Brett is possibly the most short-tempered teacher I've ever had in my life. Out of every teacher who's ever taught me, whether it's driving or other fields, this man is certainly among my least favorite. While I do not deny that Brett may have been a pleasant person at one point during his teaching career, he is certainly starting to fall severely short on his temper. When on the road Brett displays the patience of a fly to both me and other road users. In one instance when I stopped the car over a crosswalk, trying to yield to a truck driver driving down the road apparently intending to turn right, Brett was constantly nagging me to complete the turn while being seemingly unaware of the truck. When the light turned red and I was still parked over the crosswalk, given that the truck was still turning right, Brett goes completely off the handle and started screaming “OH FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE” and started yelling at me like an Army Drill Sergeant on how I should’ve made the turn and how it would’ve caused me to fail the road test. Brett didn’t even bother telling me not to worry about the truck when he was constantly telling me to turn left, if he had done so I certainly would’ve made the turn without a second thought, but he didn’t. When I would tell him to stop yelling at me, he would continue yelling at me saying that I would’ve failed the road test, as if that helped the situation at all. Anytime when I would make any kind of error, whether it is driving too slow, or not turning properly, Brett would literally berate me to the top of his voice even when we weren’t in any danger, which we seldom were if ever. Whenever other road users would pass us by or steal our turns, Brett would flip them off and whisper insults under his breath. When I would try to express my concerns on his behaviour, he would just tell me to take another driving school, an option not available to me since I'm not made of money. While it was sometimes funny seeing him act like a man off his meds, it certainly made me feel extremely uncomfortable driving with him given the fact that he was like a ticking time bomb ready to go off at a moments notice. Seriously, this guy needs to see a therapist, BAD. When outside of lessons Brett tends to ignore my texts even though I’ve explicitly stated that they were class related and that I required a response. Now before Brett tries to pull the “You’re not my only student” card, please keep in mind that it only takes a minute to text a response to someone. I’ve had university professors who have probably taught more students in one semester than he does in an entire year, and even they were far more punctual than he was when giving a response. I suppose I should be grateful that he even answers the phone. If professionalism is what you look for in a teacher, I would NOT recommend taking this school. While I cannot say he acts like this to all his students, you should take my review as a warning if you should ever consider hiring him. Read Less

Edit in response to Brett's response: My frustration was with Brett's teaching and lack of professional conduct. The tester himself said that Luis's driving was otherwise perfect but he was obviously too upset and needed to calm down. The tester was actually nicer to my husband than Brett ever was. Luis was upset because of your behavior in the parking lot of the test (grabbing the wheel and yelling at him). If you think that is a good way to make sure your student is prepared for the test you are sorely mistaken. Prior to Luis taking his test I worried not of his driving skills but of how upset he would be after dealing with you and how this would affect his concentration while driving. This review would have happened regardless of the result of his test. You did indeed badmouth other schools right to my face and trying to claim otherwise is a lie. You also made no mention of what I needed to work on with Luis despite that being the main reason for me coming out there to talk to you. You focused on other schools and how they spend time on parallel parking because it costs them less money. I had come across many things that Luis had never been taught how to do at all and when you asked for an example I gave you parallel parking. I never expected you to spend hours on it, I only expected that he should have been shown how to at some point. The same goes for where is blind spots were and how to shoulder check properly and a few other things I had noticed. You focused only on my example like I thought it was the only important thing about driving. I have taught other people how to drive but as I have 20 years of driving experience, I also know that I have bad habits and am not 100% up on any rule changes. This is why I hired you!! You were supposed to teach him these things instead of just telling him to do things and then getting upset at him when he didn't do them correctly. I wanted him to learn from a professional and then practice with me, but instead I taught him most of the lessons on how to drive and he practiced and got bitched at by you. I hadn't started teaching him how to do things until after his last lesson because up until that point I had expected that you were doing it! But you really didn't like that I criticized your teaching methods and rather than acting like a professional and discussing it calmly you got upset and started comparing yourself to other driving schools. My goal was to be on the same page as to what he needed to learn, yours was to defend yourself at all costs and attack Luis and other schools. You obviously need a lesson in interpersonal skills. You also never mentioned anything about extra lessons or we may have actually taken you up on that because we had to postpone the test originally. But rather than making that suggestion you scheduled the last lesson for a few days before the test. I truly feel like your goal was to make sure Luis failed to teach us a lesson for questioning you or something. I drove with my husband many times before the test and although I am not by any means claiming that he is a perfect driver, I will say that I am an overly paranoid passenger. I actually get scared with other experienced people driving. He, however, has given me less cause to worry while driving than many of the other people I have been driving with. I can guarantee I have been driving with him more than you and never once have I taken the wheel from him and he never hit anything. Your racial comments happened throughout the entire duration of driving with my husband. He mentioned comments you made several times after coming back from driving with you. My husband also thanked you after the test because he does not like confrontations and he never said anything about someone else pointing out his bad habits. However, you also told him that in order to take the test that he had to take it with a vehicle that has a brake pedal on the passenger side, which is a blatant lie. As if there would be any way he would get into the car with you again. Read Less

Brett is an excellent driving instructor, I found his enthusiasm to be contagious. He was always very helpful and was very mindful of the comments he made. His teaching skills are well above my expectations (usually set higher than achievable), and his knowledge of driving and the laws and rules are exceptional. With only 7 lessons I passed my divers licence road exam on the first attempt. I would recommend Brett without any reservations to anyone that is learning how to drive. Tanya Read Less
