I will structure my review under three headings: Pros, Cons and Summary.
Pros:
He is very knowledgeable, and he offers hints and tips that were very good in my opinion. He was very friendly and had a very good sense of humour. He attempts to understand the student and attempts to coach the student in a similar way a life coach would. He would give you genuine praise if you did well and would point out your mistakes plainly, which in my opinion is very important during learning. He is a very blunt and matter-of-fact person.
His car is brand new and has all the driving aids a learner driver would require to feel very comfortable; such as speed limiters, parking sensors, the ability to switch between automatic and manual gearbox, etc.
Cons:
Though he is very friendly, witty and with a sense of humour, he attempts to coach the student in a similar way a life coach would. Though this is usually a good thing, I only wanted a driving instructor and not a life coach. I had a total of 4hrs instruction under him but unfortunately had to discontinue due to work commitments and international travel. There were few occasions when he laughed at me for doing something wrong and on one occasion commented "..that's even worse!". He was very, very worried about driving close to the curb (but that is what learner drivers would do in my opinion) so I reckon his car is brand new. These things do not inspire confidence in the student.
Summary:
I would have carried on under his instruction were it not for my time and travel constraints.
I would recommend him cautiously. If you are a determined learner, are thick skinned and welcome criticism and remove all emotions from the activity, then go for it. For those who are more likely offended by blunt criticism (sometimes sprinkled with very light ridicule), then be more cautious.
I could sense he was very intelligent, good in conversation (though this is the last thing I want when driving), and his philosophies were interesting when applied to driving.
As mentioned earlier, I would have carried on under his instruction were it not for a hectic lifestyle. Read Less
