheel drive parked oh so close behind him, another car oh so close the other side! There's me thinking he would wait til one of them moved first incase he couldn't reverse that close being kinda boxed in! Blimey he just got out of there no flippin problem! I started with Helen having failed two practical tests already, one of which was part of an intensive driving course. I had no confidence in my driving and would either drive really slowly or take dangerous risks, all due to my massive fear of driving. I had a poor attitude and a poor awareness of others on the road and viewed the test as something ‘I just had to do to get out of the way’, feeling that I could learn the important bits afterwards. Scary considering I had been ...put forward for two tests already! Driving with Helen has been life-changing, like car therapy! Just being able to talk about the decisions I made and explain the thinking behind it, and being able to go back and repeat areas I had made a mistake on so that it didn’t eat away at me and add to the fears I already had. I’ve been on a massive learning curve with Helen, moving from hating roundabouts and being in a constant state of anxiety each time I was behind the wheel, to loving every minute of it…even her rambling! I’ve never felt more relaxed while driving and it’s all down to her. I think the biggest surprise for me was when I failed my third test, when it didn’t crush me as much as it had for my first and second tests had, it didn’t make me feel as though I was a terrible driver and should just give up…if anything it made me more determined to improve my driving and book the next test! That moment when I passed my fourth test….I can’t even explain it. I’m still in shock! I’m so excited to be on the road by myself, with my own car, taking complete control of wherever I want to go, something I never thought I’d achieve, even if I had passed the first or second time. Thank you so much for everything Helen, words cannot even describe how incredibly grateful I am for what you’ve done for me. After driving with my dad for a long time as a learner, I knew I wasn't far off taking my test. But I needed some good advice on some skills I hadn't gathered yet. I decided to contact helen from purple driving, and it was the best choice I could have made!! She was easy going, but knew everything I needed to work on and helped me achieve them. Things I was not clear on like mirrors and roundabouts, she made simple, to the point and very easily understandable. I only had a f...ew lessons with her, but she taught me so much and we had alot of fun in the process. She makes you feel comfortable as soon as you take a seat in her lovely baby giraffe covered seats! Without helen, I would have had no chance! With her I had great fun, learnt so much, made a new friend and passed with flying colour's! I would highly recommend helen to any learner driver looking for a teacher.
